There is a plethora of tea drinks you can order from here and great options for small snacks. If you're into tea or looking for a tea cafe, this is the place to try out!
Teas and coffees are good here and the harried staff somehow keep it together. I don't come here enough, but when I do the experience is a good one. The students however need to be a lot more sensible as there are always a small few who act silly or messy for no good reason.
I went to this place for the first time and was a little overwhelmed by the menu. They definitely have very unique tea concoctions here! But the barista was so nice and answered my questions and even let me sample my drink before I ordered it. I was torn between the Sangria Tea and the Tea Sparkle…I went with the Tea Sparkle and found it quite refreshing. The orders come out pretty quickly so it's a great place to pop in and get a yummy beverage.
There were a bunch of NYU students in this one (it's on their campus) but the barista was still welcoming (although she may have just thought we were students). I'd be interested in trying some other locations and definitely trying some of their other flavors/drink types. They have a lot to choose from and they all sound really cool!
I come here for their chai latte. $4.08 for a small. It's OK. It's not great. It's not horrible. I find it comparable to Starbuck's chai latte- which I think is Tazo's concentrate.
Do NOT get Argo's loose leaf teas. They don't taste as good as the teas they brew on premises. Once I got their masala chai blend hoping to replicate the same taste at home and I ended up having to separate the spices from the leaves in order to get it tasting as spicy as a good masala chai should.
As a stocking stuffer I got a friend a Stainless Steel Tea cup strainer from here ($8.95) and was glad to see that a year later it was holding up. I even used it and I liked that the strainer basket was deep and narrow. The narrowness allows it to be used on cups of varying apertures. The depth makes it handy to rinse, say, a handful of blueberries.
Never ever EVER get bubble tea at Argo. It's a farce of what bubble tea is supposed to be. They are not bubbles but little squares of jelly that I can't imagine anyone would enjoy. Lame.
I've also had the hibiscus tea, the teapuccino, and the smootea and these drinks are just okay. I guess Argo-style beverages just aren't my thang.
But alas, this review isn't a review of Argo Co. but of this location, and this location is A-OK in my book. It opened during the second semester of my senior year at NYU so I didn't get to experience it very much, but I liked the atmosphere. Decent amount of seating, helpful employees, and that bubbling student vibe. That being said, if you're not a student, you may hate the atmosphere.
Mango black tea with jellies omnomnom! I love Argo tea and this location is a nice place to stop by between classes to lounge about, especially when you don't have the time to go too far. The lines are fast moving, and the tea is always good.
I wanna try the carolina honey now. Yummm~
While their pastries are pretty delicious (I love their croissants and their yogurt parfaits are good), their drinks aren't the best. I'm not one who likes fancy tea combinations and so I always get a regular tea, no fancy additions. However, for claiming to be a tea cafe, their teas are horribly oversteeped making them bitter and unpalatable. No amount of sugar or honey can cover that. I think as a tea place, that's a terrible and rookie mistake. I've tried their coffee as well, but it's too acidic. I always end up with a terrible stomache.
You're better off going to Think or Oren's.
Not your normal Argo Tea, as its more of a NYU campus cafe rather than an actual cafe. So set your expectations accordingly, please!
The service is super friendly, even at the time of closing (i believe 6:30ish?) As this is an NYU building, you won't be able to use the toilets unless you're an NYU student, as the toilets are located behind the security desk.
The tables aren't as clean as i'd like them to be, but again, considering it's an NYU cafe, theyre a bit understaffed.
As a current NYU student, yeah, I go there. But without the benefits and amenities NYU adds (wifi, toilets, extra seating behind security and so forth) as a student, I will not return. Post graduation = no more Greene St Argo Tea.
