  1. This is a very cute brunch spot. I love the ambiance and the French bistro decor. Our party had already arrived and ordered (Long Island traffic around the holidays…fughettaboudit). Thankfully, we had peeped the menu before hand so we knew what we wanted. And more thankfully, our table had ordered the cheese board for sharing that tided us over nicely.

My cappuccino ($4) came out very quickly, with lots of foam just the way I like it. And so did the omelets that the boy and I ordered. For me, the omelet (with  Swiss and spinach) was heavy so I couldn't finish it. But alas, boys are good for finishing up your food! I ate the potatoes that come with it, and some of the salad. For $12.50, a good deal in a trendy area of Brooklyn – but what part of Brooklyn isn't trendy, anyway?

There was a decent size group of us and it was my friends' birthday, and after we ate we opened up presents and they didn't try to push us out the door, they let us enjoy ourselves which was appreciates. And waiters with (French) accents, always a plus in my book. I would definitely come back.

  2. There's a lot to like about Bar Tabac. There's a cool zest to the atmosphere flaunting a colorful and funky, French Bistro flair that's neither stuffy or extravagant, but, it's somewhat, rustic and a little intimate in a not-so-typical sense of the word.

Bar Tabac is rough around the edges in a very nice sort of way; with French chachkies and memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Service was very personal and we chit chatted with Jonas, who was very welcoming, attentive and made sure our dining experience would be great…

**Heads up people, a few housekeeping topics to get out in the open:
    1. Unisex restroom and unkept
    2. Only AMEX accepted

But what overcomes that.. is the great taste in food and drinks. Food at Bar Tabac is freshly prepared giving you rich flavors. My Seafood Risotto had delicate chunks of crab meat and topped with shrimp and scallops . My husband's hanger steak was nearly cooked to perfection dressed in a delicious wine jus. And who would've thunk it? Though I don't eat red meat, steak was nicely paired with a mushroom risotto- which, I almost ate half. Mmmmmm. (I'd definitely return for the Mushroom Risotto as my entree).

We would definitely come back again. Our only regret, is that we did not order an appetizer or a dessert…but will definitely do that the next time.

  3. Bar Tabac is always a lively place. If there's live music, head inside. If not, then have a seat on the sidewalk cafe. If you're on Dean and ignore Smith street, it feels very European.

However, their beer selection is pretty limited (and not great), and it's cash only.

Come here for the vibes or the wine.

  4. Really cute French place in Brooklyn. I got the couscous and it was on point. Definitely a spot to try, if in the area.

  5. Bar Tabac is warm, cozy, has great bistro-esque-ness and the service is wonderful.

On weeknights, they're full, but it's easy to get a table. Some nights they even have live music in the front of the restaurant (but you can sit in the back if you want a more quiet meal).

Plenty of seats, and limited outdoor seating when the weather allows.

A good option for dinner as well as brunch.

To give you a sense of pricing: Mussels with fries are $18; a glass of wine is $9.

The food is good (but not amazing) — but both the wine and the service are great.

  6. Had a lovely night at Bar Tabac. Inside, this restaurant is a charming French bistro. They also have outdoor sidewalk seating so a friend and I perched ourselves out there on a warm evening, sipping on perfect aperol spritzes.

The waiters won't serve you unless you let them know you're ready so make sure to flag someone down! For dinner, the mussels were outstanding in the classic white wine sauce. Fries were tasty but a tiny bit soggy, served with ketchup and mayonnaise. My friend ordered the steak and unfortunately it was completely overcooked! Make sure to specify, I guess, that you want it medium RARE if you want some of the meat to still be pink, because that was disappointing. Otherwise, a perfect night. I'll be back for more mussels!

  7. Came here for the Euro Cup Final match during the Bastille weekend, awesome atmosphere and service, absolutely love it.

I came here with a group of friends to watch the match and stayed over for dinner. The ambiance was everything you'd expect if not better, although it was packed, the service was still excellent.

Food here was pretty good, everything that you'd expect from a french bistro. The tuna salad and burger were excellent.

  8. A sexy spot in cobble hill for late night bites and a drinks. Can get really packed and loud but still a nice time! Cocktails are strong and to the point.
