Homemade Taqueria

“There was cilantro, limes, guacamole salsa, salsa verde, pico de gallo, and onions.”

“The tortas are on larger rolls than you would get on a taco cart so that is a plus.”

“I wish they would deliver a bit further to Ridgewood (they seem to only deliver to Maspeth), but it's definitely worth the trek.”

  1. After coming out of a Homemade Taqueria Food Coma, I do declare this is one of the very best Fresh and Authentic tasting Mexican food restaurants here in the Western part of Queens that I've ever eaten at since my last visit to Mexico and that was many, many moons ago.

Both my family and I all agree that authenticity, freshness, flavor, taste, price, very pleasant and welcoming customer service makes Homemade Taqueria a solid 5 stars with us all being repeat customers.

Our Menu Choices & thoughts are noted below…

We all shared the Crispy Nacho's with two meats options which consisted of Tender Steak Strips & Mexican Sausage – all of this Crispy corn tortillas goodness coated with refried beans, melted Monterrey cheese, served with lettuce, pico de gallo and jalapenos, perfectly tender Steak strips and nicely seasoned Mexican sausage came together so deliciously and with a spicy kick on the end bite! This dish is a hit and must try.

Al Pastor Torta – One of my son's favorite sandwiches and definitely a reorder for him – what did it for him was that extra touch of sweetness from the chopped pineapples that is added in with marinated grilled diced pork cooked with onions and & Mexican Cheese, a nice Umami flavor on your palate. Try This for sure.

Burrito's here are a hit, They're Big and filled up just right…

Steak & Mushroom Burrito is a solid 5 –  tender steak, nice juicy mushrooms, rice beans, light Monterrey jack cheese, sour cream, homemade salsa all wrapped up in a warm soft and fresh Tortilla whats not to love about that!

Vegetarian Burrito was the very best I have ever had thus far and consisted of fresh green crunchy sweet peppers, onions, jalapenos (my request – I like it hot), rice, beans, light Mexican cheese, mushrooms, homemade salsa – with each bite different flavors of the veggies came bursting through; very palate pleasing and quite satisfying. If your a vegetarian or struggling to make the switch this burrito will have you singing the praises of how great vegetables can taste all wrapped up in one of these Fresh warm flour Tortilla's!

The fresh Guacamole and chips are very good, however was missing what I took to be a little bit more lemon, I grabbed a wedge from their Salsa Bar, squeezed some lemon juice into the guacamole added a pinch of salt and we were all good to go after that.

The Grilled tilapia fish Taco was my least favorite and that could be because my 1st time here I took this to go and by the time I arrived home and got ready to eat the fish itself was cold and very bland tasting although fresh tasting, this fish needs some seasoning to bring out the flavor. I might try this again but only if I eat in and no more take out for this.

For thirst quenchers I had the Iced Hibiscus Tea which was refreshing and lightly sweetened and my boys had both the Horchata & Oats Milkshake with the Oats milkshake being the preferred drink and both my boys felt the need to add sugar to sweeten it up a tad bit more.
For the health conscious the drinks are lightly sweetened so this might just be perfect for you.

The Decor is bright and cheerfully colored so you feel a happy sort of peaceful calmness while you dining in or waiting for your take out, seating is ample but I could see this getting crowded as they're popularity grows so for now I'm loving it! The hospitality your shown and greeted with has been very warm and welcoming on the few times I've come here thus far.

    What Else….

Do not Leave here without checking out their Salsa Bar, the best Sauces is the dark green one – its very spicy and Hot & the Guacamole sauce (Yum) and don't forget to pick up a few lemon wedges and cilantro too!

My new favorite Mexican spot and Lest I forget to mention the prices are excellent!

Homemade Taqueria is a family owned and operated by a lovely couple so come out and support your local small businesses.

  2. Great home style Mexican food! We ordered fish tacos, shrimp tacos, steak tacos, children's chicken quesadilla, rice and beans and guacamole. Everything was freshly made and tasted delicious. The fish and shrimp tacos had a kick due to the sauce; I will ask for the sauce on the side next time (and there will definitely be a next time!) My son really enjoyed the quesadilla and the chips – he even said it was better than Taco Bell (which is his absolute favorite at the moment; give him a break, he's only 3!) Fast, friendly service in a clean restaurant. We were able to find parking easily in the area. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu.

  3. Got delivery for lunch today and was good overall, but I think it may be better to eat there, OR try other things on the menu. It's quite an extensive menu.

-Ordered Al Pastor tacos, and grilled tilapia tacos. Neither had much flavor. Very bland. I expected a lot more from the pork in particular — what special sauce/blend are they using? And where are the pineapples? I tasted nothing. And the meat was a bit chewy.

    -Salsa was spicy
-Large guacamole was delicious! But it's hard to give me a guacamole that I didn't like.
-Generous with their chips. Gave us two bags full of them.
-Kid's cheeseburger/fries : burger was bigger than I expected. I only ate half!

Fast service: I live close by, so it only took about 20 minutes for the food to actually arrive.

When I go in person, I would like to try the burritos and sandwiches. Maybe give the tacos another chance, but they are already simple in nature, and if the meat isn't tender and there isn't any kind of flavor, then it's pointless.

  4. I tried with place on a whim for dinner with my mom and two aunts. Thank you Yelp! We had a large guacamole with chips for an appetizer ($7). This was hands down the BEST guacamole I have ever tasted in my entire life! It was fresh and had the right amount of zest. We practically scraped the container to eat every last bit of it. Combo #2 with steak was also delicious ($8.95). It came with a steak taco, steak tostada, and steak quesadilla. Additionally, the chicken platter was a generous portion and came with rice and beans ($9.95). Lastly, the chicken enchilada was tasty but the green sauce was a little too spicy for us. ($9.95) It might be better to request it on the side. Overall, we would come here again!

  5. Nice tightly wrapped steak and mushrooms burritos. Personally ordered without the beans so kitchen packed in extra rice (a plus imo).

Tortas on nice soft bread. May be a personal preference but buns in other places always feel dry, hence stale. Also nicely wrapped so it's not falling apart as you eat.

Guacamole is a steal here. $7 for guacamole packed tight into a aluminum container (when ordering take out). Comes with bag of crispy chips.

Nachos was a bit disappointing. Not different independent layers combined harmoniously. More like a baked mass of cheese, steak, chips and beans.

Salsa sauce is unique. It's a bit more puree than your normal salsa sauce. Taste is wonderful, but texture of baby food?

Self serve sauce bar is excellent. Verde sauce has a nice spicy kick. Always grab a few extra to dump onto everything.

  6. I'm lucky to live close to here and can just walk over for takeout.

Their food is excellent and the prices are recentable.
Both the tortas and burritos are delicious.

Favorite are the tacos and tortas.

  7. Holy crap!!!  This ain't no wannabe Mexican joint.  This is full on, no joke, authentic Mexican and I think I'm in love!

I can't review the dine-in experience because I've only ordered delivery.  The delivery time was quick and exactly on time.  I don't live exactly that close, but not really far either.  I am a bit off the beaten path and they found me with no problems.  The delivery guy left a lot to be desired.  No hello, no smile, nothing.  Just handed me the bag and literally ran away.  Oh well.  Food came packed well, with lots of sauces that I didn't even request and was at the proper temperature.

Now for the food.  Oh my…the food!!!  I've eaten from quite a few authentic Mexican spots but this one definitely has to be my favorite.  The prices are wallet friendly and they have a great selection.  They are vegetarian friendly.  They don't have lame veggie options either.  No throw away sauteed canned and/or frozen vegetables.  They use fresh, delicious and meaty portobello mushrooms.  The mushroom taco was kind of soggy, but that's the only complaint I have about the food.  The burrito is the best burrito I've ever had from anywhere!!  Mushroom and avocado, rice and beans.  Usually with burritos they'll fill the entire freaking thing with rice but this one had the proper amount.  Everything was equally rationed and so creamy and mouth-watering!  The creamy guacamole sauce hit the spot!  The hot salsa roja and super spicy salsa verde were also very good.  The quesadilla was also spot on.  Big, but not too big.  Nice and crisp tortilla.  Not in the usual tex-mex style but a true quesadilla.  The torta was amazing as well.  A little messy the way they packaged it but fine nonetheless.  As with all real Mexican spots, they throw radish, onion, cilantro and lime wedges with everything.  I love Mexican but I'm one of those people who despises cilantro.  The food here is so amazing that I totally didn't mind the cilantro taste.  That says a lot!

Homemade Taqueria is going to be my new delivery spot.  Food is fresh, delicious and filling.  Not a greasy mess.  Next I'll have to have a dine-in experience.  HIGHLY recommend!!!

  8. This place offers high value for the costs. Seemingly quality simple ingredients with reasonable seasonings creates an authentic touch of Mexican cooking not commonly found in new york.

The mexican steak plater was cooked with crispy edges and tender sweet insides.
    Large guacamole was satisfying.
Spicy pork taco with pineapple and onion was very tasty. I would have ordered another if I had the room in my belly.

The salsa bar made the visit a little more fun.
