  1. Five stars for Minetta Tavern! I'm so glad it lived up to the hype because my friend told me he had the best burger of his life there, the black label burger. WHAT A BURGER! I was so impressed with how juicy and tender the burger was and the funny thing is that it came out really rare… and I actually ate it. Normally I eat things medium-medium well! Apparently, medium rare is the way to go with this burger and I am so glad I did. There were so many fries by the way, too many in fact, but they were thin and crispy. Anyway, I will be back next time I am in New York, especially because Louie C.K's old comedy club is there and apparently he tends to stop by once in a while!

  2. One of Greenwich Village's true Michelin star gems, it's well known for its "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern" style charm and awesome burgers.  Very unassuming from the outside, the dimly lit but intimate interior is bustling with life as a sizable waitstaff moves between the many tables.   The crowd tends to be very diverse and casual, ranging from locals to A-list celebrities to tourists.

While the old school charm and cozy atmosphere is a big part of the Minetta Tavern experience, the world class menu is what makes this place so memorable.  While the brunch and dinner menus share similar items, the dinner menu is where the magic happens (the Pasta Za-Za,  Roasted Bone Marrow, and Steak Frites are by far some of the most popular items on the menu).  Of course, the Black Label Burger (prime dry-aged beef with caramelized onions and pommes frites) is reviewed by many as being one the best burgers in New York.  The cocktail menu is also very diverse, with a great assortment of liquors, wines, and signature cocktails (the Rhubarb Sophie is a must try summer cocktail that goes with most of the menu).

The service is great and quickly makes you feel at home.  Being a michelin star establishment, getting a reservation is usually a must unless you don't mind quite a wait.  Of course, the Minetta Tavern experience doesn't come cheap, with most cocktails in the $17 range, and most of the popular entrees between $25-40 alone.

All in all, come hungry and expect to leave satisfied and in a severe (but incredible) food coma.

  3. Honestly this place was so close to a 5 star rating if only everything hadn't been so salty. Starting from the huitres et repinettes (oysters and pork sausage) to the black label burger, to the fries, so salty. The pork sausage was pretty okay though, that was fine. The rest, too much. The burger was so juicy and delicious and the fries were the PERFECT amount of crisp but having to stop eating every other bite to take a sip of water was no good. So close to perfection.

  4. Stopped in for a burger and a beer with the lady. Ordered the black label burger, obvi. Don't know if it was the BEST burger I've ever had but absolutely top 3! We didn't have a reservation but they sat us at the bar immediately. Bartenders were very attentive and took time to find us a wine we enjoyed. Ordered the mushrooms on the side. Fantastic. One beer, one glass of wine, one burger (shared) and a side of mushrooms. With tax/tip, $98. While this is not for the faint of heart, it is an upscale steakhouse in NYC. I will def be back!

  5. Extremely RUDE hostesses. Was not wanting to eat here after that but my friend wanted to eat their infamous black label burger. You would imagine such a fine establish would have hired better people ( I mean, you guys are hostesses and your job qualifications should include nice). But anyways, friend and I decide to ignore the snob personality all for the sake of the black label burger. Meh.

Coming from Texas, we take pride in a few things- Barbeque, Burgers, Babes, and baby back ribs! Among other sports. So you can already imagine that I've tasted some pretty awesome burgers even though I'm no burger lover.

Anyways, fast forward getting seated and having our food- I tasted the burger and it was good. (My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, Hun!)The buns were super fluffy! It was airy and had a pleasant egg taste and lightly sweet. The meat patty definitely had a distinct taste of caramelize onions and the ground beef used gave the meat patty a good, dark and rich texture.
Although the burger tasted good, I've tasted better (& there will always be others better than others it seems).
The fries were my only favorite thing on the dish- soft but crispy on the outside.
I don't think I will return the next time I'm in New York. But hey, they wouldn't want me anyways .

  6. I took my friend here for her birthday dinner on a Thursday evening. I made reservations one month prior.

The atmosphere was lovely! Old school NY for sure. The place is small so you feel pretty crammed in there, but not in a negative way.

We both ordered a glass of wine that costs as much as a bottle. Then we went straight to ordering the Black Label Burger. Now I went in knowing the cost and honestly I don't mind spending $$$ on good food, but there is noway anyone can tell me that $32 for this burger was worth it. I really expected something unique and amazing. I consider myself a burger connoisseur of sorts and I can't justify the cost for this one. The burger itself was juicy and came out the way I ordered it which was great, but didn't blow me away by any means. The caramelized onions were a nice touch, but no cheese and only came with a dinky piece of lettuce and tomato. The french fries were pretty good though.

The only reason someone should go out of their way to try the burger is just to say they've tried it because it wasn't anything special.

    The service was impeccable.

  7. Minetta has been on my list for a while now – their Black Label Burger is pretty famous. Finally, my coworker and I decided to go on a summer Friday. He's been numerous times before but this was my first. He insisted I order the BL burger and he would get one too in solidarity with me.

We both ordered ours medium rare and I think mine was a bit closer – perfect for my first time! The burger was tender and juicy – we got it without the cheese. I didn't taste the BL, but it was still a pretty damn good burger. I'd definitely be up for trying it again.

I can't wait to return to try the other delicious items on the menu!

  8. While I so desperately wanted to love Minetta Tavern, I left wondering what all the previous reviewers saw in the place. I mean this place has RAVE reviews, so I was expecting a guaranteed amazing experience. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike the place, but damn…can you say over-rated??

First of all, they need a credit card to hold a reservation…ok, fine. But again, at least live up to the hype. The atmosphere was great and service was wonderful…but I just felt something was missing. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I thought Yelp rarely disappoints. .

Ridiculous prices for a martini!! $18. My mom ordered the filet and hated it. Sodium overload. I ordered the pasta dish and did really like it.

All in all, not a poor experience, I just expected way more…especially for the $$$.
