  1. I had passed this place a few times while shopping in the Rye Brook plaza and always wanted to check it out. It looked like an awesome, upscale sushi place with waterfalls, Buddhists on the wall, and a very cozy ambiance. I ended up coming for lunch on a disgustingly rainy Tuesday so the place was pretty dead but I thought the food was good and I liked the ambiance, plus I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. For lunch I ended up going with 2 sushi rolls for $8.50-$9 which came with a miso soup or salad. They also had some awesome Thai options that looked rather tasty for about $10 or so. I ended up with a spicy yellowtail crunch roll and tuna avocado with extra spicy mayo and brown rice. Everything tasted fresh to me and I liked that the rolls weren't jam packed with rice like some places do. The service was pretty quick, I was easily in and out within an hour. The waitress wasn't super friendly, but it was lunch, so I was expecting and in/out type of situation. I can't say too much as all I had was two rolls for lunch, but overall their menu has a lot of options, and it looked like they had a decent wine and cocktails menu too. I'd love to come back and try some Thai food. My office is about 10 minutes away, so I really have no reason not to!

  2. My co-workers and I had dinner here last night and the birthday girl chose this place. All I knew was this just opened a few months ago so I read the yelp reviews. Everyone seems to be a fan so I'm quite excited to try their food.

The place was pretty empty when we got there. Only a few tables occupied and 2 hibachi dinners going on. The weather wasn't the greatest either – rainy and windy. What I liked upon entering this place was the big Buddha to your right. It's humongous and pretty awesome! The interior was not too shabby either. There were life-sized Asian statues by the sushi bar and the wall dividing the regular dining room and the hibachi area were nicely decorated. I'd post pics but the ones I took came up dark.

Food – I can't wait to go back!!! Everything was delicious. We had the seaweed salad, rock shrimp tempura, and chicken dumplings for appetizers. The salad was fresh and spiced just right and the dumplings were so tasty! One order was not enough so we had seconds! For the main course, not everyone was a fan of hand rolls so we got some regular entrees as well. We ordered the crispy red snapper, orange chicken and some rolls such as the old man-c, out of control roll, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, green dragon and iso. The entrees came hot and nicely presented. The snapper was really crispy (just like they described) and had this really good sauce. The orange chicken was perfect. Not too orange-y like some places will do and not lacking the flavor either. Both orders came with rice. As for the rolls, everything was fresh! They were pretty huge, 8 pieces each and rolled tightly so they didn't fall apart. Nice presentation as well.

Service was great! Or maybe because it wan't busy! The drinks and water were refilled without any of us asking and they accommodated every request made such as spicy mayo on the side, more wasabi or some kid's chopsticks since not everyone in our group knew how to use one. i told the wait staff that we had a birthday girl and he came out with an ice cream bowl after we had all finished dinner and sang for her.

Our co-workers who couldn't make the get together asked how our dinner was and we were all raving about it. Just planned a get together lunch and we will all be back in a few weeks!!

  3. Whoa! Talk about Buddha, he's right there when you walk in! Or at least a giant statue sitting above a lovely little koi pond. The rest of the interior was very nice, though a little dark, especially for lunchtime.
We were seated right away and our server was prompt in bringing our drinks and food. Not very personable but he did everything correctly and efficiently so I can't complain much. My bf got a spicy salmon roll which I kid you not, came out in 90 seconds or less. He also got the General Tsao's both of which he devoured while still leaving room to help me eat my yummy Thai basil chicken. It was less vegetable and broth based than other Thai basil dishes I've had but it still tasted great.
All in all, a reasonably priced spot for lunch with tasty food.

  4. Just had delivery through GrubHub.

I thought the food was pretty good.  I would recommend it.  The avocado sushi roll was great.  There was a tempura roll which was also good.  The cucumber roll was… OK.  There was a mixed veggie roll in there as well, which was real good too.  So many rolls… more on that later.  Then I had the veggie dumplings which were great.  And lastly, some miso soup.  The soup was good and they gave like a big container full of it.

Buddha's menu is extensive.  There are LOTS of options and plenty of choices for vegetarians.

I think the only thing I'd say as a negative is that they require a $20 order minimum in order to do the GrubHub delivery.  Part of that is balanced by the fact that there was no additional delivery charge, but the minimum forced me to order much more food than I needed.  Leads to wasted food and over-eating.

One other minor thing, they should've sent more soy sauce.  With all those sushi rolls, the little cup of soy was not enough.  I even used up the couple of extra packets they sent, but I still ran out of soy before my rolls were finished.  It turned out OK, because I couldn't eat anymore anyway.  But still, I would suggest they err on the side of providing some extra soy sauce.  What does that cost… 25 cents?

The delivery was super fast.  Probably… like 25 minutes or less.  It worked out really perfectly for me in terms of timing.  I don't know why they estimated the delivery would be 1 hour up front, though.

I think I'll be ordering from Buddha again.

  5. Salmon carpaccio – not fresh at all
Mango, crab, avacado salad – it was ok…too much mayo for my liking.
Crispy Red snapper – fresh fish,  ok flavored but not crispy at all. More like a red soggy breaded fish in sauce.

Overall eh…will not order again. The delivery time was estimated between 45 mins to an hour. They arrived a little after an hour and just left it at the front desk..probably because I prepaid the tip…

  6. This is just A-OK food. Nothing more, nothing less. If you're in the area and don't want to go to White Plains, then it's a choice place with pretty much all you can think of from East Asia, although select foods.

I recently went there for the 3rd time and had a pork pan friend dumplings and was really surprised – they were Hong Kong good… and the beef satay was decent too. My wife flipped on the scallion pancake – a perfect hang over dish since it's full of oil.

They didn't quite understand that cilantro was, even though it's used in that side of the world, or what fresh chilies were. The waitress asked if we were ok with bell pepper and celery (as far from cilantro as garlic to the coco bean). Anyway, with much persistence we did get dried chillies with were pretty spicy.

95 bucks (including wine) later I was wondering if this place is that worth it. I tipped fairly while thinking of keeping the return trip open….

  7. Went to Buddha for lunch with a friend. Service mediocre. Wrong food orders brought to table. Soup served cold and tasted like dishwater Sent back. Meal served cold and sent back. Restaurant so dark it's hard to see what you're eating. Overall a poor disappointing meal all round.
Ironically, their home delivery service is pretty good but I won't be back to dine at this restaurant again.
