Hinata Ramen

“Hinata's vegan ramen is far superior to Ippudo's. Get it with vegan noodles, fried tofu, and a $1 side of spicy sauce.”

“The wavy noodles are cooked to al dente perfection so they have toothiness and bite a la proper Italian pasta.Oh chicken broth is on point as well.”

“It's no Totto, Ippudo, Misoya or Minca, but it's a solid dish and allows you to pick thin or thick noodles, which I appreciate.”

  1. My wife and I were walking down the street and felt a chill. Earlier this morning it was 70 degrees and tonight is probably about 60 degrees and soup was in the air. We yelped for a ramen place and found this one. My wife and I both ordered ramen soup with the squiggly noodles and it was delicious. The broth with piping hot and yummy. It came with a side of seaweed dried seaweed that we added to our soups which game and even more flavor. Then we ordered the pork dumplings which came in a hot sizzling metal plate so when you looked at the dumplings they were crispy on the bottom side excellent taste

  2. What a hidden gem! The broth is absolutely delicious! I recommend the paitan pork with wavy noodles!  The lotus chips are also pretty good! As for dessert just get the almond pudding it's yummy!

The star deduction is for service, don't think the server liked us very much… Maybe he was just having a bad day.. But we weren't even rowdy.. He also forgot one of our orders when we reminded him twice.

All in all I'll be back for the ramen and broth! It was that good!!!

  3. Summer is here- my bf and I were excited to see what the new seasonal special is.
(My BF was sad to see the Yuzu ramen gone)

Hinata now offers Hiyashi Chuka (which is chilled ramen noodles topped off with various veggies and meat, served with a refreshing vinegar-y sauce) and a Cold Spicy Noodle.
I tried the hiyashi chuka- served with tomatoes, bean sprouts, egg, cucumber and either shredded pork or chicken, it was a huge meal- their dressing was really refreshing and you don't get tired of the taste.
Perfect for a hot day! (p.s. Hinata was nice and air conditioned :))

  4. Menu is pretty straightforward, choice of ramen which is the highlight and specialty of this restaurant. Tasty broth and  generous portions. $14.50/ bowl. Take note its Cash only.

  5. Admittedly, I have yet to try the ramen although my lunch mate seems to like the ramen well enough.  I'm more of a salmon and salmon roe donburi (rice bowl) fan and I've had it almost every time I'm here.  The place is a couple blocks from my office and the times that I need an escape from my desk I meet him for lunch and I'm grateful for this little spot.  It's not only convenient but it's actually pretty good.  I'm usually there after the lunchtime rush which ensures seating and full attention of the server.  Otherwise, be prepared for a bit of a wait.  We usually order a gyoza and karaage (fried chicken) to share as appetizers and they're standards by which good Japanese restaurants should be judged.  It's also a little hidden for it's a few steps off of Third on 55th St and down from street level.  Decent Japanese fare for an escape or rendezvous.  It's cash only but the ATM is right outside the door.

  6. More like a 3.5 star ramen place, given the fact that there are so many good ramen places around (Totto, hide-chan, Nishidasho-den, etc).

We ordered the chicken broth ramen with hard boiled egg added. Their straight noodle was able to absorb the soup base completely so very flavorful there; however I felt like their soup base was less creamy to begin with…Also, expect to add more extra toppings.

Cash only place, taking away the 0.5 star. I would only expect an outstanding place to ask for cash-only privilege. Sorry.

  7. It's a small place half-subterranean. The employees here are all Japanese.

We ordered two bowls of ramen, both were good. The soups were on the heavier side, but I think it's just a taste preference people have. I really like to drink all the soup with my ramen without feeling like I have to drink a gallon of water later from the salt.

In any case, the ramen is over $10 but it's a good size. You get to choose the type of noodles you want. Straight, wavy, etc. You can also make your own ramen, but all the ingredients add up and you'll pay a lot more for the bowl.

I got one of the ramen that had corn and ground pork and pork belly. Delicious! Also a bit spicy. I also got to try the vegetarian ramen which is not bad either.

I suggest not coming during prime lunch hour, as this is an office area. You will be waiting.

  8. It was very quiet on the night that we came, which was perfect because we were catching up with friends. it's a cash only place, but they have an ATM in the store, if you're caught without.

We got the lotus chips to start, which we felt were greasy. The crispy chicken skin was also greasy, but duh. Between the four of us we got Yasai, Nikumiso, and Tsukemen ramen. We all enjoyed it and felt that the portions were big. I loved the wavy noodles.

My husband got the plum wine, which was delicious. My plum cocktail was also very nice. I will definitely go back.
