  1. This place is great for vegans and carnivores to eat a big ass breakfast together in harmony.  I was up visiting my best friend who is allergic to soy (seriously, she sneezes at me all the time because it just oozes out of my pores) and had to find a place we both could eat.  Bliss worked out wonderfully.  She was able to eat an egg bagel with some sides, and I got a delicious tofu scramble with tempeh bacon, potatoes, and toast with a lovely raspberry jam.  The juices are great too- I got a beet, carrot, lemon, ginger concoction that was refreshing.  Service was nice and attentive.  It's definitely going to be a spot we go back to whenever we visit again!

  2. Well I came in here with zero expectations.  I have to say I left mildly disappointed.

    The what:
    – grilled tempeh sandwich
    – chips
    – side salad with ginger dressing
    – fruit salad for good measure…

I've had tempeh at tons of places, some malaysian and some vegetarian.  And usually it's cooked well.  This tasted more on the raw side, and not in a good way.  The sauce on the sandwich was odd & the veggies didn't taste extremely fresh.

This is an odd point really.  For a place that prides itself in the vegetable side of life, I expect one lucky duck quality veggies.  That's not what I had.

Chips on the side were like cheapo dorritos or something.  Dunno, don't want to ask.

The side salad was weak too.  Didn't like the dressing and carrots were not fresh.

The highlight of this meal was the fruit salad which was very good.  But overall I left sadly disappointed.  Not impossible that I might try them again, but unlikely.

  3. Bliss Cafe isn't anything too extraordinary. There are definitely several other vegetarian and vegan options to choose from, but if you find yourself hungry and nearby then this place will do the trick.

This establishment only takes cash for payment. Let's go ahead and get that out of the way since they do not announce it on your arrival. Thanks to all you Yelpers lookin' out for each other.

We weren't sure how this place worked, so we just plopped down on a table when we weren't directed on what to do. A woman came over to us and noticed our table was dirty so she cleaned it off before handing us a menu. Although only occupying three other patrons, this restaurant was kind of a mess, from the table to the floor to the bathroom. It was just…greasy.

Our waitress was chattin' up a storm with her friend or sister or whomever. She came over to take our order, placed it and would sit back down between customers. She had two older gentleman telling her to 'sit down' and 'take a break' and 'we'll see you tomorrow' so I guess they were regulars. She wasn't really preoccupied with running the business, the man in the back was the one cooking the food AND clearing the few tables they had.

The menu is handwritten and photocopied. It was kind of annoying to read. My boyfriend's menu had an item scratched out and mine didn't.

The lady brought us water. She didn't ask us what we wanted to drink so I can't tell you what they offer.

Anyway, my boyfriend and I split the Lentil-Beet burger. He isn't a huge fan of beets, which I forgot in my fit of hanger, but luckily he eats anything. The burger was overall good. It was on a nice bun and came with a side of vegan coleslaw and tortilla chips. It was enough food for the both of us because we weren't extremely hungry but it would be a good sized portion for one person.

The food was just good, at best. The beet in the burger made it interesting but nothing else stuck out. From my expertise, I can't say that this place is as vegan friendly as it advertises. The woman running the joint wasn't as attentive as she could have been. The burger was about $12 (expensive) which is typical of New York, from my experiences. You can definitely get better service and better food at a cleaner establishment elsewhere.

  4. I gottta say that I am really underwhelmed with this place. For an established all-veg restaurant in the super veg-friendly WIlliamsburg neighborhood, their menu is uncreative and outdated (particularly brunch). Hummus wraps, tofu scramble and breakfast burritos? The menu is a long list of super basic veggie options that you find at really meaty places that don't know what the heck to offer vegans/vegetarians. An all vegetarian restaurant really needs to have a stronger menu.

I've been several times and the service has always been friendly, but sometimes inattentive.

  5. So a meat eater from Long Island walks into a Vegan restaurant with her hippie friend….

    and REALLY ENJOYS IT!

Bliss bowl – tahini dressing? YES. YES. YES.

  6. I drove out to Brooklyn and got free street parking so I was going to make a day of it after paying that insane toll from NJ.

I decided to try out Bliss Cafe since I love vegan friendly spots.

The waitress we had was super sweet and nice.

We split the chili con pan, which was alright. The corn bread was a little dry. I added some hot sauce to the chili.

My main meal was the seitan steak sandwich, which was AMAZING. All hail Seitan! It was as good as any hamburger out there. I paid $1 extra for a side salad, which I added the greens to the sandwich to give it a "fresh" taste or else it would have felt too decadent.

Halfway through the sandwich, I was already getting too full and couldn't find space for dessert.

Definitely a great spot for vegan options.

Downfall: limited seating and cash only! So hit up that ATM ahead of time!

  7. This place is most certainly not vegan bliss.

While I'm neither a vegan or vegetarian by label, I eat and cook many vegan dishes at home so I sometimes like trying vegan places. I should have known this would be a mistake just by the looks of this place but sometimes a place looks shabby and the food is amazing..not the case here.

Everything we had here was so bland, that includes the food and restaurant itself.Lots of options but nothing that really stands out, the place is super dark and just looks dirty.  This is place is seriously one of the reasons most people think vegan food is terrible and tasteless. It makes me sad because vegan food CAN be super delicious it just is not done right here.

I ordered a egg sandwich with tomato, vegan cheese and vegan bacon. Egg sandwiches should always be served warm and the bagel should be at least a little warm or toasted. This was the most boring sandwich I've ever had and the vegan bacon was just pure sadness. I've had vegan bacon before and it can be make nice and crispy and with flavor. This was just bleh.
My guy fit the bean burrito which he also didn't enjoy and the chili on the side was lacking flavor aswell.

I won't be back here and I'm really upset that I couldn't like this place, there needs to be more places that serve GOOD vegan food.

  8. Simple and tasty. Value eats. Chili with corn chips side of brown rice is my bag baby.
