Cipriani Downtown

“Good thing because he could truly give flying fig about people watching, so Cipriani attends to both of our needs, all at once!”

“Artichokes, Polenta Alla Primavera, and The Bellinis – to die for!:) Wish they would have opened one in LA!”

“With locations in Midtown, Soho and Wall Street, the Cipriani rivals restaurants such as Sant Ambroeus and Casa Lever.”

  1. Came here with my Wife… Been a client for at least 20 years and is always good. We order the Vitello tonnato … Burrata with sundried tomatoes, pasta with clams and bottarga, veal milanesa plus lemon merengue cake.. Uff… Service is 1st class.. Love it.

  2. Pros: This is the best Italian food that I have had. My friend had the organic salmon, which was the best I have had. I had the dover sole with the lemon sauce. The deserts looked amazing. Steamed vegetables were great and so was the salad. The sauce was excellent.

Cons: The bread was nothing special, and they did not give oil or red pepper to dip it in. The breadsticks were nothing special. It is difficult to figure out who to talk to when you first come in. No greeting. And no matter where you stand, you are always being shoved by small Mexican men running around with portions of people's order. Service was impersonal.

I hope to return soon because the food was excellent.

  3. Five stars for the location, ambiance and people watching, especially on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon when it is sufficiently warm to sit outdoor……. Three stars for the food, nothing special and much overpriced! But good fun to visit!

  4. SoHo is for the ones that want to see and be seen, ladies and gentlemen.
Sat at the "boss" table (against the wall, the table that sits just inside the window) for a summer dinner. It was hot as hell (sorry, guys in suits).

Branzino was perfect – simple, with just a touch of butter.

But let me tell you about the star of the show…

    Cake.

The vanilla meringue was like fluffy, sugary sky.
The chocolate cake was downright rudely good.
Skip the pecan pie. Stuff your face with cake.

  5. You've definitely heard the hype, and yes it is that good! If it is your first time going I recommend making an early reservation, the local crowed rolls in around 8:15 – 8:30ish and their noses hit the ceiling.

The service is amazing, the food is delicious, and always save room for dessert!

  6. Total disappointment. And this is solely based on my personal experience – not based on any hype that could have influenced unreasonable expectations. Prior to my visit, I never heard of the popular establishment (and it's multiple International locations). But a friend – new to New York – recommended we check out the Downtown Cipriani location for dinner and drinks.

The two managers repeatedly ignored our group of three gals – passing by multiple times without any acknowledgement – until I sternly flagged them over for a table. Not a great first impression. The good news is that the wait for a table wasn't long and was made bearable thanks to the Aperol spritzer, the only pleasant start to the evening, including the bartender who was a complete gentleman. Hats of to you, signore.

Our server was very knowledgeable with the menu, specials and recommendations based on our preferences; we had one pescatarian, one non-pork eater (me) and another with no dietary restrictions. Both of my girlfriends absolutely loved their dishes. Mars couldn't stop raving about the Baked Tagliolini (sans ham), though it was in the shallowest plate; and for someone as tiny as she is who never finishes her food, she cleaned her plate. G's Branzino alla Veneziana was another dinner highlight. No complaints there. As for me, I requested the pappardelle dish because that's one of my favorite types of pastas; instead, a rigatoni-style of pasta with pancetta came out for me. Before the server could put down the plate, I corrected the order and the server left with plate in hand. The manager and server came out and insisted I didn't order the pappardelle, which made me doubt myself. Did I not order the pappardelle?

Until I got the bill and there it was: "pappardelle" on itemized bill.

Our original server never returned (we had a new server from then on out), which made me realize these fellas tried to brush this situation under the rug. Shame on management for lying to me about my order just to avoid having to easily fix that mistake. The food and service is not worth it. (I paid $160 for myself and my gf). There are far too many amazing restaurants in NYC to bother with Cipriani.

  7. Love Cipriani Downtown! Great Fri night scene  Enjoyed a wonderful dinner outside. Started off with their signature Bellini… Yummy! Bar is jam packed with everything, even Beluga Vodka.
Chunks of Parm & Olives to start . Bread could be better, they should use Sullivan St Bakery for sure!
Buratta was warm and creamy over cherry tomatoes. Just delish! The most amazing app was their baked pasta!! A must at Cipriani!! Artichoke & Parm salad too!!
I had the special.. Dover Sole. Great tasting except for a few  bones.  Steak was good … All in all, a really nice meal.
Their signature dessert will have us coming back.  Huge mounds of vanilla gelato at perfect temp  Another large bowl of mouth -watering Tiramisu… Together a definite taste experience.
    Service was wonderful
    Great Atmosphere
    True dining at its Finest!

  8. The Quick: For a gala or wedding, this spot is perfect. It's over-the-top glamorous, historic, and big enough to fit huge groups of beautiful people. Note this review might be biased as I attended two black-tie events here. **Review for Cipriani Wall Street, will delete when at a computer**

The Details: For any type of classy affair, Cipriani is perfect. The waitstaff was amazing, the venue was gorgeous, the dance floor inviting, and the food (burrata) was actually great (even for a few hundred people). In terms of elegance, I found this place to be second only to the Plaza.

The Damage: $$$$ just hope to marry rich. (Here's hoping!)
