  1. Discovered Amoun by complete accident while walking up 73rd Street.  This place is brand new and they were in the midst of a "soft opening" with a very limited menu.

We were welcomed in with big smiles and shown to our table.  The decor is causally intimate with a nice Mediterranean vibe.  We felt extremely comfortable inside.

They have a nice bar selection.  I had a glass of Pinot Noir while she had a glass of Chardonnay.

For food we started with an order of the grape leaves and an order of the hummus.  Both were perfect and exceeded expectations.

For our entrees we ordered the kofta kebab and Kibbeh bil Sanlyeh (spiced meat with pine nuts). Both were excellent.

So everything was wonderful and intimate until the clock struck 8 pm.  Then, out of nowhere a belly dancer emerged from the shadows and started shimmying about the place to the accompanying belly dancer music.  At one point she had a lit chandelier on her head.  It was something to see!!!

Well, my first experience at Amoun is definitely one I will long remember!   I wish them a lot of success once they have their grand opening.  I think with the kind of spirit and good food that we witnessed tonight, they have a very bright future ahead of them.  We will most definitely be back!

  2. 2.5 stars.. this review is for the food and service. we ordered 2 appetizers and an entree to share between 3 people. I'm not sure why it took 45 minutes to bring out two small appetizers (sampler spread and eggplant w roasted pepper spread) when there were only two parties inside the restaurant ordering food. My group and a family of 10-12! We had to ask the waiters twice about our appetizers.
the apps were okay. There were 4-5 dips to try but not enough pita bread to go around. Luckily, they were generous enough to refill the pita bread basket twice.
For our entree we wanted to order the squash dish the manager/owner had highly recommended. After placing the order we were later informed that it was sold out for the day. why  bother recommending a dish that's not available to your customers?
So we opted for the kofta kebab instead. It came with 3 lamb sausages with a side of rice and 'salad'..  (a slice of tomato, three pieces of grilled onions, and one slice of roasted pepper). Not too crazy about the salad portion.the lamb kebab was juicy and cooked well. Thankfully that dish took about 20-30mins to come out..

The staff is very sweet but the food and service was quite disappointing. Not sure if I want to come back to try their hookah.

  3. Great sangria and pita but relatively mediocre food otherwise.

The hummus is flavorless. The tahini is just okay. The tomato, cucumber & feta salad did not seem fresh or high quality and wasn't nearly as good as one that I can whip together in 3 minutes.

The lamb chunks and rice were good, cooked nicely to a medium rare but each piece of lamb was quite different in how tender it was. It seemed surprisingly inconsistent for one entree.

For a happy hour, prices should be better.

Very friendly and attentive service, and again, solid sangria, so three stars.

  4. Cozy somewhat casual romantic atmosphere – very dimly lit lounge area with interesting decorations and details throughout.

I found this restaurant on Yelp and wanted to try.

Service was extremely attentive. The waitress was helpful recommending a drink based on my preferences. I had the Meditteranean nights cocktail and it was absolutely delic !

Only negative for me was the  faux plants; faux flowers or plants – big dislike for me…

My friend tried the hookah and thought it was great.

We were here for an after dinner cocktail so didn't have any of the Hummus – def want to return to try their food.

Recommend for a date or a place to have a chill lounge with great ambiance and hooka..

  5. Coming here is like being transported to (what I imagine) a cool upscale lounge in the Middle East. Nice addition to the UES.

I came here with a friend one night for the hookah. The waiter suggested that we let him choose a personalized hookah concoction of his. We didn't regret it because he made us a great flavor with blueberry, peach, and mint. It was truly excellent.

We had beers and an order of calamari (which was only ok). Luckily, the hookah made up for it.

We will definitely be back for the hookah and great service!

  6. Gorgeous, Arabic setting that felt like we were in Aladdin, with superb cushions, hookah and candlelight used brilliantly as decor.

We checked-in and each received a complimentary glass of wine. We ordered a hookah and they have a great selection of fruity flavors and more intense ones with vodka and Red Bull. They were consistent in setting it up and changing the coals.

The food was good, but not our favorite Mediterranean dishes. I wish they seasoned the rice more with lemon since it was a little bland. The seafood could have been seasoned better as well. The fish in my entree was not flavorful either.

The presentation of the food was beautiful, but unfortunately, the flavors did not match. It is like meeting someone pretty with an unattractive personality. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes that night. If anyone has recommendations, let me know!

Otherwise, the service was very attentive and excellent, along with the drinks, hookah and overall decorative and lovely atmosphere!

  7. It's pretty nice here! The front is a restaurant and the back is more of a lounge. I came for hookah and tea and it was basically empty on a Wednesday night. We got very good service. The hookah was decent but a bit weaker than some of the other places I've been. One hookah ran out fairly quickly.

Make sure to get your hookah in the pineapple head. My favorite flavor is usually watermelon.

As for the tea, the Egyptian tea using green tea is really good.
