  1. A decent Taiwanese Resturant that you might just walk right by if you're in the flushing area. It's tucked away and it's really easy to miss. The food does the job, nothing spectacular but hits the spot. I got the sacha beef over rice and hot and sour soup. Both were 6 bucks! Great deal, can't complain there. Presentation of the dish was short of misleading because it looks like you get a lot of food but the foundation is mostly vegetable but the quantity makes up for it. The hot and sour soup I ordered was enormous and far larger than I expected. A good surprise.

    —About the service—
Very friendly servers. They don't speak much English so it might be hard to communicate but they're quite friendly. A thing I noticed about this resturant is it's extremely dim white lights. Not very good for pictures and sort of makes you sleepy…

Overall, there's comparable restaurants in the area so you have options but if you're hungry and just want hang out with friends and eat, this is the place to go.

  2. Classic hole-in-the-wall Taiwanese restaurant that serves great food. The interior isn't the fanciest, but you don't come to these kinds of restaurants for the atmosphere.

The menu here is huge so try not to get intimidated. They have really affordable lunch specials that taste great. I normally get the taiwanese pork chop over rice and the portion size is just huge. The amount of rice they place on the plate can feed three people. The dish consists of a savory taiwanese pork chop, a whole tea egg and some cabbage. For dinner I like their two entree and one soup deal. There are loads to choose from but I prefer the pork intestine and the taiwanese pan fried noodle.

I think this a great place to try some delicious taiwanese food so definitely stop by!

  3. Not sure if this restaurant is under new management, but the Taiwanese food I've had from here recently tastes so different from what I've tried years ago. Portion sizes in some of the photos that I have seen seem to have dwindled. The white plate(as pictured) that is used for some dishes is way too large for the portions that Gu-Shine/Ku-Shiang serves. Scientific studies show that eating from larger plates tricks the brain into thinking that you are eating smaller servings depending on the amount of food on the plate. Maybe it was for artistic appeal, but I left feeling hungrier than I actually was.

  4. Three cups chicken is not as good as it used to be anymore! abit disappointed, chicken was not served at claypot, very little basils added hence lack of herb fragrance, and it was very salty!
Service is still the same, quick and minimal.
2 entrees and a soup is $24, each additional entree is $11

  5. I've been coming here literally since I was born. My parents came here often before my brother and I were born. So when we were little, my parents would bring us every weekend. We became very good friends with the (ex) owner, who is absolutely lovely.

This restaurant is super yummy, one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants in Flushing. Eating here always makes me happy because I feel like I'm in Taiwan again. Plus, they have a pretty good lunch deal.

However, over the years, I can feel that the quality and taste of the food is becoming more disappointing, and actually becoming more expensive. So I don't go as often anymore. Some of the foods that were on the menu for years were even taken off because of the change. It's a shame really. At least the service is still good, probably because it's a small restaurant to manage, and the food comes out super fast.

  6. Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Living in Brooklyn, I had high expectations for all Chinese food in Flushing. They all had to be better than Brooklyn and Chinatown. Moreover, I like Taiwanese food, and my friend and I have been in Taiwan ourselves.

We ordered a beef noodle soup, smelly fried tofu and a pork + egg rice. They were all super disappointing!! The smelly tofu looked like rubber and there weren't stinky enough 😉 The beef noodle soup was the worst. They screwed this up in the worst possible way — the noodle was way undercooked. It's way too chewy and tasted rubbery. The rice with pork + egg was the best dish. The pork was a bit too fatty and the sauce wasn't right. The egg was done ok.

TL;dr I won't come again. The food was just bad and there are a lot of other options in Flushing.

  7. This is an update from my review a couple years ago.  The quality of the food has gone down, the portions are now smaller, and the prices have gone up by 10-15 percent.  I ordered from the special prix fixe menu where you get 2 dishes and a soup for $24 as well as another dish a la carte.  I picked the Pork Liver Soup and the three dishes chosen were Sauteed Snail with Basil, Sauteed String Bean and the Double Sauteed Pork (Pork Belly).  My order total was $42 for 2 people which I thought was very pricey for Flushing given the disappointment in the food.

  8. I was pretty disappointed with my Pork Chop dish =(  I've been on the hunt for a place to replace 66's pork chop dish and this place just doesn't compare.  Our food took forever to come, we weren't asked what we wanted to order and we just stood around waiting for them to seat us.  I don't really mind the lack of service if the food is good, but if the food is bad, then it matters.

The pork had no taste and they didn't even serve the dish with a knife.  They served the dish with a spoon.   The egg was really rubbery and tasted like it was siting around for a while.  The veggies were so so.

I won't be back.  Maybe we ordered the wrong thing…I don't understand why this place has such good reviews.
