  1. I wasn't too sure about this place since I'm usually not a fan when they mix different type of cuisines. I didn't try anything from the Italian menu so my review is just on the Dominican food. I tried the Pollo al Ajillo (chicken in garlic sauce), moro (rice mix with beans), baked chicken, plantains and pastelitos (chicken patty)
    Everything was delicious.

  2. Well if you're in the mood for authentic and good Spanish food and don't mind venturing into the seedier side of Yonkers then check out this restaurant which is actually Caridad and Johnnies.  It used to be an Italian restaurant which was bought out and now includes Spanish cuisine as well.  When you come in the restaurant is run as a typical Spanish counter with chickens roasting in the front and various stews, rices and bean heating in the counter.  There is also an area to sit and eat diner style.

  3. Unlike NYC, there aren't a lot of places where you can walk in on a week night after say 9:00 PM in Westchester and expect that the kitchen is open and anyone wants to cook for you; it's nights like those at least once a year that we stop by Cardid & Louie's for take-out. We get menu #1, which gives you a whole cut-up roasted chicken, a large container of rice (your choice of color and with or without beans), plantains, a small green salad (years ago the salad was a lot bigger!) and a 2 liter soda. It isn't health food or gourmet cooking, but priced under $20 (the price used to be a lot smaller!) it's a good value and although the take-out counter can get crowded, and we're not Spanish-speakers, we've always found the service friendly enough especially considering how hard they're working. Looking into the (intimate) dining room from the take-out side over the years suffice it to say that there have always been seats available; they have their own (sometimes busy) parking lot.

  4. Good tasting Spanish food at a cost…..

Yes, the food tastes pretty good (from what I've had), but in between the way the staff acts to the stomach aches I get later, it's not the greatest place around either.

I mention stomach aches, because I get one just about every time I eat from here whatever it is that I order. Maybe it's just me and maybe it's a spice or two they put in their food – but I wouldn't be the only one to have had this problem either. Either way, knowing I'll get a stomach ache hasn't stopped me from ordering take out from here since the food does hit the spot when I do get it. Maybe my stomach is more sensitive than others, but if your system can't tolerate certain spices, I'd check before ordering. The Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad is always great, along with the chicken I've ordered……among other things. The prices are reasonably decent as well for some items – others, not so much.

One of my main problems I have with this place is the way they treat non-Spanish customers. I've had the same experiences from other places as well and while it hasn't been all the employees I've encountered here, it's been more than a few. Slice it any way you want to slice it, but bad business is bad business. Most notably is the nasty cashier I've dealt with almost every time who is so blatantly rude, it's a wonder she's still allowed to work there. The stares, the non-English speaking……just bad business, even if it's not all the employees here. And it's not as if I'm not an unfriendly type – I'm always friendly and courteous. I was last there maybe 6 months ago because I decided to give this place a break – I have a tolerant threshold, but I won't tolerate rudeness or otherwise either. I recently considered going back, but thinking about the rudeness that I was in store for, made me change my mind and my money went elsewhere. The only thing that kept me this long was that the food tastes good – but it's not like it's the only place that serves Spanish food either or good food at that.

Don't be fooled by the "Louie's" or anything that they consider Italian in their menu, because it's not. And if it "legit", then it's crap. I'm Italian and know my foods. It's Spanish. Go to an authentic Italian eatery if that's what you're going for primarily.

I've always gotten my food to go, so I can't comment on the in-dining experience. Based on how they are in here, I don't ever plan to dine in. You can take out and they also deliver.

The street has metered parking or there is a small lot you can park if need be.

It's a generous 3 stars as an overall score. If I had to rate this place on just food alone, it would be 4+. If I had to rate this place based on (SOME) their employees rudeness and the way they act towards non-Spanish CUSTOMERS, it would be a lot of negatives. If the owner(s) cared about business, they'd fire the terrible rude employees here. IF you only want Spanish customers spending money on your business, then put up a sign…..in ENGLISH please.

  5. its one of the best Caridad Restaurants from the chain. The place is big and has lots of seating, separated from the area to take out food…The food is great, cheap and delicious. I Have taken lots of friends here for a fast and quick meal and they have loved it.

Their chicken is the best, get the dominican staple (la bandera) rice, beans and one side of meat, this will run you about 7 bucks, and you will not eat for the rest of the day. Get some maduros with that, and for desert..the delicious 3 leches (3 milk) cake.  go there and tell us about it.

  6. I've eaten here on and off for years. The customer service in person is not very good. No one smiles and if you don't speak Spanish, they won't be very nice at all. They often get orders wrong as well. I haven't tried the Italian food, but my impression is that they are a Spanish food joint, don't order Italian here regardless of the name.

For convenience, I've ordered delivery from GrubHub recently. The first time I was not very happy. We ordered Carne Frita (beef) and received pork. I will say the gentleman on the phone was apologetic and gave me a credit for the item. The maduros were all one big mush, the rest was fine. I was annoyed that I specified in my instructions for the delivery person to come to door, as I had two babies with me and would be hard for me to go outside. I still had to come downstairs.

I ordered again yesterday. The rotisserie chicken is standard fare, the rice and beans are good. The maduros were MUCH better this time and the tostones were good as well. The garlic mojo they send is YUMMY. The carne guisada was a bit tough but the flavor was on point. The shrimp in garlic sauce unfortunately spilled in the bag..but what was left was still delicious. The delivery guy came to my door this time.

TD;DR they have great value combos (chicken, sides, soda, etc.) and are a decent option for Spanish food in Yonkers. Just don't expect great service.
