  1. Absolutely amazing! I've been here a few times, but they really stepped up their game since last time I went! The manager Dan was great. He was attentive, extremely knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and made our dining experience as pleasurable as humanely possible. I came here with my parents on a Friday around 6pm, we did not have a reservation, and they originally tried to sit us in the main dining area, but we said it was a bit loud and so they happily sat us by the fire and the wine cellar to the front right of the restaurant which was perfect.

We started off with martinis, which were amazing. Then Dan reviewed the daily specials. Let me tell you, everything he mentioned sounded fantastic. He really knew exactly what was in each dish and how everything was prepared. Excellent job on his part. We ended up ordering prawns stuffed with crab meat and a pasta appetizer to share. The prawns were huge and the pasta dish was delightful. Then I ordered a scallop special and my parents ordered the swordfish. My parents are the toughest critics and even they loved everything we ordered.

I couldn't find one thing to complain about if I tried. Great waitstaff, as well as excellent food and comfortable ambiance. Just note, you will pay for the 'experience'. It's not cheap, but it's well worth it.

  2. This review is for a baby shower I just attended

Yes the buffet was good.  It was a brunch and everything was not only nice and hot but tasty.

Most of all the service is impeccable and that is why I gave it 5 stars.  The waiters and all the staff are so courteous, patient with the patrons and accepting every challenge with a smile

One of the staff was Drew.  He not only acted as waitstaff but attended to the party billing, clean up etc. This young man was top notch, gracious and super attentive.  He is worth his weight in gold to this place.  I would bring my own reunion or party there just due to their great service

I heard someone ask for toast to be made for them and they said yes ma'am and went and made her some toast which wasn't on the menu

To the management.  Do whatever you can to hold onto Drew and the staff you have. They are all gems!

  3. Came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The restaurant is located in a historical building in Hawthorne. That's one of the reasons that drew us to the place for our anniversary (we are both history buffs). My boyfriend has also been here before and recommended the restaurant highly.

Our waiter was incredibly friendly. He asked us before informing us of specials and taking our order if either of us had any food allergies. I do (fruits with pits, figs, cherries) and he made sure to note it.

My boyfriend and I got the steamed clam appetizer. It was excellent.

For our entrees, there was a bit of a mix up. I asked our server more info about the soprazetti pasta dish but ultimately ordered the spinach linguini. My boyfriend got a pasta special. When our entrees arrived, I got the soprazetti and not the spinach linguini. Our waiter apologized profusely and asked if I wanted him to swap. I didn't want my boyfriend to be waiting for my food, so I ate the soprazetti. It was really good.

While we were eating, our waiter brought out a half portion of the spinach linguini for my boyfriend and I to share on the house. We thought this was very kind. We were able to bring home leftovers as a result.

We split the apple tart for dessert because we were so full.

Mistakes can happen sometimes, and our waiter here went above and beyond with customer service since he made a mistake. All the other staff members we encountered were also excellent.

I hope to come back here and be able to rate this place five stars. It definitely had the potential to be that in my view.

  4. This place is as good as it gets. From the service to the ambiance to the food – excellent all around.

I came here for dinner with a bunch of coworkers on a Friday night and Bottagra did not disappoint. We had reservations and grabbed a drink at the bar until all 10 of us had arrived. They accommodated our party very well.

    Here's the breakdown:

    Location:
For such a nice restaurant, it is in a very odd location.  It's on a typical busy road in Hawthorne, NJ next to a tire business and near several other industrial type businesses. The restaurant itself looks like a beautiful home and it set back off the road so it creates its own atmosphere once you pull in the parking lot.

Parking: The parking lot is huge, but they have valet parking so they park your car for you. This is wonderful for the winter months.

Decor: Warm, upscale, dimly lit. Appropriate music and volume for the setting.

    Service:
The server (or maitre d for this type of establishment) came over and was extremely well-versed with the specials for the night. They change every night and this guy had them down to a T. He added some flare and a little humor; it was very entertaining. Apparently this guy has done a commercial/commercials so he is a good character and really lightened us up from the start.

    Food:
I would suggest you order from the specials.  Some of us did and some of us didn't, but we all enjoyed our meal. Two of my friends ordered the Porterhouse steak and that was literally more than enough to share for two grown men. I had the Sea Bass special on top of spinach and a butternut squash mash.  Amazing.

The place is pricey, but you're paying for the quality and the quantity. I recommend this place for a date night or a special event with friends!

  5. According to my parents,  who have quite the international palate,  this restaurant has an outstanding wine list, but the food doesn't deserve high ratings.  Why is it so hard to find a top notch Italian restaurant in NJ?  So many Italians,  yet so many mediocre Italian places.

  6. I have had Bottarga bookmarked for quite some time now, and this past weekend, I was finally able to try it.  My husband and I were here for a surprise 30th birthday dinner.  We had our own private room, which was nice.  We were about 25 people, so being set back in our own space rather than having a large table in the main dining room, was really nice.  We started off with some appetizers, rice balls, fried calamari and the eggplant rollatine.  All were delicious.  The calamari, was seasoned well, and cooked perfectly. Sometimes calamari can be extra chewy, if it is not cooked right, but that was not the case here!  The rice balls, were a nice size, filled with your traditional, sauce, meat, cheese and peas, and perfectly browned on the outside! For dinner I had the crabmeat stuffed shrimp and my husband had the skirt steak.  The steak was cooked PERFECTLY!!! We ordered medium rare, and got the medium rare.  It was a nice size, and well seasoned! My shrimp dish was good as well, I got about 5 shrimp, and each were butter-flyed and stuffed with crab meat, in a creamy sauce, served with vegetable and mashed potatoes.

All in all a great dinner.  Service was great! Our sever did an awesome job making sure our water glasses were always full, continually asking if we needed anything, and made splitting the bill at the end of the night, SOOOOO easy!

Definitely put this on your list of places to try!!

    Enjoy!

  7. This place is a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere! It is a little bit in from the road which can make it easy to pass

I came here for the power lunch special. For this great deal you get a glass of wine, house salad, and lunch entree for $18. Portions are a little on the small size. The house salad was a bit small and see-through because I was able to see the bottom of my plate when I go the salad lol. The salmon was excellent, perfectly cook and I loved the spinach and potatoes which were seared with crispy cheese on top. My dad's tilapia looked sooooo good and I can't wait to get that when I come back.

The interior is absolutely gorgeous with the chandeliers in the main dining room. The staff is very friendly. (Make sure to check our the cool bathrooms as well).

  8. NOTE: I am reviewing Bottagra from the catering and party venue perspective rather than the traditional dining experience.

We came here for our cousin's first communion and it turned out pretty well! The decor while seemed somewhat dated, it looked very homely. There was enough room for about 70 of us for an afternoon communion reception. There was even room for a photo booth, a dessert table and a magician to perform for the kids.

The food was pretty good – we had some beef, chicken, penne pasta, all Italian-style. The sangria was refreshing and the service was serviceable. The fruit was fresh and the appetizers were good. I would definitely go back to take a look at their menu.
