  1. I love this location! The sushi and hibachi are yummy! I look forward to the $30 birthday certificate they send every year via email. it's so worth it. The punch bowl drink is just ok. It should definitely be stronger for $23. The food is so good. The prices are fine. My preferred location.

  2. I came here for hibachi with several of my co workers. It was very good. I had the Beniyhana special which was steak and a lobster tail with a grilled shrimp appetizer. First I was brought out a mushroom broth, then a salad with ginger dressing. The finer dressing has a little kick to it. I think they add horse radish to it. Then it wand the hot shrimp appetizer, followed by grilled vegetables cut julienne style and fried rice. Along with the main course of the lobster and steak. It was all very good. I also shared a Beniyhana roll with someone else at my table that was excellent as well.

The dessert was amazing and worth trying. It was a deep fried banana sundae. The banana came out piping hot mixed with my cold ice cream was amazing. One bad thing- they didn't have coffee which would of been perfect with my sundae. The serving size was large enough that I took some of my food home.

Pricing is a little on the higher side, mostly because of the location being short hills. But if you have the money to spend this place is definitely worth it.

  3. It's Benihana, what's there to really say.  Good, consistent restaurant chain serving up simple but pretty yummy American-Japanese food.  The entertainment value is not there at this location.  The Benihana chefs in CA seem to show off more creative knife handling skills, food handling and have brighter personalities.  Here, they seem like they are following a script and doing it somewhat reluctantly.  After all, we go to Benihana for that communal table buzz and when there is no buzz, the food had better be that much better.  But Benihana is Benihana, the food doesn't necessarily get better or worse because of that type of menu.  The allure of the place is the chef and his ability to dazzle us on the teppan grill.

The sour apple sake is damn tasty.  Tony Robbins should come in for an hour, give the rah-rah motivation speech to the chefs, then perhaps they'll give us a better show.  Or a Harold Prince type producer to manage the entertainment.

Oh, the real value here is lunch.  For about 12 bucks, you can get a hearty meal and it's quieter.  No kids screaming when they flame up the grill.  It's a nice midweek, one hour break from the office.

  4. Think of the worst qualities of all the chain restaurants you've been to, combine those into one, and the resulting product is Benihana.

Generic, uninspired sauces? Check. The "spicy sauce" for our chicken was basically a more artificial version of sweet and sour, with chili oil thrown in.

Formulaic, tasteless food? Check. When you have to douse your food in sauces, you know the quality is bad. When you douse ALL of your food (from the noodles, to the veggies, to the rice, to the protein) in black pepper, salt and unknown white sauce (perhaps tartar), you know the quality is terrible. It definitely isn't very appetizing when my chicken tasted like my veggies which tasted like the shrimp.

Vague menu that tries to up-sell customers? Check. Their entrees come with a soup, salad and rice, but they don't specify that it's white rice only. So when my friends asked what other options for rice they had, and our waitress rattled off fried rice or noodles (without mentioning that it would cost additional, mind you), they would obviously go with something different. Obviously, this led to an unhappy situation when we got the check, as we were charged extra ($4.95) for EACH order of fried rice/noodles.

And don't even get me started on their terrible "entertainment".

    Terrible. Just terrible.

TL;DR? Benihana, you don't even wanna

  5. This place is a great destination for groups and kids. In my opinion, it's more about the experience than the food. They're totally accommodating to large groups, as well as small parties of just two. It's a huge, casual place with numerous Hibachi stations. Only 10 or so people can sit at a table at a time so if you're there with a larger party, you'll likely be split up into tables nearby. The chefs do cute tricks with shrimp tails, steam, their hats and rice. It's entertaining for kids and those who have never been before. As for the food, it's nothing special. It's good, but I don't think it's worth the price. Everything kind of seems like the same dish with a slight variation on the flavor (i.e. Hibachi chicken and spicy chicken were relatively the same thing to me). You can get cheaper Chinese take out three times over for what you'd pay here, but again, you're paying for the experience. You do get a lot of food as part of your entree  – soup, salad, rice, and a few shrimp – which is a plus.  It's hard NOT to have a good time here. You'll leave smelling like Hibachi, but likely with a smile on your face.

  6. This place is okay. with the new change on the menu we don't get both fried rice and noodles… what a rip. it has also become more pricey over the years

always a fun experience but food is kind of bland now too. been coming here since i was a kid

  7. Ahhhh benihana's. What can i say about this place that no one knows.

It was the middle of the day when i went so it wasnt packed. And this location is the most spacious i have ever been too.

someone comes and takes your order and drinks and any little appetizers that you may be interested in.

The cooking is the best part. The cook always tells jokes during the process which is always a plus. They start you with the soup which is always good. I wish i could take some home. Then comes your choice of rice and then the food.

Most times by the time the food reaches my plate i am already full. But i still enjoy it anyways.

  8. Came in today for lunch. I chose the Hibachi scallops. They come with hibachi vegetables which include  zucchini and carrots. Entire dish was very satisfying. The scallops were very nicely cooked. Dessert consisted of a refreshing pineapple boat.

Customer Service was excellent all-around !!!
