AK Cafe

“Only been here for breakfast/brunch so I can't comment on the dinner portion.”

“We always order the ak premium plate along with a sojouk sandwich and their ak salad which has the best vinagarette dressing.”

“I've tried some other items such as their Ezo Gelin Soup and Kumpir (you definitely have to try this out – stuffed baked potato, Turkish style!)”

  1. We ordered two AK Mixed Grill platters to go this past weekend. As I was placing my order over the phone, I quickly realized the waitress felt it was a chore answering my questions, I wanted to know what would be included in the platter, I asked if rice would be included in the order, I guess the waitress didn't understand me but she made it clear in the manner in which she spoke she didn't want to answer anything. She didn't know what pita bread was, or she just couldn't understand English but it was a bit annoying repeating myself.

I brushed it off because I was hungry and I enjoy AK when I sit down in the restaurant. Better than Toros on Hazel IMO. But unfortunately I've noticed that over the years the quality of the food and service has declined. No matter, this order was preempted by reminiscing the glory days, nothing would stand in my way.

Food took forever to come but understandable it's a mixed grill. We barely got any couscous and NO RICE. Sufficed to say the reaction to no rice wasn't pretty ugly. AK Cafe needs to step their game up, I can name SO many other Turkish spots with better food and excellent service: Toros on Main, Huzur on Main(not much on service but the food to pricing ratio is amazeballs), OZ on Main (which is probably the best Turkish food you will find in Paterson but ridic expensive), Cinar in Pal Park(best Manti you will find in a restaurant).

I miss the good old days of AK Cafe, when the food was great and they didn't skimp you on the rice and the service was impeccable. I hope the owners read this and bring about some serious changes. I love coming to this restaurant to break my fast during the month of Ramadan, their Iftaar spread is fantastic and never fails to satisfy me. I hate to see this happen to AK.

  2. Just paying another visit to one of my favorite breakfast spots with my sister (who I call my fellow foodie family member).

Granted AK Cafe is a bit of a trek from where I live (about a 40-50 minute drive), but I was off from work today and it was a beautiful day for a drive.

Ordered the familiar AK Cafe premium breakfast and a pair of simit breads and both equaled the quality of my previous experiences – neither did not disappoint.

Decided to try something new so we ordered the veggie omelet (tough decision not to order the omelet with the turkish pastrami, especially for a carnivore like me!), and it was very very good.

The omelet had a nice golden color and (for me) had that nice slight tinge of char without being overcooked on the inside.  It was a very light dish and I recommend it for those who are looking for a light meal.
