  1. I ordered a delicious steak sandwich here.  It was not packed when I went.  The workers seem approachable and relaxed.  The prices seem alright, not too expensive, not for the frugal. They have classic sandwiches, lattes, and a variety of vegetarian options like salad.  There are people working on homework and also some that are with their laptops.  Not sure what the culture is in here, but it does have oldies playing in the background in case you were curious.  I did notice people take phone calls inside which can bother those who are studying.  They have a bathroom(clean one).

  2. i haven't had the food here, so I don't really have too much to say (yet), but the iced coffee drinks are top notch.  Their iced mocha first seemed like coffee with chocolate syrup, but 1) looks can be deceiving and 2) if in fact that's all it was, I'm fine with that, because YUM.  It was smooth and not too acidic…even though I got skim milk, which isn't as creamy as whole milk.

Their servers are also very friendly, and the atmosphere seems pretty calm.  I'm a huge fan of this place.

  3. This place is pretty far up there but it was cold the other and baby needed a cup of the good stuff.

The coffee was not bad at all full flavored and not much bitterness. One of my per peeves is when they put the sugar and cream in the coffee for you, I will say they did a good job, but let me have the honor please.

  4. Am I crazy for giving a spot 5 stars without even walking in? Nope. Here is why.

I feel like I have most of Astoria pretty well scoped out. I live, more or less in 'central' Astoria, I always have my eye on Yelp and other Astoria related blogs and I'm always on the lookout, whether I'm walking or driving, for new businesses/restaurants/bars. Well, apparently in the 2 years I've actually lived in Astoria, this place has completely been flying under my radar and just this past weekend, this place came out of no-where and gave me a culinary 'punch in the face'.

Usually one time per weekend, when my gf and I don't feel like whippin up some breakfast, we turn to our Seamless iPhone apps and find a place that will deliver us some early morning grub. So far, we've liked the spots we have tried so far. Finally, this past weekend, we gave Cafe Via Express a shot. They had breakfast wraps, which is probably my favorite breakfast meal and a host of other egg platters, omelets and stuff from the griddle? Sounded like a good deal so I went with Burrito Vaquero, while the lady went with an omelet. The Yelp reviews were mediocre, it's sorta sandwich in middle of Little Middle East on Steinway – my hopes weren't high, I was just hoping for a solid breakfast and then get on with my day. Oh yeah, we each got one of their veggie/fruit juices and a ice coffee.

HOLY SHIT this is the best breakfast burritto/wrap I've ever had! Probably the best thing I've had for breakfast in Astoria, period. 3 eggs, melted cheddar and pico de gallo all wrapped in a thin wrap, with a side of perfectly made home-fries? Shit, where do I sign up to get this delivered every weekend?! My gf also was gushing about her omelet and our ice coffee's and fresh squeezed juices really hit the spot. Seems like a lot of Yelpers seemed "ehh" about the actual location. It just might be a while then before I actually step foot in here and for the time being, I think I might just rely on Seamless orders from here to feed me mouth watering breakfast meals from this gem.

  5. As a roller derby girl, Cafe Via Espresso has become my go-to breakfast place on bout days. They have a variety of protein-packed options, and I'm a big fan of the power wrap! Healthy but filling. On non-bout days, I LOVE their challah French toast (with strawberries – YUM!). Their prices are really reasonable and the coffee drinks are great. They can be a bit slow to bring the bill when dining in, but I think it's because they don't want you to feel rushed. I bring all of our out-of-town visitors here for breakfast!

  6. I came once for a croissant & coffee and it is a nice little place / hidden gem.  A little pricey though.

Would definitely come back for breakfast if was in the area.

  7. This is based on trying them for the first time today for lunch based on all the rave reviews on Yelp, duh!

I had the Reuben sandwich minus the Russian dressing and added lettuce, tomato and mustard making it into more of a pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut.  One thing you have to understand, I absolutely love pastrami!  Give me anything topped with pastrami and I'll eat it!

So, the bread was toasted and caramelized with butter to perfection.  The swiss cheese was melted and fused with pastrami like old souls.  Everything was top notch including the condiments.

Only constructive feedback I have for this joint is that there was simply too little pastrami.  I mean like only 2 slices worth.  You guys can do better than that, way better.

I'm in pastrami heaven right now 🙂

  8. Cafe Via Espresso has FIVE STAR customer service.

It's their standard, ordinary, bland diner food that I thought was pretty 'meh'.  I can see how this place is great for a quick coffee/snack fix, but as a restaurant, the food they serve up ranges from good to blah – nothing to ooh or ahh, or rave about.  Cafe Via Espresso is cheap and fast grub, with super friendly service.  Their drinks are definitely their forte.

The Carrot, Orange, Beet juice is the best thing I've had from Via Espresso so far.

Cafe Via Espresso gets an A-OK from me, because I like their juice, tea, lemonade, and coffee selection. If I could give a 3.5, I would, but I can't – and I don't see myself coming back here often, so I can't rationalize a 4-star "I'm a fan" rating.
