  1. Possibly my new favorite Thai restaurant ever. I would honestly put this place above Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas, which is supposedly the "number one Thai restaurant in the country". I have been to both places multiple times and here's why Amarin comes out on top…

First of all, Thai restaurants are not meant to be upscale or fancy. Amarin has a casual, relaxed vibe that properly fits the culture and cuisine. It's BYOB, which makes it very affordable to bring a bottle of wine or whatever choice of beverage to enjoy with your meal.

Second, the staff is very accommodating. Many Asian restaurants tend to be uptight and difficult to get what you want. Somehow it's always $1-2 extra for the simplest things and getting a refill on water is next to impossible. The staff at Amarin has always been friendly, polite, and willing to work with you on dining preferences. Delivery has always been on point.

Third, pricing is VERY reasonable. Portions are decent (not huge, but won't leave you hungry).

Most importantly, their FOOD. Oh my goodness, their pad kee mow is some of the best I've had. The only thing I would change is how much the noodles are all badly stuck together, which makes it seem like I'm eating one giant noodle rather than many noodles. They need to break their noodles apart better. With that being said, the flavor is GREAT and because of my abnormal addiction to ridiculously high levels of spice, I get mine "Thai spicy" level 6 on a scale from 1-5. They never disappoint on the spicy front and although they warn me every single time that I won't be able to handle it (and I get irritated because they literally tell me EVERY time)…they still deliver the insane amount of spice I look forward to. THANK YOU FOR ACTUALLY MAKING MY FOOD DELICIOUSLY DEADLY.

Must haves: the hot & sour soup with shrimp, spring rolls, papaya salad, and of course the amazing PAD KEE MOW.

  2. This is the spot for Thai food in Greenpoint as far as I'm concerned and I'm still always surprised by the number of people who live here but don't know about this gem. There's something kind of magic about that, the main reason being because they aren't on Seamless and it's cash-only. Pick up the phone, go to the ATM, Amarin is worth it.

My favorite dish I affectionately call stinky chicken, it's the chicken breast and mashed potatoes with mustard sauce and veggies. I know, who orders chicken and mashed potatoes at a Thai place? Me, that's who and you should probably too.

If you like your Pad Thai extra spicy, Amarin has got you.

  3. My boyfriend and I love their food. We've been here several times and never been disappointed. Today I ordered the spicy shrimp pad Thai and it was perfect. Just the right amount of spiciness. Their calamari is always fresh and their Thai cold coffee is delicious. Best Thai food in Greenpoint.

  4. I was greeted…oh wait, I was never greeted. The hostess left the counter and proceeded to clear two tables before taking my order. I found this to be rude especially since there were no waiting customers except me waiting to place my order. I was hungry and therefore endured the wait before ordering my panang curry which was good and spicy the way I like it and that was MILD versus their version of hot.

  5. One of the better Thai restaurants in this neighborhood. Service is quick and friendly, and the staff is pretty consistent about asking the level of spiciness you'd like your food.

I'm a sucker for shrimp pad thai and pad see ew. Amarin offers good takes on both, for extremely affordable prices (I think that almost everything on the menu is under $10) and with fast service. If you're looking for Thai in Greenpoint, this should be your first stop.

  6. I've never had a meat dish here. I find really good vegetables are hard to come by in NYC. The veggies here are so good, the idea of having anything else is just blasphemous.

  7. Solid 4 stars for this BYOB Thai place. Keep in mind, it's cash only!

The staff makes delicious food and it's pretty fast. I gave this 4 stars because it's a hole in the wall and could be spruced up a bit and I think the portions of the curry were a bit small. If you need a group spot on any night though, it's a good place to go to. Just call ahead of time and they'll likely accommodate you and come with some booze.

Between 3 of us, we got the papaya salad (yum!), drunken noodles with beef, green chicken curry, and basil chicken. Everything was great and had tons of flavor and was perfect for what we were looking for. For those for dishes including tip/tax, our total came out to $40. Great deal for all that food.

Glad I know of this place now, I'll def be back.

  8. Stopped by here for lunch. Tried their vegetable pad thai and iced coffee. The dish was tasty and in good portion. Waitress was friendly and knowledgable. Bathroom and restaurant appeared to be clean. Nothin to complain abt! Will definitely keep this spot in mind if i'm ever around the area cravin for thai food 🙂
