El Camion

“My all-time favorite here is the Huevos Diablos with a salad substitution for the home fries.”

“The Guacamole is on par with Rosa Mexicana and much better priced, and the dang Steak Quesidilla was very flavorful and the perfect consistency.”

“The fajitas and shrimp diablo are my favorite dishes here, but like I said, you can't go wrong with any of your decisions here.”

  1. So affordable! I recommend coming here with a group for brunch for that reason. I'd say it's less about the quality of the food itself and more about having a good time.

I recommend the huevos diablos (poached eggs over their cornbread with a spicy hollandaise).

The margaritas are good, nothing out of this world.

  2. Came here for brunch once and had a pleasant time here. Came on a weekend with some friends when it wasn't busy so we were seated right away.
I ordered huevos benedictos and bloody mary (the meal comes with a coffee and/or drink). My friends ordered a different dish and enjoyed their meal as well.
The portion is pretty decent and price is reasonable. It was only $10 for my meal including the drink that comes with it. Food was delicious!!!
I suggest getting the diablo or benedicto…the poached eggs were on point.

  3. El Camion is one of my favorite spots for brunch in NYC and I've been here many times with different groups of friends.  I don't know where in NYC you can get a delicious entrée, unlimited coffee, and an alcoholic drink all for just $10.  Yes, you read right. $10 and no strings attached.

I always get the Huervos Diablos, because I love the spicy food, and this is no joke.  I always end up chugging water or my drink because it's so good it hurts.  I've also had the Huervos Rancheros and the Huervos

The coffee is really good and strong and the best part is they keep refilling your cup.
As for the drinks, I'm always torn between the epic Bloody Mary and the margaritas. The Bloody Mary is fully stacked with lime, celery, spicy rim, AND bacon and is delicious.  I've also had the Blood Orange, Tamarind, Mango and Guava margaritas and they were all equally so good.

I have only a few complaints about this place.  One is that they don't take reservations for brunch, and they don't start serving alcohol until 12 because of New York law.  So even if you go right when they open at 10:30am on the weekends, you can't get an alcoholic drink until 12, and they won't let you sit that long since there is always such a long wait at this place.  Another is that the service is relatively slow from the servers for the wait time for the food to come out.  However, really nothing beats this inclusive $10 brunch! I'll keep coming back for sure!

  4. $10 for a decent brunch portion, coffee, and a margarita? I felt like I was getting away with robbery at El Camion, but 'tis true, and 'twas very satisfying.

Our group of five got seated immediately on a Saturday around 11:30, despite the restaurant was already at near capacity. I had a bit of time before arriving to scope out the menu, so I knew immediately that I was ordering the huevos diablos. For the price, I had low expectations of what was to come, but hey, I'm not gonna complain when the drinks are as strong as they were here.

Much to my surprise, the huevos diablos were pretty darned great, regardless of price. Essentially an eggs benedict but with carnitas, cornbread muffins, and a chipotle hollandaise, the dish was decadent, lightly spicy, and honestly cooked very well. The eggs were on point, the carnitas were tender, the cornbread was a great substitution for the traditional english muffin (and had a fantastic crust), and the sauce brought some heat without being overbearing. I more or less abandoned the home fries that came with the huevos, but the couple I tried were solid.

I realized upon stepping inside that I had once been to El Camion for lunch several years ago, but it was nothing special (especially the $6 guac). That being said, this ended up being one of the better brunches I've had in the Village area, and not just because it was a steal. If I'm ever around early enough, I'll be happy to return and try some other dishes (or not and stick with the diablos)!

  5. I loved this place.  It was a fun place to go.  Of course I filled up on the chips and salsa.  I loved the margaritas.  I had a chicken burrito and it was very fulling.  The atmosphere was fun and they have a nice bar to hang out if there is a wait.

  6. This place loses a star for charging 6$ for a ridiculously small portion of guacamole. Could've made a whole pot full of guac at home for the price. Anyway, the chips and salsa that come with each table is good. Works up your appetite for the main meal. Ended up getting the hanger steak entree. Comes with side salad and yucca fries. Yucca fries were awesome! Hanger steak was a little salty for my taste but otherwise marinated well and cooked to a medium rare. Side salad was not impressive. Just some mixed greens with dressing. Apparently their margaritas are good but didn't get to try. Will come back if in the neighborhood again.

  7. Ordered the Huevos Diablos Eggs Benedict.  Chewed on a big piece of eggshell that I couldn't seem to get rid of.  My whole mouth became gritty.  It was terrible.  The eggs were also overcooked (so much for an Eggs Benedict).  So disappointed.

  8. Came here on a saturday night at 830 with a group – reservation. The place is really small and pretty dark but they were able to accommodate groups of 6 and looked like there were some bigger parties. Their guac and chips are UNREAL. Guac comes in a pretty small bowl and chips come in a cute little pail. I split chicken quesadillas with a friend and it was enough with the guac and chips and drinks. COCONUT PINEAPPLE FROZEN MARGARITA IS A MUST!!!!! Didnt love the quasadilla, I dont liek when red sauce drips out of my quesadilla or shredded chicken but wasnt the worst thing I ever ate. Friends got the salad and fajitas and all were into it. Cute date spot or GNO
