This is a really cute coffee bar!
We have come here several times and have never been disappointed. We usually get the iced coffee and some cookies for the kids. This time I got an iced matcha green tea latte and it was super good!
We will definitely be coming back!
I had heard from a few people that this was the best coffee they have had in NYC so I had high expectations I guess. After a long walk on the highline, I stumbled into Kava and got an iced coffee. It basically tasted like sweetened water. And that was because I put a ton of sugar in it. The service is not friendly either. The back patio is a nice green space to sit down outside and meet people but that's pretty much it.
They have a card where you get 12 drinks, one drink free, but I doubt i'll be going back so I didn't pick it up.
An interesting cafe in the middle of the over-gentrified Meatpacking District. The retro 60's decor is slick, the staff were very friendly, and the espresso made well.
The hidden garden in the back could do with a little TLC, but is a great respite from the bustle outside.
Great location right by the entry to the High Line so handy to grab a cup for walking up there. Tried both the iced coffee on a warmer day's visit and the chai on a cooler day. The iced coffee was decent – a little too bitter for my taste but that was a matter of preference. The chai, however, was excellent. Drinks are not cheap, that is true. I don't mind paying a little extra for a truly enjoyable cup so with that said, the chai was worth it. The coffee? Hmm. Perhaps if it were larger. The place itself is cute – pretty neat that they serve beer etc also – that's a plus. Went into the garden in the back on my first visit but it was closed this last time – I assumed because of the season but in reading here it seems it's just closed, period? That would be a shame if true because it really is a nice perk.

I came in before work, and this place was dead silent. The barista was friendly enough, and I was uncaffeinated enough that I didn't even look for a menu, I just mumbled, "Latte, please."
A few taps on the iPad register, and she prompted me, "Five dollars." I passed her my debit card, and a receipt was slid in front of me, with the pen placed pointing directly at the tip line. Seeing the receipt jolted me out of my sleepy stupor and I looked up at the barista quickly with shock at how much my coffee was. I HATE being prompted to tip–it's supposed to be gratuity for excellent service, not an unquestioned standard practice. Anyway, I wrote in the tip, signed the receipt and perused the pastry case while another guy prepared my coffee. Seconds later, a tiny cup was pushed my way.
A. Tiny. Cup.
This is why Starbucks does so well–you pay $5 and you get approximately the serving size of two and a half coffees. You go to a boutique coffee place, and you pay $5 for an elf-sized serving.
Coffee was okay. Tasted overly nutty and perhaps even a little powdery. Next time, I'm sticking to what I know is great, hand crafted coffee at Champion Coffee in Gansevoort Market.
Nice guys, and I think the barista is probably good. But the coffee is so over-roasted, who can tell? Thin shot, and even well-foamed milk can't change that. If you want Starbucks but don't want to go to Starbucks, then this is your MP district go-to.
A lovely little coffee shop located near The High Line. The interior is kept dark, but cozy and interesting. The coffee is pretty good, but quite expensive too. I really think that Kava deserves a visit, especially in a neighbourhood not that great for coffee.
