Chef Pho & Peking Roast Duck

“They are quick to deliver and the hot & sour soup is the best I've had in a LONG time (aside from my mother's homemade recipe!)”

“In truth the twice cooked and ma po were a little underspiced to my taste and my sons…but perfect for my wife and daughter.”

“Much more my speed than the hyped up noodle restaurant around the corner, that requires a 2 hr wait for a table.”

  1. Super fast delivery with the food very hot, and friendly customer service over the phone!

I ordered: Pan fried wontons w/garlic sauce and the Shrimp w/garlic sauce lunch special w/white rice and a vegetable roll. Lots of leftovers for sure.

The wontons were smothered in a garlic-y chilli sauce and were divine! The name is incorrect I believe as these are dumplings not pan fried wontons as the name states.

The shrimp w/garlic sauce was tasty, and they don't skimp on the shrimp. The sauce wasn't too thick as most places are, leaving you feeling overly stuffed. It was light and perfect.

I recommend this place for fast food Chinese, definitely!

  2. Don't be fooled, this place does NOT serve Pho. But they do serve Peking duck, and a helluva duck, I might add. Too bad they only give a small amount of tortilla wraps, 50 cents for each additional wrap. $1 for a bowl of rice.

The rest of the food? Just A-OK. Most of the soups taste the same, kinda bland.

Extra points for not having a line and getting food out pretty quickly.

  3. Like that dude on "Mister Rogers", this place does have Speedy Delivery!

I ordered in and got my food very quickly.  It seemed hot and fresh and was reasonably priced.

Sesame chicken was my order and usually that is a very flavorful dish.  This was somewhat bland.  Just nothing that stood out. It was fine, white rice was okay.  The spring roll was ssuuuupppeeeerrrr greasy.  I mean really greasy.

I'd probably order here again if I thought about it.  But it was nothing spectacular.

  4. the food doesn't seem to be consistent… there are days when the food is solid and then there are days i can't seem to make out what the heck it is. the spring roll order: is it suppose to be one or two rolls? everytime i order it, the number is different.

  5. This is a VERY dependable place when it comes to Chinese takeout/delivery in the HK area.  The folks are fast and it's nice for once to deal with a Chinese delivery guy who isn't a total asshole or blames you tacitly for his life issues by greeting you with a scowl.

The food itself is ok.  You're not going to get gourmet stuff, but you're also not going to get dishes that are bottom of the barrel bad like in some other nasty takeout places.  They also have some decent dinner combo specials, which is a nice departure from ordering overpriced a la carte in other places.

They also have some Vietnamese options.  While it's not really uber authentic, some of their stuff like the grilled pork chops or sauteed beef cubes are not bad.

All in all a dependable neighborhood joint that is a solid three stars all around.

  6. Ordered the Curry Chicken Noodle Soup and Chicken Noodle Soup (large size) for pick up and wasn't too happy about the Chicken Noodle Soup. It's more noodles and less soup. I know, I know! Why am I complaining? Well you know Chinese soups always set such high expectations with more broth/water and less noodles. This was the other way around, so may be our expectations were wrong!

The curry chicken noodle soup on the other hand was really nice on flavor (a bit greasy to my liking) but taste wise really nice. The chicken was roasted. 1 thing that I did not like is the chicken is roasted with skin on. Not good if you don't like skin on your chicken! $19 for both, so price wise, quite decent!

  7. I've always disliked Chinese restaurants that make food that's overly Americanized, but I have to say, more genuine Chinese food doesn't automatically make a restaurant good.

This restaurant is a fantastic example of exactly that.

The food is stylistically Chinese, but it's boring and bland. The zha cai rou si mian I tend to get at such places is usually a good indicator of the quality of the restaurant. Here, it seems like they dumped egg noodles, shredded pork, and the veggies in a pot and just boiled the lot. Uninspired and uninteresting.

I could do better at home.

  8. I came here thinking there was pho and peking duck.
There was no Pho on the menu, cuz apparently its the chef's last name. Really? Its like having a chef called Chef Spaghetti and Chef Linguini.
There was also no peking duck on the menu…
There was a special dinner menu but they said you could only have those if you ordered take out. Cheaters.
I had some sort of noodles here, came here after the Russian Vodka Room so I don't even remember which noodles I had, except for the fact that it was slightly below average. I mean, after lots of drinks, everything is supposed to taste amazing right? But it actually tasted so so, so if I were sober, it must be pretty bad. Therefore I will not come here while sober.
