  1. First time here for lunch with Marissa. We each had a lunch special. I had yellowtail with scallion-salmon and soft shell crab roll. Each special comes with soup and salad with my favorite dressing–ginger. Service was prompt but should have been cause at 12:30 there was us and one other table occupied. Place is new and modern. Will definitely give it a try for dinner.

  2. Kiku was a real surprise.  Among the abundance of sushi restaurants and fusion restaurants, Kiku stands out, for offering authentically prepared Japanese food.  Our lunch there was very pleasant, dining in a nice ambience, with good service, and most of all – exceptional food.

The salads we ordered were fresh and crisp, with the traditional ginger dressing served on the side, allowing us to use as much – or as little – as we wanted.  The avocado salad contained generous slices of avocado.  The steamed vegetable gyoza (potstickers) were tender, nicely done and sporting a thin, delicate dough.  My Philadelphia Roll was a bit smaller than the Signature Rolls, but it was also priced accordingly.  It contained smoked salmon, which was a wonderful accompaniment to the cream cheese.  The wasabi could have been fresher (as wasabi stands around, it tends to lose its heat).

The Tempura Udon was a generous portion, and the two components were served separately, to keep the tempura crisp and light.  My miso ramen was absolutely authentic and real competition for the dish of the same name I usually have at the Japanese market in Edgewater.  The broth was a bit lighter (not so heavy), but the soup contained adequate amounts of pork belly, the traditional shoyu (soy sauce) cured hard boiled egg, and a good amount of light ramen noodles.

Overall, we were delighted.  I look forward to my next visit.
