When we moved to Pelham a year ago, JCafe was called the MAD Cafe. We saw this as a sign of good things to come: our newborn (literally, two days old), Michael's, initials are MAD. My two experiences there were fine, but nothing particularly noteworthy. Then, a few months ago, the owner of the MAD Cafe announced that new management would be taking over. Apparently, the new owner saw the restaurant as an opportunity to pay homage to his sons, too … the J in JCafe refers to their first names.
After a bad experience at a local diner, my fellow mommy friend and I decided to have our weekly breakfast here. To our (delighted) surprise, the experience was fantastic: a huge, fluffy omelet stuffed with smoked salmon and goat cheese, streudel crusted french toast sticks and fresh muffins comprised that first meal. Everything was delicious.
I returned. Many times. With many people. Because …
… the salads are HUGE (I literally watched my mother-in-law eat her BLT salad for 20 minutes and not make a dent)
