The positive reviews of this place are fueled by a burning desire for decent Mexican in Riverdale and a lack of decent options. Change the location of this place, and it would be done in a week or two. The reviewer who said it is a bad chinese place masquerading as an even worse mexican restaurant could not have stated it better. This isn't good food; It just fills a void for cheap mexican in the neighborhood.
Authentic Mexican? HELL TO THE NO. The people working there are Chinese. I've noticed that Chinese Mexican places are kinda common in New York…I guess as a Connecticut native I'm not supposed to get it, and that's fine.
It's cheap and the food is ready relatively fast. All I ever order are the steak nachos for $6 and change..which are still crispy after a 10 minute walk home. One day I might switch it up and try something different, but so far the nachos are pretty decent. If I have one complaint, it's that the steak is a little overdone.
Tip: you can avoid their $10 card minimum by ordering takeout on Grubhub.
If you want a step up in quality and authenticity…go around the corner to Metate…otherwise walk in expecting food about as Mexican as Taco Bell.
