I'm rarely harsh…but I'm gonna be harsh in the hopes that Don Juan's will read this and improve.
I brought my team here on a Tuesday after beach volleyball. Usually we'd head to the west end, but we decided to try something different.
It was dead, maybe 4 tables, relatively empty bar. A drastic difference from the lively spots on the west end. Borrrring.
It took 5 minutes for them to set us up a table, and another 5 minutes for the waitress to come over to us. We all ordered off their new Taco Tuesday menu, and got a couple buckets of beers.
It took about 10 minutes to get the beers…and then about 40 minutes to get the tacos. We were now in the restaurant over an hour. There is NO reason tacos should take this long. Especially on a slow night. Especially after plastering the neighborhood with flyers advertising your new promotion. Your kitchen should be ready to rock. I could have walked home, made the tacos, and brought them back faster than Don Juan's took to bring them to our table. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not.
There's a reason why The Cabana is THE taco/margarita spot in Long Beach. It's fun, it's quick, and it's cheap. No one wants to wait an hour for tacos at 10pm on a Tuesday.
I came here for the first time. It wasn't busy. The waitress was attentive and the food was good. We received complimentary chips and salsa when we got seated. We got two entrees: a chicken enchilada topped with cheese and green sauce, rice, beans, and guacamole, and a Maria Special which comes with steak, rice, black beans and avocado. Both dishes were flavorful. I liked the Maria Special more because the steak was marinated well and it was juicy.
I had a good experience there and would recommend it to a friend. I will definitely be coming back.
I came here on a Friday night with one of my girlfriends. It was really funny because we were having a girl's night and hubby was out with his brother for a guy's night. Both my girlfriend and brother-in-law live in this area. So I texted hubby to see if he wanted me to bring him home anything and when I walked in with my girlfriend voila! there was my hubby with brother-in-law finishing up their meal. It's a good thing I am not a cheater lol We said hello to hubby and than went to sit down and grab dinner ourselves.
The nacho chips were good but they weren't as salty as I would have liked them to be.
For my meal I had them make vegetable chimichangas. I've been into chimichangas lately and have been delighted that most Mexican places I visit agree to make them in veggie form for me to chow down on. I believe I might have gotten two small chimichangas. Don Juan is a smaller portion Mexican restaurant. Some Mexican restaurants make you a HUGE GIANT order of what you want to eat, or they make mini portions serving you two or three smaller items of your order. They were definitely good.
Since I crave Mexican 24/7 Don Juan, along with Cabana definitely seem like great Long Beach Mexican joints to eat at.
