  1. Dined at Cherry Point on opening night. Our interest was peaked as the co-owners had a mix of experience from sous chef at The Spotted Pig and set designer and Michelin program cocktails. Overall, it seems to be a successful output.

The restaurant was lovely. I love that even on opening night, the space does not feel like it was something new that just plopped into the neighborhood. You walk in and it almost feels familiar like it's been a part of Greenpoint all along. It's a long restaurant with an open kitchen in the back, with a great layout for couples and groups alike.

The menu was reserved and we found quite a few things we wanted to try. Between the 2 of us, we ordered 5 things to share. We ordered the homemade cheese with honey and mint, the sausage starter, the country-pate with prune, the apple salad with smoked mackerel, and seared skate with morels, fava beans and peas. We enjoyed most of the dishes very much. The homemade cheese was delicious and fresh and served with toast. The sausage appetizer, I think I was envisioning something different–probably because of the polish neighborhood, I thought it was going to come out as a single medium sized sausage with mustard and sauerkraut. It instead came as a sausage sandwich with mustard and sauerkraut, but the sausage was still good. The country pate with prune was so good–with a horseradish mustard and a prune spread, also served with toast. Maybe a favorite! The apple salad was very enjoyable. It was a sweet, sour, and savory palette with an extra mustard seed crunchy texture–loved it. The seared skate was served with morel mushrooms, which I love because of its tendency to soak up sauces and flavors. The skate meat was great but overall the dish was overly salted. Overall, I did really enjoy the meal.

The service was a little clumsy and comical, but I'm sure that will smooth out with time. Looking forward to dining here again. Definitely want to come back to try more charcuterie items and the butchers cut steak frites!
