  1. 3.5 really.  Not my fave place for Indian but it's the closest to home,  the food is decent, staff is friendly and the space is a bit too dimly lit but spacious.

Usually suspects of Korma, Vidaloo, Tikka Masala, Biriyani and Matter are all solid but not mind blowing…

I find them to be too pricey though. Being that they are not near any transportation to get there easily, not off the main strip of Main Street and definitely not in Manhattan, so I question the Manhattan menu price tag.  I don't think I've spent less than $120 here for a fam of 4 take out.  Not even delivery.

  2. I always judge indian food by their chicken tikka massala (CTM).

This place gets my approval 🙂 HOWEVER.. I must say, it's on the pricey side. The CTM dish was ~20$.
Their mango lassi was also very good. Garlic bread was fresh and crispy and delish. Very pretty restaurant in a really nice location. It rained the day I visited… but I hear the views are spectacular!
I hope to come back for their buffet (I believe it's on Sundays).

  3. We came here for an engagement party and enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good. The service was excellent. The small complaints I do have are that it is easy to pass on Shore Rd. and the parking lot filled quickly. Otherwise I would come here again no issue. I can not comment on price since it was an event; hence only three stars for now. I plan to revisit and give a fuller review.

  4. I never thought I'd start a yelp review by emphasizing a restaurant's parking availability but after regularly driving for over a year, here it goes.

Diwan has ample parking which prevents the need to circle about like a dog trying to catch its own tail. I have never seen the private lot crowded and the fact that there is a private lot was one of the initial attractions.

Man cannot subsist on free parking alone, however glorious that may be. The curry's the thing that will catch the conscience of Diwan!

The interior is worth commenting about, however, it as it's downright pleasant. Poor lighting is nowhere to be found. Spacious tables are abundant and well spaced so as to prevent elbow bumping and eavesdropping on your fellow diners. I have literally seen staff cleaning the windows and dusting for any speck of filth that would ruin the pristine interior. Given the lunch buffet (which I almost always miss by about 30 minutes on Sundays) and the amount of time diners may spend here, it's refreshing to be in comfortable environs.

The background music of instrumental Indian is appropriate and doesn't disturb conversation. And there are few restaurants that are so close to a nearby dock that the yachting set can disembark and pop in for a curry, a phenomenon I've witnessed several times.

I can safely say that after two repeat orders I have become a strong saagwala supporter. Spinach was once viewed with suspicion by my younger self. Before I learned to express myself with complex sentences, yelling out "Yucky!" is how I'd describe spinach. With the passing of time and the need for healthier eating, a dish of essentially creamed spinach and chicken appeals to me. I could even give up the chicken and simply dine on the creamy yogurt fused spinach and call it a day. There isn't much heat to the dish which is fine by me. Your palette will enjoy the interplay of flavors, however, and your next meal will undoubtedly seem bland by comparison.

My saagwala must be joined by bread and for that I turn to a cheese kulcha. The cheese of choice is obviously paneer and the kulcha takes many dips into the saagwala.

Try as I may there will be leftovers because the portion size is perfect if you are starving. If you are not, you will have another portion for dinner tomorrow. Reheating the kulcha in a toaster oven can recreate some of the original quality.

So when you see prices that are in the high teens to low twenties, realize that you are paying for what is likely to be two servings. This is not a no frills hole in the wall menu only in Hindi establishment but rather a comfortable environment to properly dine in. I'll gladly pay a premium for parking, clean interior and absolutely delicious saagwala any day. In fact, I may go back today…

  5. We dined here with a group a few weeks ago.  The food was tasty, the service was good.  And that view!

  6. Came here duting Restaurant week.

Dinner pre fix was very filling and delicious.  Yhey had 3 options for each section.

I picked the Hummus with garlic Naan for Appetizer, my BF got a Samosa. The Hummus was Delicious and Yummy with tge Naan.

Second course got a Chicken Tikka Massala.  Along with Basmanti Rice and i order extra Naan to blend in the sauce.  The portion looked small but it filled me up and plenty of chunks of chicken swimming around the Masala sauce.

BF ordered a Lamb dish which was also delicious and
bit more citruscy.  Very creamy and the meat was not gamy at all.

Dessert was Rice pudding and Ice cream. It was good.

Service was very attentive. Super friendly.

I will come here for Lunch Buffett (Weekdays $13 and Weekend $16).

  7. I dined here with our dining group on 11/1/15. Diwan is in a very large and attractive space on the water. They have a very large parking lot which is a big deal in Port Washington. Our group enjoyed the reasonably priced buffet($15.99) which was set up on the second floor. The restaurant was very accommodating. They prepared separate checks for all eight people in our group.

The buffet consisted of about 10-12 stations. Unlike many buffets I have attended, the food was fresh tasting and hot, with observable steam coming out of the food when members returned to our table. I particularly enjoyed the mildly spiced Chicken Mahani with a tomato-based gravy which tasted delicious on the perfectly cooked Basmati Rice. The Vegetarian Curry, Goat Curry,Tandoori Chicken and Spinach were also very good. The rice pudding nicely completed a good meal. A minor complaint is that they only had Kingfisher Beer and failed to offer Taj Mahal, another excellent Indian beer. However they have a great selection of signature cocktails. One of them, my Coconut Martini, was incredibly delicious. Service was  attentive, with empty plates removed promptly.

I think Diwan would be a great introduction for newbies who are intimidated by trying Indian food. It is certainly a place that I would not hesitate to return to and sample their regular menu items.

  8. This is my favorite Indian restaurant on Long Island.

Diwan in Hicksville is good too, but not only is the food better here, but the ambiance is outstanding. You have a beautiful view of Port Washington to look at while dining. It's nicely decorated, and the employees are very nice and offer outstanding service. If you're in Port Washington, be sure to check out Diwan.
