  1. I've been to many sushi restaurants (authentic and non-authentic) that they've become an afterthought. When I think of dining in the Lower East Side on Rivington Street, I usually think Spanish food (at least prior to the area gentrification).

So when we went to Hana for a sushi dinner, I wasn't too optimistic if the food would be good (since the area is mostly known for bars serving food).

The restaurant is small (but spaciously arranged), dimly lit and modern "Zen" like cozy.

The food items are a bit pricier but the sushi/sashimi and Chirashi dishes are fresh and very good. The service was attentive and friendly.

Not sure if this means anything, but after paying the check and leaving the restaurant, we walked by the El Castillo De Jagua restaurant (which is next door) and thought that we should've had Spanish food instead.

  2. The setting is nice here. I stopped in for a late lunch and was seated immediately. The rolls (crunchy shrimp, spicy salmon) were meaty BUT I couldn't handle the spice and somehow ended up with two spicy salmon rolls instead of just one. I ate three pieces before giving up. The crunchy shrimp was awesome. The miso soup was great!

Value: for lunch it makes sense.

  3. Came here for lunch on a Sunday. Not too crowded and the food came pretty fast. They time it so everything comes out at the same time and not whatever's finished cooking first. Prices are pretty good for sushi/rolls and they are tasty but don't seem that fresh. The waitress staff is friendly, and remembers the regulars I was with. Food is very mediocre, but for the price you won't find much cheaper.

  4. Just wandered by and thought sushi sounded good. It can be hit or miss on the road. This was a hit big time.

I've never seen an all vegetarian menu and people seem to love it.

The miso soup was good and fresh and no flies thank god.

But, I had a roll with tempura shrimp, eel, avocado and cucumber that was the best roll I've ever had. Fresh and loaded with texture.

Service was quick and nice. Had a big beer which was way too much. I'd recommend this spot and I'd come back for sure!

  5. This place is pretty quiet. I think dinner is decent priced, but I LOVE their lunch menu. Their lunch specials are super affordable and super worth it!!

  6. I went on a Friday afternoon around 3PM and it was fairly empty.

I had the Beef Teriyaki Bento Box and was surprised by the quality of the food and the total cost.

The california rolls tasted great.  The side salad was amazing, especially because most places just give you crap.  The dressy was flavorful.  The beef teriyaki was also surprisingly high quality.  The beef was succulent and the teriyaki sauce was flavorful, but not overwhelming.  It was cooked perfectly.

I also had edamame and that was ok.

    The service was fine.

  7. This place is what the typical restaurant should be in terms of service, atmosphere, food and price.

To start off the place is well maintained with plenty of staff. Clean throughout the dining and restroom spaces. Plenty of walking room, proper indoor temperature and lighting.

Service was great with the waiter giving her name and helping with suggestions. Better yet when I asked for extra pickled ginger, she came back with a hands full. Way more than any normal person can eat but the gesture was appreciated.

Food was delicious, starting with miso soup with plenty of tofu. Nice sized salad (bigger than most others with plenty of dressing). Rice was warm and good portion, chicken nagimaki which not scolding hot, delicious and very filling. Sushi is fresh and slightly cooler then room temperature (not cold) and shrimp dumplings where pretty warm and flavorful.

Price, for all the above, 12$. Honestly what more can you ask for ??

5/5 because I can't complain about anything. Would recommend if you want Japanese food for lunch with or without company.

  8. dude, were you expecting Jiro to jump out from the kitchen and shout 'PSYCH!!'

no. thats not going to happen.

I come here for the super cheap lunch specials, and thats pretty much it. 3 rolls for $11 USD? I'm sold! and very full.

Don't expect anything quality, or anything amazing here. However, the service here is rather lovely. When you start coming regularly enough, the girls will get to know you and everyone gets a little friendlier, and a little nicer.

The decor is nice if you're into 'asiany' styles. The fake bamboo, the dim lights, and the 'youre in the thickets' theme is a little too asiany for me. But i'm not here for the ambiance. I am here for some cheapo rolls.
