I love a good BYOB place in Manhattan (tip: there's a wine shop across the street). ABA is the type of restaurant where everyone settles in to chat for hours. It's great people watching, and I haven't even described the food yet… Most importantly: ABA has red lentil patties just like used to be found at Astoria's now-closed Mundo (the Red Sonja). Oh man, squeeze the lemon on top of the patties and enjoy heaven! Unfortunately ABA doesn't serve this dish on a full lettuce leaf, so there's no way to scoop them up without a fork and knife. The vegetarian stew and soup options are also fantastic, and I'm definitely coming back to try their very reasonably priced desserts.
I came here with some girlfriends for dinner on a Friday evening. They are BYOB, which is always fun.
Vegetarian options are extremely limited, so don't come here if you're not planning on eating meat. I ended up mixing a few appetizers/sides and was very disappointed. Another thing to note, the restaurant was freezing. It ruined the experience for me, my legs and feet were going numb. Granted we were by the door and it was really cold out that day, but I don't feel like it would have made much of a difference being a little further back.
I will say that the service was very good. Everyone was friendly and they let us hang around for a while after we finished our food to continue drinking our wine.
AMAZING Turkish restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. They are BYOB, their food is delicious, and their staff is very friendly.
We came on a Saturday around 6:45, and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 2, so I would recommend calling ahead. They did become less crowded around 7:45 as the 8:00 theater crowd finished their meals.
First of all, their complimentary bread is amazing. You can easily fill up on it if you're not careful! We ordered the Falafel appetizer ($8.95), Lamb Adana Kebab ($18.95) and the Chicken Adana Kebab ($17.95). All were delicious and flavorful.
Would totally recommend Aba if you're in the area!
This could almost be a 4-star, it's that good on food front. It's an affordable and tasty destination in an area that has few of those choices. Hummus is really good. Enjoyed the wonderful salad and had a chicken shishkebab lunch special. Delicious. Try not to fill up on the pita which is so good. For food that tastes this good, you'd expect to pay a lot more, especially in this area. Service was OK. Two folks sat with well-behaved dogs at tables near us outdoors. This place is a keeper and I'll definitely be back.
Great food. Had the gyro plate with grilled veggies and lentil soup. Everything was tasty and fresh… And the bread… Oh my!
ABA Turkish Restaurant is a pretty solid Turkish, middle eastern restaurant. I came here the night before with my buddy and his girlfriend and decided on a few appetizers and entrees.
Everything we had was pretty good – the bread was very tasty with a little oil, pepper and salt was all you needed. Super soft and was delicious!
The only thing that was lacking was the falafel – it was a bit bland, but the texture was there. Not mushy, but not dry – it was perfectly cooked – only…somewhat bland. But with that – the doner platter was a huge portion and totally delicious. The flavors mixed amazingly with a little of the bread you have a fantastic meal.

This Turkish restaurant is bustling with locals, so it's definitely got the stamp of authenticity.
We tried the cold appetizer sample, which was a great assortment. Favorites were the eggplant and the tomato and vegetable mixture. Interestingly, they were served with crusty bread rather than the traditional puffy Lavaş Turkish bread.
The hot appetizers we tried included falafel, which was crispier and a different shape that we were used to, and some excellent zucchini pancakes.
We also shared one entree that was an assortment of all the meats, and thought each was very well prepared. The lamb chop was my favorite, as it had a nice char.
Service was friendly and efficient, especially considering the restaurant was completely full.
Summary: My favorite of three Turkish places in the area. Casual, authentic Turkish food that is well made. Great lunch deal.
Atmosphere: Lively during dinner. You will get a lot of locals and also random tourists that are looking for a bite. For lunch, it's a nice quite spot, as it doesn't quite get the lunch crowd.
Service: They are Turkish, so professional and not overly warm, but on point.
Food: I have tried nearly everything here and can truly say you can't order anything bad. My two favorites, though are the meatballs kofke and Sheppards salad. The eggplant and humid apps are also worth a try.
Other: They do have a catering menu that is affordable for parties. Also, portions are a good size for NYC. Sharing is a real possibility.
