This is one of the only grocery stores on the West side Chelsea area in Manhattan, past 7th Avenue. Yes, it'd be nice to have a Fairway, a Whole Foods, or a Trader Joe's closer to the Highline, on 8th or 9th Avenue, but there aren't… So, I have been resorting to Ideal Marketplace for my last minute shopping needs. It's a relatively big supermarket with produce, snacks, cleaning supplies, and even a deli section right by the entrance, but it's not as big as the more well-known supermarkets scattered throughout Manhattan. It's nearly as clean either. The supermarket is also dark and dimly lit, ironically, which creates, for me at least, an unpleasant experience. And employees are visibly unhappy.
Prices are at a market high, so I'd stay away from completing your weekly haul of groceries at Ideal Marketplace. But hey, at least I have a supermarket to go to during dire times. At least I don't have to depend on corner delis and bodegas for my milk and onions.
