  1. Not the best  Chinese I've had, but then we did order from the $7 menu. Hot & sour soup was just average and the other dishes so so. Most of our orders were from the westernized menu so can't comment on the authentic Chinese dishes. The Tsing Tao beer was as good as it always is! Plenty of other choices IN Chinatown next time.

  2. The best thing about China Village is trust: they will prepare food according to dietary needs and will not lie to you. Dinner is very affordable when you order from the $8.88 specials, and the food is fine but not the best. Wow, the restrooms are TINY!

  3. I love that I can order dim sum via seamless from here!  My shrimp and asparagus and steamed shrimp balls were great!  Very very minimal flour filing and made with fresh jumbo shrimp. The rice plates are a great option as they come with a generous entree portion over white rice – all for $7.  They even have a shrimp/chicken with asparagus option, which was great. Delivery is very fast too (less than 15 min to Soho).

  4. Desperate and hungry during my NYC day trip, my hot date and I decided to stop into China Village for lunch.

Inside it is your average Chinese take out /dining area. Nothing to jump up and down about.

I wanted something light so I went with cashew chicken. My hot date ordered something I can't remember (something I didn't want to try).

The food was a huge proportion and could be shared for two.  It was cooked pretty good and fit the description really well.

PROBLEM: The waitress knocked over my boyfriend's ice tea can and didn't bother to get another one for him. She got plenty of napkins to clean it up but no ice tea. WTF.

Also, the bathroom is so small I couldn't squat. That was an issue. Clean up in aisle 6, ladies aka hold it if you can.

  5. "I've never had such terrible Chinese food before!" My friend spat-out a mouth-full of gristle which was supposed to be chicken breast, and groaned in disgust at the appallingly snot-like texture of his soup. And this was our second attempt at China Village, which in hindsight, really was a mistake. I believe whole-heartedly in second-chances, but everything I've tried here is completely flavorless to say the least, and absolutely unappetizing to be polite.

  6. Lapin and I were in the area and we were looking for a good place to eat. We passed by here and they advertised a dinner special of a soup and entree for under $20 (I forgot the exact amount). The restaurant had many 7 other customers in it. We were seated rather quickly and gotten menus except they didn't give us the menu with the special until we asked for it. I ordered the egg drop soup and Lapin got the wonton soup. The soups came out rather quickly and hot. I assume it's because they made a lot and kept it warmed until needed.  Lapin got the General Tso chicken with plain fried rice (the rice was an extra $2-$4) which looked tasty. He said it was okay. I ordered the chicken and broccoli with white rice. The taste was just off. The smell was atrocious and it didn't look fresh. After 4 bites (I was super hungry and tried putting hot sauce to make it tolerable), I couldn't take it anymore and just left my plate. The waiters were not friendly or attentive. No one came to refill water, asked how the meal was, and they kept bringing us the wrong entrees and other people's food. Lapin was still eating when they bought the check. They didn't even wait 2 seconds after he placed his credit card down before they snatched up and went to charge it. There are plenty of other tasty places in Chinatown, stay away from this one.
