I coppi di Matilda

“Not just fusion in terms of, both are on the menu – but they integrate flavors from both cuisines into each and every dish.”

“My dining experience ended with both my friend and I stuffed, happy and eager to return for Matilda's unique combo Tusc-Mex cuisine.”

“The ones that didn't pop quite like the rest are the gnocchi and tamalitos vegetarianos.”

  1. Came here for brunch and it was delightful. For $12.50, you get an entree, coffee, and a cocktail. The place was quiet. We had it to ourselves and we were never rushed. In fact, the service was kinda slow. The waiter also never brought us coffee (which I didn't really want anyway) and forget our order of guacamole, which he then comped (that was nice and appropriate). The guac was mixed with basil which gave it a unique taste. It was enjoyable.

I ordered the pasta with calamari and proscuitto. The sauce was flavorful and creamy. The calamari pieces were tiny and the proscuitto was diced. Overall, I was a fan of the dish. I also liked the "Matilda," their version of a mimosa: prosecco and mango. The mango pieces were quite large and chunky. That didn't bother me: I like pulp. A nice, inexpensive, no frills place to brunch.

  2. Italian and Mexican fusion sounds absolutely strange, but it works.

I loved my spaghetti with calamari – it had pico de gallo too, which sounds really strange with a pasta dish, but it was delicious.

My only complaint is for $16, I expected a heaping plate, not the small portion I got. Service was good, however it's a little out of the way to get to.

  3. Scoutmob saves the day once again, yesss.

1.) Guacamole – very delicious with some hints of basil and rosemary.
2.) Make your own tortilla pizza – $1 per topping (including mushrooms, spinach, chicken, etc.)

Overall was just alright, nothing out of the ordinary. Didn't sense a very strong italian/ mexican vibe. Waiter was nice, food came out relatively fast.

  4. Super cute restaurant with delicious food!

I came with a large group of people and they were able to accommodate all our requests and never rushed us out. The owners are super nice and the food is amazing! I had the prosciutto quesadilla and the guacamole (which they make with basil) and both were great. We also tried a number of other appetizers and everything was just as good.

Service is great, the drinks did the trick and they played fun music. You can't go wrong with this place!

  5. When I first heard Mexican Italian, I thought. This could either be very bad or really good. Turns out it was the latter.  I got the Pappardelle Al Ragu Di Coda  and it was great.

  6. Me and a friend got a Gilt voucher for this restaurant.  The deal was $57 for one app, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert.  We got the guacamole with basil as an app.  It was good, and the basil was an interesting twist, but not the best guac I've ever had.  As and entree my friend got the whole wheat goat cheese ravioli with some kind of mushroom-corn sauce.  It was really good!  I got a tortilla pizza with chicken and jalapeños.  The tortilla definitely could have been A LOT crisper.  It was kind of soggy.  For dessert we got the tequila tiramisu.  It was DELICIOUS!  The best part of the meal!  Side note:  I also got a prosecojito while waiting for my friend.  Obviously a mojito made with proseco.  It was SO good!    I probably wouldn't go again, but would tell people to give it a shot.  I would recommend trying one of the entrees that people talk most about on yelp.

  7. Bought the Gilt deal for 6 people ($165) which included four appetizers, six entrees, three deserts and two bottles of wine.  A great deal.  It's supposed to be a $288 value, to which that is the amount you will be charged tax and tip.
Went with five people for mother's day dinner/birthday dinner celebrations.

Food:  GREAT! Their guacamole is just amazing.  They add fresh basil to the recipe and it really pops.  The appetizers that come to the table, are automatically chosen by management.  We had the spinach and cheese quesadilla, steak tacos and a mushroom/truffle bruchetta.  It was great!  A nice tasting for us all.  However, they should really ensure that there is enough for each person to taste, being that it's a tasting menu.  The bruchetta didn't have enough for the table.  Entrees were a few selections from the menu.  I had the chicken and rice, husband had the chicken fajitas…others got the shrimp fajitas, the lasagna and the oxtail ragout. Desert was also chosen for us, we had a molten chocolate lava cake, churros with chocolate dipping sauce and their version of tiramisu.  All of the food was great.  It was fresh, flavorful…not greasy, light and full of fresh herb flavor.  Oh for the sixth dish we got the matilda salad for the table to share.

Decor:  The walls are pink, which I love…skulls and ikea like furniture ensure the place.  I am not too keen on the decor.  I though the bathroom looked the best.

Staff:  Amazing.  They were so sweet and patient.  They also were okay with me pointing out that they overcharged us and did not calculate the bill correctly.  The tax on a $288 bill is $25.20, plus there were extra drinks on the tab to which we should have only been charged $61.20.  They charged me $201! No way in hell! I was charged extra for the salad, which I had to explain was part of the six entrees that I paid for in the Gilt Deal.  I had to go over the bill and have it recalculated.  We of course, left the tip on the whole $288 tab, that is the right thing to do. I was a little peeved that they didn't know the details to the Gilt deal and they did not take their time in calculating the check.

All in all, we had a good time.  The menu was great.  The food was fresh and good.  My rating was for overall experience, not necessarily the food alone.  Try it out!

  8. My friend Nick has been raving about Matilda for about 2 years so I decided to make a reservation here for dinner for a group of 8 (and easily made a reservation on opentable the day of). Unfortunately I was completely underwhelmed by my experience here.  The margaritas were the worst I have ever tasted and our table sent them back for mojitos (which tasted much better in comparison).  For dinner I ordered the quesadilla, while others ordered the tortilla pizza, the ravioli, fajita, and salmon dishes.  My quesadilla lacked any flavor and was way too small.  The salmon, my friends said was pretty un-edible.

The wait staff was very nice and patient with us and they were willing to easily split our check.  Unfortunately I will probably never come back here because the food was just not that tasty and definitely not worth the price.
