  1. Hale and Hearty make really tasty soups, salads, and sandwiches, and they're a really good corporate lunch staple. This location is fit out nicely with big windows on 49th St. That said, its also very narrowly laid out, so do get in nice and cozy with your neighbors.

This location is on par with other H&H's with consistent food, fast service, and pricing. There is almost no seating here, which is a shame since its such a pretty location. Oh well.

  2. Delicious soups that taste as fresh as you can get, followed by sandwiches and made-to-order salads. Watch out around lunch time, but this place is definitely worth a trip!

You can sample any of the soups, and as many as you'd like. I had the shrimp bisque with half a turkey, apple, brie sandwich. A small soup and the half sandwich is just under $9. Both were delicious and there was tons of crab in the soup. An extra bonus was that there were no mystery shell pieces present.

My friend had the curried chicken soup with half a roasted turkey sandwich and it was also delicious. Full of vegetables and not too spicy.

I wish locations were open a bit later for second rounds for dinner, but as most close around 6pm you can plan ahead and enjoy.

  3. Everyone at work brags about this place, so I had to go. It's literally a block away, next to Gregory's, Dunkin Donuts and Food World. I must have walked by Hale & Hearty so many times and just haven't noticed at all. The store itself is pretty nice, but a little small.

There wasn't too big of a line for lunch, which was really nice. At my company, you usually don't take lunch. After all, we work in NYC, the city that never sleeps, we can't afford 1 hour lunches away from our desk! Anyway, I ended up getting the half sandwich and half soup. They allow you to sample the soups which is really nice. I tried the Butternut Squash and immediately fell in love with it. Got my soup picked out. As for the sandwich, I went for a classic, turkey with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. Can't really mess that up.

Not a big fan of the service here. The guy taking my order was trying to be funny, but it didn't really work out. I asked for the half soup-half sandwich combo and he said it would be $10. I looked at him and I said "You mean $7? The sign says $7." He just ended up laughing. The combo was actually $7 when it was rung up by the cashier. It was just a weird experience.

I got back to my desk and as always, ate while typing away at my computer. The soup was still delicious, but a lot heavier now that I had a half a cup of soup. That by itself was filling for me. One thing I was disappointed with was my lack of crackers. They include this big bag of crackers in with your soup and I didn't get one. Sad too because the crackers were good and they went well with the butternut squash (my co-worker had some and shared with me). The sandwich was at best mediocre. Granted, I got something simple, but that doesn't mean it should taste bland. One thing I suggest is that they heat up their sandwiches. Mine was a bit cold and it would've appealed to me much more if it was just a tad warmer.

Overall, it's a decent place to go for lunch. Not a long line, which is what makes it really attractive in my opinion. Prices are decent and the soup is good. Might come back again to try more of their soups. And hopefully they'll remember my crackers…

  4. my all time favorite lunch spot. the soups, sandwiches, salads and even the rice krispy treats are delish…love it

  5. Sandwiches are meh, and this location has no toaster to warm it up if you want. A soup & sandwich shop…without a toaster???? Lame!

  6. Best salad to go place for me!
Fresher ingredients and better service than Chop't and Just Salad!
No line or only short line around lunch time.

  7. Great options for gluten-free diners, such as myself.  Had the 10-vegetable soup and it was tasty and delicious.

  8. Found this when I was craving soup on a chilly September day. Immediately fell in love with the amount of choices… and the tastes. This is one of my lunch staples when I eat out. I have yet to be disappointed!
