  1. What's so beautiful about this place!?
    1) I was served in French! oh yeah!
    2) The service is relaxed and gentle
    3) The portion are generous
    4) The price is quite cheap.

I can count the amount of African meal on one hand and on 2-3 finger Senegal meal. I've ask what the restaurant name mean and it means Chez Nous (From Home). And that is definetly the feeling of the place. There's Wifi in this place, so if you're traveling looking to a restaurant to relax and have free wifi. Try the Bassis, Khassip… gloup I suck at name, but basically it's yogurt with some local grain that taste a little like tapioca.
I had the Chicken with couscous and sweet onions. The chicken was just great.  Couscous was pretty decent too. I would have like the couscous with a little sauce like mid-eastern eats it, but otherwise very good. Go there, Harlem is freaking great nice peoples, relaxed place. Not pretentious at all.

  2. I was a little hesitant because Im semi new to the area but completely ignorant to Senegalese cuisine… That is until today!

I tried the Dibi with white rice and the bessap. Bessap was nice although I was expecting a bit more tartness than the sweet I got. But I am going by the comparison to Caribbean sorrel.

The Dibi was delicious and I am a lover of lamb so it hit all the right tones of tender, smoky/grilled goodness! Im definitely a fan and want to return!

  3. Their sorrel drink is to die for! The main courses are phenomenal as well, like the peanut stew and palm stew. I only order take out so I'm not sure about their services.

  4. Came here with a large group of friends. My first time venturing up to 135th st. in Harlem and my first time trying African food in NY. We were a huge group of asians w/ a token white guy in a predominantly black neighborhood. Quite an experience indeed!

The waitresses were very helpful as they could tell that we were first timers. They recommended the lamb and grilled fish. So the majority of our table got one or the other. The fish looked so amazing coming out – it reminded me of the fried fish that they have in the Bahamas. Very delicious. I had the lamb and it was amazing. It wasn't game-y in the least bit. My friend and fellow yelper Deanna L. hates lamb, but she actually liked the lamb here. It had a very bbq grill flavor (salty/peppery) and it was super tender. I sucked the bone marrow as well – that's the best part.

The portions here are huge, so you could probably split a plate with a friend. Get the fried plantains – they're AMAZING. Also, the slaw and onions that comes with the dishes are really tasty.

If you've never tried African food before, this is a great place to start.
