  1. Decent. Vegans don't come here. Health nuts, avoid this place. Come to eat fried food. Fried fish, fried scallops, fried imitation crab, fried flounder, fried, and rice.

The place is a little janky. Don't come here for a first date, unless you're over impressing one another and just want to eat fried food. Also the TV show with the sensual sounds was kind of distracting. The vibe with the service is not the friendliest, but it's not like they're rude either. They're just doing business.

The good: everything here is very cheap! $5-7 for every choice. I like that they give you lines, tartar sauce, hot sauce and ketchup with your order. Enhances the meal even more 🙂

    Improvements:

    – I wish the pieces of fish were cut just a little thicker. It's not the thickest filet I've tried.

    – I wish they would switch up the batter to a crispier breading with all the nooks and crannies.

But for a $6 meal what do you want?

  2. How could you not give this place 5 stars?! If you are in the mood for fried fish, all different types of fish, then this is the only place I would recommend to anyone. All the combination dishes come with fries or rice and some lime wedges. Every table has 3 huge containers of hot sauce, ketchup, and tarter sauce that you can use as much as you want. The place makes delicious fried fish that is not greasy at all plus everything is fairly inexpensive! The employees here are very nice as well!

  3. Absolutely love this place. Used to come here pretty often but it's not until i moved away that i realized good fish and chips are very hard to find. The flounder is much better than the whiting if youre choosing between the two. Every time ive been there, the battered flounder comes straight outta the fridge and into the fryer so you can see that it's fresh. Fish is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The batter doesnt fall apart in your hands like old skin. And prices are very reasonable. You won't regret the trip.

  4. It definitely took me a while before I decided to venture into JFM. It used to focus more on selling *fresh* seafood and has recently morphed into the only spot in Elmhurst/Jackson Heights where you can get your fill of Americanized fried seafood goodness.

The meals are deals – most under $8. The selection is a bit limited though (a couple types of fish, shrimp, scallops, fries) when compared to other fish places that decided at some point to install deep fryers. (No fresh calamari 🙁 although, they serve soup!)

JFM's is definitely a good quick-fix spot (keep in mind that it's definitely NOT higher-end quality so one should not expect Chip Shop/Molly Blooms/A Salt & Battery meal here.) where you can hang under the tracks and chow down on fried goodness while watching free cable.

  5. It's essentially a fried seafood shack. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, it's cheap and quick seafood. The Korean lady in the front is nice. It's a quick eating spot, there is a long counter on both sides of the restaurant where you eat along the wall or a island that fits around 10 people. It's a very humble working class restaurant.

    The food:

Soup- it's pretty much a Fisherman's stew. It's fish chunks with assorted vegetables, it's actually pretty good. It's filling, warm and flavorful.

Flounder with rice- I was kinda surprised how much I enjoyed the flounder, I would definitely get it again. It was fried nicely and the fish was firm and meaty. There are tabeslide condiments of tartar, hot sauce and ketchup. The rice was just rice, think I will try a flounder sandwich next time. yelp.com/biz_photos/jose…

  6. Always came here for fried porgy and French fries as a kid. This place has changed a couple of times and they used to have a much bigger selection of fresh fish but the food is still consistently good as I remember so I always return. I guess selling fresh fish didn't pay the rent like fried goodness did

  7. Cheap deep fried seafood goodness! Jose Fish Market is owned and operated by a Korean family. Yes, it's Korean. Many of his employees are Hispanic. I come usually during lunch hours and it's the Korean ahjussi who runs the front. They have a variety of seafood platters on their menu. Most of them are under $10. The best in my opinion is #8. It's fried shrimps, scallops, and crab sticks w/ fried rice for just $5.50. I'm not crazy about the fake crab meat. I would prefer if they just gave more of shrimps and scallops instead. What's really surprising about their platters is their fried rice. The fried rice here is amazing! It's veggies, no meat, nada and it's still really good.

If you'd like to dine in, there's plenty of seats here. It's open and spacious. No waiters, it's kinda like cafeteria style. Also, for a fish market, this place doesn't reek of fish at all. Their fish market sections seems pretty small in the back end of the store. They also have raw oysters on the menu but they look pretty small. Their fish soup and other fried seafood are all pretty good. This place would be dynamite if they made fried catfish.

  8. Fresh Fried Fish Heaven! This is one of Jackson Heights hidden gems! Best fish shack in the area. I love this place! You simply have to come and try it.

I recommend their fried flounder combo that comes with fried flounder filet and Asian fried rice or fries or the Fresh fried Tilapia (not the breaded one, but the one where you choose the fish and they deep fry it for you). You can also get the Fisherman's stew! It's pretty good with chunks of assorted veggies.

Oh! And did I mention that it's super cheap??? Most meals under $8, cash only though! Can't beat this deal!
