  1. Bomboloni!

Came here to try their bomboloni. It is an Italian filled doughnut and they definitely prepare them well at Bottega Falai. The dough had a perfect chew with a generous sugar coating. They are filled with custard or jam. Both kinds are excellent.

Employees are friendly and quick. Little seating is available. In addition to baked goods and pastries, they also offer sandwiches, soups, drinks, etc.

Nice place for a quick bite.

  2. Great place to nosh in Little Italy. Inexpensive Avocado and Tomato Foccacia. The only thing I'm concerned about is the soup. The bowl was a bit too hot, and I noticed  how uneven the heating was. Some areas of the soup were hot, and some were a bit cold. I suspected that it might have been microwaved. (Sigh)  There goes the nutrients, but still! Don't let that discourage you from getting food here. It's still a great place to get something quick. Employees seems happy, and they were helpful enough to give us directions to our final destination.

  3. This is review for the crepe cake. This crepe cake is so delicious. It's different from the lady m crepe cake. Stick with the original crepe cake here. The creme and layers are a bit thick but the texture of the creme is great and sweetness is just right.

  4. went in for coffee. then a tray of pizza tarts comes out of kitchen. teeny puff pastry brushed w/ red sauce, roasted cherry tomatoes & fresh mozza on top…could not resist. had two.

  5. Holy bombolini!

This is a true Italian deli in the heart of SOHO. Its a small shop, you walk and they're making sandwiches to the right and straight ahead your faced with bombolini's!!!

    Yay!

They were really fresh, its a pain in the neck to make these Italian donuts so I can appreciate the care involved.

I also saw some other baked goods as well as French Macarons?

I grabbed a bombolini and ran! Great place for a quick lunch. There's a crepe place around the corner, ewww.. Come here instead!

  6. I walk by this place every day on my stroll to work, and it certainly does the trick for a quick and easy bite first thing in the morning. Their coffee is better than most other caffeinated destinations in the 'hood (which isn't the hardest feat to pull off), and they have a pretty nice selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastries as well. Are they the best on the planet? Not really… but they're pretty darn A-OK.

At times, it can get a little backlogged, and in those cases… you're better off coming to visit at a later day. Trust.

  7. Bottega Falai reminded me how much better food is in New York than anywhere else, how much harder it is to compete in this market than, say, Atlanta, and literally made me reassess the way I have rated other (non-NYC) places.

I had a prisciutto cotto panini, and a avocado salad, both of which were excellent; I had a lemon Italian soda of some kind, like an Orangina or San Pellegrino but from a different company. As a table, we shared three types of their famous crepe cake: chocolate, strawberry, and sweet cream.  All were mind-blowingly good.  I accompanied dessert with an exquisite Cafe Americano.

The decor is charming and unique within my experience, with a variety of worn white tiles on both the floor and walls.  The owner, a taciturn middle-aged import himself, came and sat with our party for a while.  The fellow manning the cash register was either Italian or French himself, with hipster glasses and an ironic moustache.  We spent at least two hours, with the door open to a slightly-chilly breeze, and a steady stream of pedestrians entering and leaving.  The experience was *very* New York, and I loved it.

  8. This is strictly on Crepe cake (please make sure).

After getting hooked with lady M I have been looking for any other places with crepe cake.  I happened to pass by today, so decided to check it out.  The store was pretty neat, and the service was very adequate.

However, the crepe cake was far removed from the standard set by lady M to me.  First of all the crepe was not thin and soft enough, so the cake lost the integrity the minute I dug in.  Also, there was too much cream which didn't really integrate with crepe well.
