  1. so hard to rate this place…..

This place is so 1980's Chinatown decor; this includes the waiter too!
We got very no help from the waiter when we asked about the "Chinese" menu. I just did not want to spend much time with us even when there were very little customers in the restaurant.
Fortunately my friends know the menu  well and helped order their specialites.

Their stir fry Preserved Plum Spare Ribs was unique and very tasty.
Everything else is typical Cantanese menu.

Since there was not a lot of customers on a Sunday afternoon we hungout a chatted for almost two hours without the waiter caring about us.

The place is not the best for food and service is meh but try it when your large group is hungry and can't get into the other places in the area.

  2. I've had the roasted duck and the boneless spare ribs numerous times as takeout. The quality has always been good.

  3. First it is a dive. I also think that the other reviews are pretty harsh. I had the Preserved Plum Spare Ribs, Fried Fish Fillet with tofu casserole and a noodle dish here and it was DELICIOUS. The stand out for sure was the Preserved Plum Spare Ribs which is a must try. I never had this dish anywhere else and I crave this dish everyday after I tried it at East Ocean Seafood restaurant. It was super memorable.

The service here is not the nicest…typical old fashioned Cantonese service….which is not the nicest or the most helpful. The guy basically threw us the Chinese menu and fend for your own attitude. We asked him what dishes are on the Chinese menu because we can't read it…he said..we have whatever is on the menu..HELLO we can't read it, as we said. Gosh. He didn't even bother to help us. Yes it's a bit nasty but MY GOD did I mention the Preserved Plum Spare Rib dish???!!!!! HOLY M of G!

I am not sure how I am going to get here again but I have to and I mean it…I have to have that spare rib dish again! As God as my witness….I have to have that dish again!

Preserved Plum Spare Rib=Waaaa Mui Pie Gwat (Cantonese)

  4. Vintage Cantonese restaurant located smack in the middle of the Ave U Chinatown! I haven't stepped foot into these old fashioned restaurants since I was a little kid so coming here today really brought back some great childhood memories :') Nonetheless, this place was not the cleanest and the service was not good. They were pretty attentive in terms of refilling the tea but they did not give off a friendly vibe at all. The food was decent though. We got:

Preserved plum spare ribs- This is what they are known for but I only found them to be average. In my opinion, they tasted pretty much like sweet and sour spare ribs. The only difference is that the sauce wasn't as orange.
Fried condensed milk with black pepper oysters- Weird combination…the fried milk was not the best I've had and I don't think black pepper is the best sauce to be paired with oysters.
Crispy skin chicken- Pretty good. The chicken wasn't dry nor was it excessively salty.
Fried pork intestines- YUM! But they taste good anywhere lol. Comes with a very tasty sauce on the side.

I'm not familiar with this neighborhood since I don't come to this area often so I wouldn't know if there are better alternatives within close proximity. However, the food at this place wasn't bad and it definitely won't break your wallet. Service could definitely be nicer but I guess it does add to the theme of old fashioned Cantonese restaurant…as does the rundown appearance of the restaurant…
