Recently ate at Sirio in Las Vegas earlier in the week, so I figured I might as well give Sirio in NYC a try this past weekend.
You cannot miss the entrance of this restaurant. There is a huge tent that hovers over the street right in front of the entrance. Trust me, you won't miss it.
I ordered the 3 course pre fixe for $40. You do not get a selection of your appetizer or entree, but they let you pick any dessert from their menu. They served a five tomato risotto as the appetizer. I enjoyed it very much. I typically stay away from risotto when I go out to eat, so I'm not sure if the risotto was undercooked, or that's how it's REALLY supposed to be cooked. For the entree, they served a roasted duck. The duck was cooked to perfection. I chose the creme brulee since I wanted to compare it to Le Cirque (same owner if you haven't realized). It was pretty much the same, so no surprises there. Petit fours were served complimentary with the desserts.
The service was very good. The Maitre D was friendly. He made the rounds around the tables to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. It was a very relaxing dinner, so no complaints.
I would probably come back here once again to possibly try their 5 course prefixe or order off the regular menu.
This review is for the bar at Sirio only.
My favorite quote of the afternoon here was one of my companions saying "hey it's New York, what do you expect?" I'll tell you what I expect — higher standards! No wait, any kind of decent standard at all! How about excellence! Especially in the Hotel Pierre. Here's what I didn't expect. Not only charging us for the potato chips (low-class, cheap) but the bartender opens up a bag of them in front of you and pours it into a white bowl. The charge was $3. HEY, WHY DONCHA charge us $9 and make 'em house-made? Good grief, I felt like I was in a cheap bar at the Holiday Inn!
The bar itself is narrow with low ceilings (We're talking REALLY low, 7 feet), again, not very luxe. "Hey it's New York, what do you expect?" Gee, I didn't know that real estate was so expensive in New York that a bar in a fancy hotel had to be this cramped.
There was an extension cord running the length of the carpeted narrow room with a vacuum cleaner attached to it. Now I could understand this at 11am or 2am at closing, but 5pm?? On a Friday???
The cocktail, a Manhattan, was made with a fancy vermouth with lots of aromatics in it, so that was nice but it was rather small. I of course had to order another. The booze did not kill the revulsion enough unfortunately…
Such a wonderful lunch break that doesn't empty your pockets. Great food! From the bread and bread sticks to service!
My carbonara's noodles are perfectly cooked al dente.
The trout has crisp skin and toasted almonds to die for.
Just a lovely Italian food treat!
Stopped in here by chance, for a quick glass of wine – really great ambiance, friendly staff and large bar area. I didn't realize but they are connected to the Pierre right next door. Definitely looking forward to checking this place our for Happy Hour drinks or dinner one night!
As with many reviewers I had the Chef's pasta pre fixe meal with the Groupon. Service was impeccable. The dishes were very pasta heavy and were really of mixed taste for me. I am not a huge risotto fan, so unfortunately the best dishes were served early on leading to a disappoinment in expectations as we went along until dessert which was good.
We were staying at The Pierre for the weekend and woke up to a cold rainy morning. Decided not to wander the streets for breakfast and popped into Sirio for a quick bite before heading to Penn Station for our trip home.
Should not have been surprised by the prices considering it was The Pierre but we were a bit surprised by the prices! Let's just say we were not going to order a $28 omelet!
So….$50 later we enjoyed a bowl of mixed berries, a bagel with cream cheese and salmon and 2 coffees!. Was it the BEST berries and bagels I ever had…hmmmmm…..couldn't say for sure. Certainly not worth $50.
I guess it was worth not having to walk the streets of New York in the cold rain.
I was very skeptical about this place after reading a yelp review but we decided to try it out since we had already booked the groupon deal. I think other reviewers are correct about the ambiance. I think it is a great place to have your 60th or 70th birthday party not your 21st birthday…if that makes any sense.
I might have gotten really lucky since it was a Friday night but our tasting menu was just amazing! We thought we were going to get 5 courses of meh pastas and two desserts but we got one amuse bouche 3 protein courses 2 pasta courses and two spectacular dessert courses! We started octopus (probably one of the best I have ever had), sweat bread course, and amazing chicken course with yummy artichoke puree. I am not a dessert person but the desserts were really amazing as well. I have paid twice as much to go a fancy restaurant for chefs tasting menu and were disappointed few times. This groupon deal was unexpectedly amazing!!!
