We needed a quick lunch and Olive Garden fit the bill. The service was fast and efficient, the table and facilities were clean, and as long as no one really expected Italian cuisine, the food was acceptable (and as always, the soup or salad first course was unlimited), so particularly given the prices (and their discount coupons) we'll be back when we need a meal in a hurry.
I was excited to try Olive Garden for the first time with my boyfriend. I have heard mixed things about what I should expect and wanted to see for myself. As an Italian, I love my culture and food. I know the reputation as "knockoff Italian food" that the Olive Garden holds – but I placed my judgment to the side for the night and was eager to try the brand new restaurant in Cross County.
It was a Friday night, around 7pm and the wait was insane. However, I was willing to wait because I wanted to try the food. I figured long line must mean they are doing something right and we decided to wait the 45 minute wait that was actually an hour and twenty minutes. By the time we were seated, its safe to say that we were starving. We received a menu, and it looked good. I really liked their options and variety. The breadsticks on the table were AMAZING. I could eat them everyday and not care about the amount of weight gain I would have. I mean those breadsticks are just about the only good thing about this place.
The soup I ordered was good. It was some type of cream dumpling soup and I enjoyed it a lot. My boyfriend also liked the soup he ordered. The appetizers and soup came out very quickly. We were happy so far. However, our waiter was incompetent. He kept forgetting our order and was taking very long. We waited two hours for our dinner and by this time we wanted to go home and actually had to take our food to go. I was enraged. The food here is horrible. It is all frozen! I am outraged that they can call this authentic Italian food. The service is awful , the food is downright NASTY to the point where we couldn't even eat it.
I will never eat at Olive Garden again – unless I want to die from food poisoning that is.
Expect a good thirty minute wait when arriving on a Saturday night. Who knew, Olive Garden?! Worth the wait in my opinion.
Once we were seated, we were greeted by our friendly server Chris. Chris offered us a complimentary tasting of different wines. He was prompt with bringing them out and the table actually ended up ordering two classes; one red one white to accompany dinner. All in all Chris was super knowledgeable of the menu and even helped us make some entree decisions.
I'm trying a vegetarian diet for a few weeks and am trying to cut back on items with gluten. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that there was a gluten free pasta choice on the menu and a veggie pasta sauce option. Thanks OG!! Even Chris picked up on my vegetarian ordering and politely asked about it. I thought that was thoughtful of him and meant that he was really paying attention. I knew he would give me the heads up if anything wasn't veggied. Being new to gluten pasta I was so excited that my dish tasted so good. Yum!
The rest of my table enjoyed their meals as well. The table ordered the Chicken scampi, chicken marsala and the glazed chicken. All of it looked and smelled yum. The table gave the food two thumbs us.
We were never rushed which is always a plus for me. Chris was attentive and a really good server. He made the experience pleasant where we would definitely go back without hesitation.
their prices and location are the only two reasons why i come back (the mall has lots to do with it)
Their food is decent, not bad but not real Italian in my book. They americanized a lot of the meals and i get it.
This past weekend ordered two soups the Chicken & Gnocchi and the Zuppa Toscana. The Zuppa was so salty that i had to pour water in it as i didn't want to send it back because when i walked in, 1 customer complained and left the restaurant and right after him another table walked up and left.
As always unlimited breadsticks are great.
also ordered the Cheese ravioli and Steak Gorgonzola-Alfredo which were just fine if it wasn't for the super yellow ravioli that looks nothing like on the website. Nevertheless it tasted very good.
I do have to emphasize that service has improved a lot, My server was excellent, on point and very courteous. too bad i forgot her name 🙁
