“Too bad there is no place like this in Mass. Besides sushi, tuna dumpling and spicy eggplant are my favorite dishes.”

“A great mid-day treat, the lunch special cannot be compared to any other sushi place.”

“it's fun to sit in the front window and people watch along 5th avenue or there is outdoor seating in the back for a more peaceful meal.”

  1. +++
    – Late hours compared to other area restaurants
    – Plum wine filled to the brim

    ++
    – Chicken katsu
    – Salad wasn't that iceberg crap that most sushi places serve

    +
    – Delicious side vegetables
    – tender brown rice
    – Attentive staff, altho we arrived relatively close to closing, didnt feel rushed at all

  2. The house specialties we read about on Yelp lured us into Jpan one Saturday, but nothing quite lived up to expectations.

    -The tuna dumpling looks super cool, like a big red onion on a plate, but under the thinnest layer of tuna is the largest pile of minced crab stick. So. much. crab. stick. The combination of sauces, ginger on one half the plate, a red vinegar on the other, complemented the dish well, but maybe if the dish was renamed to crab stick craziness, it'd better set expectations for people who are into that sort of thing.

    – Volcano (spicy tuna and spicy salmon with avocado wrapped with crispy asian pancake, served with eel sauce and sweet spicy sauce) tasted like a chewy version of a tuna roll, nothing striking or special

    – The phoenix roll (eel, tuna, and mango, topped with crab stick, almond, and dried cranberry, served with wasabi aioli and eel glaze) sounded eclectic and fun, but there wasn't any eel – just eel glaze, and the cranberries were a bit too much – completely underwhelming.

    Jpan's menu is varied, extensive and interesting, but not quite sure if any of it is well-executed here.

  3. Had a great experience late night dining here. We got there past 10pm on weeknight. Seated quickly. The plum wine was wonderful, served in big full glasses. I kept it simple and ordered the eel avocado roll (set of 8) while my husband had the chicken katsu. Both dishes came pretty quick. Both delicious. Really melt in your mouth sushi and the chicken was soft, well prepared. We devoured our meals.

    Really appreciated how the staff was still  attentive even though they were closing within the hour.

  4. This is our go to ordering spot for sushi. The ingredients are fresh, tasty, and always consistently good. They have a good variety of sushi and entree options that will please everyone you are with. They have very interesting and tasty special rolls and lots fo options for vegans and vegetarians. Delivery comes really fast and the prices are right.

  5. Best bang for your buck for sushi in the Park Slope area. My boyfriend and I decided to order the "Sushi and Sashimi for 2" to go. Wait time was about 20 minutes. For $54, you get twenty pieces of chef's choice of sashimi, eight pieces of chef's choice of sushi, yellow river roll and a house appetizer (spicy tuna and tempura flakes wrapped with avocado) with miso soup or a garden salad.

    The order was huge! And so, so filling! Fresh, thick, generous cuts of fish, it could've easily fed three people. Fish selection included Salmon, Tuna, Eel, White Tuna, Stripe Bass, Spanish Mackerel, ect.

  6. So last year when I was looking for apartments I randomly had dinner here. Tonight was the follow up with delivery & Amy schumer HBO special. Lemme tell you, this did not disappoint.

    I was really in the mood for some chirashi, which can be a minefield if you don't know how the fish is but I figured let's try it!

    Food:
    -spicy mussel miso: I had two bites of it bc my entree was a monstrosity. Pretty spicy, not for the faint of heart
    -"Never know raw fish bowl:" my great debate tonight was between the chirashi bowl & this gem. Since there was no description of what's in this I took a chance (living on the wild side tonight). All I have to say is HOLY CRAP! The serving is huge! Def big enough for two people & it comes with either soup or salad. The rice is seasoned & topped with kani, tamago, eel sauce & roe. There are 9 pieces of sashimi & some phenomenal thing that's spicy tuna wrapped in avocado.

    The fish is fresh. It's not like top of the line but it's still very good. Delivery was within the time frame given by seamless. I will FO SHO be getting this amazing gem known as the "never know raw fish bowl"

  7. The sushi was pretty fresh. I had the evergreen roll which was very tasty and was big (it better be at 14 bucks), sashimi clam, squid and octopus and sushi salmon roe and sea urchin. The prices for the a la carte items were a little high, but the pieces of fish were pretty large.

    I found the cooked food was just so-so, but it could have been what we ordered. The shrimp on the pre fix menu was a plate of a lot of fried food. The soup was good.

  8. This place is your typical sushi joint. Don't expect to find anything fancy or eclectic- they stick to the basics. The staff here is very nice, although sometimes it was hard to get their attention. Their food was alright (it's tough to mess up an avocado roll), not a place to leave me thinking about it after I leave.
