“Get the Una-Tama Don; you'll regret it if you don't. Other favorites include the Katsu curry and Garlic beef steak.”

“My favorite was the Tuna Tataki and garlic beef steak, but everything else is delicious too.”

“"Tama", as in egg, as in the barely-cooked specimens coddling the long chunks of eel.”

  1. Wonderful intime atmosphere and super clean place!
Service is good and we were seated very quick.
We were a party of 4 and had starters to share and rice bowls.
    Carpaccio salmon: fresh and flavourful.
Shrimp tempura: two shrimps, a piece of butternut squash and a piece of squash. Correct but pricey in my opinion
    Rice bowls:
    Katsu don
    Yakiniku don
    Una-tama don
All three bowls were so good and tasty.
We will definitely go back for another bowl!

  2. Food here is pretty good. Not a whole lot of options, but scallop sashimi was really fresh. They pair it with an herb or a lemon and it really brings the flavor of the scallop out. Also ordered the oyako don, which was really good. The sauce was very flavorful and tasty. Everything melded with each other nicely.

  3. The tables were filled but it wasn't loud and noisy and it didn't feel too crowded on a Saturday night. We ordered 300ml of sake to go with our food from the filtered list. Service was attentive.

    Here's what we ordered:
    – Fried soft shell crab – I love soft shell crab so I couldn't resist ordering it here. It came with a ponzu dipping sauce, which added the salt and citrus to the lightly fried crab.

    – Raw scallops – Three to a plate. Two sandwiched a shiso leaf and one a lemon slice. The scallops were large and fresh, mildly sweet as scallops should be. They came with two dipping sauces, both of which added the light salt factor.

    – Eel don – I smelled this when I walked in because it had just gotten to someone's table and I immediately made sure we ordered this. The rice was flavorful, dotted with scallions and shitake mushrooms and draped over by a just cooked enough omelette. The portion was good and definitely gave you a bit more substance while drinking sake.

    – Tuna – Very fresh. The sear was just enough to give it a crust but also very thin all around. The sauce was also a good accompaniment.

  4. Fantastic date spot!! We were one of five couples, out of the six parties there, and it's quiet, trendy and light ambience was great. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We started with edamame (steamed with salt, didn't do the olive oil thing), the samni vegetables (so yummy) and the miso chicken (holy cow!) then we both got the arugula salad with tofu and seaweed with a lemon soy vinaigrette (delishhhh). Then Steven got the beef tataki and I got the salmon carpaccio. He loved the beef tataki, but the salmon carpaccio was a little off.

The whole experience was absolutely fantastic, minus the fishy salmon, we'll definitely be coming back!!

  5. Went here for date night and I absolutely love the ambience, it is very romantic and intimate. We ordered the gobo sticks and edamame peperoncino as our appetizers. The gobo sticks were delicious very crisp but not at all oily with a very unique flavor. The edamame was amazing, I've never had edamame that was so packed full of flavor before! It was spicy and savory. Definitely get the edamame if youre coming here! For our main course we got the chicken katsu curry and the yakiniku donburi. The chicken was very crispy but not at all oily or dry. The sauce was rich and savory. The yakiniku was very tender and sliced very thinly and packed full of flavor from their marinade which was sweet. The shredded pickled radish on top added another level of flavor and texture to the dish as well. I would love to come back here to try more of their dishes! The service here was amazing and they always checked up on us to see if we needed anything but also never rushed us.

  6. Great Japanese comfort food which we hadn't had before. We were on a vacation to New York City and noticed how good the food was in the Lower East Side. We really likes our appetizer choices including the tuna and fried chicken which was awesome. We also enjoyed the gobo sticks which is sautéed but burdock root. We asked our waiter what it tastes like and he said burdock root. Lol, you just have to try it and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed and it only costs $4. For entrees I also recommend vegetable curry and the Nanban Don. All five of us really enjoyed our food. This is one of my stepbrothers go to spots in the lower east side. Great service and food definitely deserve there current 4.5 star review. If you live in the area and haven't been yet, get on it!

  7. Cute little place with decent food.

    Food:
Unatamadon – decent but I like oh taisho's better
    Curry – good
Chicken kuraage (fried) – a bit on the fatty side
    Tofu age – very good

  8. One of the better Japanese meals that I've had in a while, regardless of price range.

Strolled in around 5 pm on a sunny Saturday afternoon. They have all the windows open, which was a good call since the weather was beautiful that day.

Started with the happy hour special, which was the scallop sashimi appetizer with a glass of Otokoyama for $12.  Great deal!

The scallops were absolutely delicious. They were all devoured within a minute. I strongly regretted not getting two orders of those…

The tuna tataki was superb and it had quite a kick of heat. Nothing too intimidating, but it's definitely there. Garlic beef was also good, but it lost a bit of shine compared to the two dishes that came before.

The Una-Tama don came last and it was the perfect closer. The eel pieces were delicate and tender, completely opposite of your average frozen eel pack. The sauce was a nice balance of sweet and savory, complemented by the soft texture of the egg.

Service was on point throughout. Amazing meal!
