Don Pedro
“The food improved substantially, and on Saturday afternoons there's happy hour.”
“In the last few weeks I have seen queer feminist punk rock bands, a Synthpop/goth band, and a burlesque/BDSM show.”
“They do book some good shows that are more on the experimental and noise/punk side(which I enjoy).”

Great neighborhood bar. Low key, cheap drinks. No pretentiousness.
Good place to pre game or drunkenly stumble in for one last pop on the way home.
My bf tells me the pork sliders are awesome and that who ever is the cook is really proud and excited about them (and personally brings them out with a smile). 🙂
*Updating to 5 stars for Bingo on Monday nights and actually trying the food which was yummmy
This bar was fine, nothing too special, nothing wrong. Came in to see a band play and hung around for a few beers. Bathrooms were clean and the drinks were well-priced. They do have skee-ball and a photobooth, so that's dope. I think on a night without shows this would be a great dive to come hang with pals.
Dark and Smoky
First off, the general vibe of this place is "laid-back, hole-in-the-wall, off-the-beaten-path, hipster bar". Meet a date here for a non-pretentious* start to your evening, maybe catch a local band while you're at it.
(*if your date likes slick Manhattan nightlife with pulsing techno, a Gucci dress code & $15 cocktails, this is NOT the spot for you).
I wouldn't go so far as to classify Don Pedro's as a restaurant, per se. It does have a bar-style menu of some pretty good burgers, pulled pork sliders, wings, and of course, the aforementioned tasty niblets. * When the kitchen is open.
Tip:
– A great, late happy hour that gives you a buck off all the already reasonably-priced drinks, til 9 PM!!!
– An array of local and some touring bands that any true live music aficionado would appreciate, who play on a stage about 3' high, so there's a very intimate feel about the shows here.
Cool Spot!
Thanks
Hipster dive bar with all the requisite characteristics — $5 beer and shot special, upbeat cute punk bartender, punks, skeeball, drag queens, cheap mix drinks, eatable not exceptional Mexican food, a Colt 45 bar light and Chrismas lights all year long. It is exactly what you expect it to be and if that is what you are looking for you will be head over heels in love. It's pretty cute, especially if you are under 25 or really committed to living the punk/hipster kid lyfe!
My friend's played here so I came out for the set. Total dive. $5 cover and $3 PBRs. No complaints but I probably wouldn't eat here or go back unless I had a special reason to go.
This Saturday Don Pedro was a punk bar in every way. Except maybe the after happy hour drinker prices, cheap beers are $4, only $2 during happy hour.
Anasazi is the headliner. The lead singer born in the wrong era, he should have been around during Alien Sex Fiend, Virgin Prunes and a little Bauhaus. (Super theatrical goth punks from the eighties) And there were long, teased big haired punks at the concert to boot. It almost felt like the movie "Lost Boys".
The place was crawling with punks as each band played, more punks would arrive. The bartender, Randy and the door guy didn't seem to thrilled with the idea of loud, dirty, degenerates taking over but we're still professional about the fact.
There's food here but sometimes dives don't really stir up my appetite so I can't review any of the grub. I'm sure it's pretty alright pub grub.
There's only two bathrooms. Which is tough when there's 3-5 punks in at a time doing "who knows what". I think we know. But some people have gotta pee and don't have time for their cliche lifestyle.
The guy who books the bands organizes a lot of shows and that's a great sign because the bands are almost all going to be good, hand picked punk bands. So get to the bar early to check out the openers. Plastic from Chicago was one of the openers and they were so fun. And Vivid Sekt was the third opener and they killed it. A 2/3 girl band, one being Alex, a member from Arctic Flowers. Sadist from Boston was second to last and they destroyed it. Literally, I think an amp just fell off the stage. It was strobe light INSANITY!!! The lead singer wore a mask over his super spiky mohawk. And then came the gothic black cherry on top, local band Anasazi! Back from the dead and thrashing all over the pit and stage. A completely incredible fun show but definitely a late night for this home body.
I also met some very interesting people, a bow tie wearing kid lawyer, my cookie guy, a young lady dressed in a tan trench coat looking like she's hunting aliens but really she was hunting smooches, a couple of my bartenders and other hilarious bathroom line attendees. Oh NY, you're full of surprises.
I've been to this bar during happy hour on a Wednesday and it's chill. Just regulars and bartender. Very relaxed.
I've been here during a lesbian rock fest and a hip hop line up dance party. By far the punk show is more my cup of tea but this place serves up as a venue to events all over the map.
Bring cash. Maybe a stash of tp. And don't forget your inside voice while outside. I don't have an inside voice so that's very difficult for me. There's also a church next door that seems to be rocking out. According to the door guy, better tunes at the church than Don Pedro. Ha!
Good space, not that packed on Friday nights, but they have a good selection of nighttime entertainment. Pretty conveniently located to the J & Z trains. Gotsta try out their food next time because everyone seemed to be ordering something and it all smelled delish as they brought it out.
The other night I went to a show at The Spectrum, and leave it to me, I met the one straight dude there, who was having a midlife crisis and also happened to live around the corner from me and drove. So, we went to Don Pedro and talked about his life and I convinced him to give me a lift.
(I wasn't drunk, but it was raining, and the late night train takes forever.)
We sat close to the door to hear each other better, since there was a band loudly playing Devo covers in the next room. A guy further down the bar just walked up to me and asked me for my phone number. He was like, "I've gotta go, but can I call you some other night?" I thought that was hilarious. For all he knew I could have been on a date.
So, I gave him my number 🙂 I'm glad I did, because the next day, I couldn't remember where I locked my bicycle.
I texted him, "What was that bar where I met you?" It was hot out when I went back to Bushwick and wandered around. Another guy was smoking a cigarette, and I asked him where the dive bar with skee ball and a stage was, and he said, "Oh, you mean Don Pedro?"
YES I DO.
Then I got on my bike and rode home. The guy from the bar texted me back. "Don Pedro." Thank you!
