  1. the food isn't bad. its a clean chic modern space but is quite small actually. aside from that, the food comes small portions in comparison to some other places in the area. we had a few orders of roast meat platters and it was sad – the amount/portion and the meat. we were basically eating bones / scraps. the dimsum i tried was the rice roll which was fine.

  2. *Take-out Only* *3.5 stars to be exact*

When I found out there was a clay pot restaurant opening up in my neighborhood, I was ecstatic! My boyfriend & I have been here twice for take-out during lunch time. I've never been here during the week, but during lunch hours (12PM – 3PM) on the weekends it is crazy packed!

I didn't know that there was additional floor for seating/customers, but the main dining area is quite cramped and small. The decor is a little bit nicer than your average Chinese restaurant and very warm and bright.

My boyfriend and I have only had their clay pot rices (to go) and generally it has taken about 20-25 minutes for it to be ready. We usually leave our numbers with the women that work at the counter and they give us a buzz when it's done. I'm not sure what the policy is now, but they have given us the pots without an extra charge for it.

Taro with preserved meat in rice casserole – Absolutely love this one in every way and it's also pretty cheap – about $6-$8 (I forgot the actual amount). It really smells amazing when you open the lid. It smells like meaty heaven. The meat is obviously quite delicious and yummy. I love eating the crusty parts of the rice and it tastes especially good with the fat and juices from the preserved meat. YUM!

Salted Fish and Minced meat in rice casserole – My boyfriend usually gets this in the last two times we've been here. This clay pot rice is very good in terms of taste and quality too, but a little too much salted fish in my opinion. The rice isn't as crusty in this version.

Sadly, we haven't tried any of the other rice casseroles or dishes, but everything sounds good and looks good. I think I would much prefer doing take-out from here because it doesn't look very comfortable to eat in the tight space of the restaurant. We will definitely need to return though to try out the other dishes or different rice casseroles

  3. This is probably my family's 6th time dining here and every single time, at the end of our meal, we almost always say "let's not come back here… "

Let me start by saying – their food is fine, it's decent and some items are pretty good. Like their "crispy rice roll with Buddhist delight" aka a rice paper roll wrapped around a deep fried vegetarian spring roll. Yes it does taste as good as it sounds.  (Who doesn't like fried dough?!?!) and of course their rice casserole – "Bo Jia Fan"… Steam rice cooked in a clay pot, creating a semi glazed bottom with crispy rice and whatever toppings of your choosing.   My family likes the following combo:  spare ribs w black bean sauce, add Chinese sausages (add $2), yellow eel and the salted fish minced pork cake with egg.  Good for sharing!

Our biggest angst is the "wait staff & service"… Almost none existing from the moment you are seated – paper menu given, dropping off cups of tea,  they take your food order and totally disappear from your sight through out the entire meal!

You better save your tea/ice water – cuz there's never a voluntary refill unless you stand the eff up & shout "water please"!  Also, forget about asking them to follow up on your food order – you'll get the look of "ugh… I'm like texting and pretending I'm busy.. Why are you bothering me!" STARE.   We always feel like our meal is incomplete because the wait time from your appetizer arrival and entree is about 30mins… So… Tip 1: don't order any appetizers, just go with the main – might as well starve for 30-40mins and chow down!  Tip 2: don't eat here unless you have lots of leisure time in waiting… Tip 3: bring your own water… Tip 4: "tax" is already added to your meal (cash only place), so do your own math on tipping…

Unfortunately my kids like this place so… I'm kind of stuck unless I can find a replacement.

    Happy feasting Yelpers!

  4. The service here is horrendous. We decided to come here to grab a quick early dinner on a Sunday night, but it was anything but quick. Ok, let me just get this out of the way, the food here may possibly be better than the other two locations. I never had an issue with their food, nothing amazing. I ordered the wontons in soup this time, but honestly couldn't remember if they've always been so tiny; I don't like that it's not very authentic in terms of size/wonton skin to meat filling ratio. They're pretty good though. The seating and decor is exactly the same as the other locations, but this one feels a little less cramped.

You don't expect good service regardless of which King's Kitchen location you go to, but everyone deserves decent service. It wasn't very busy and there were times where several waiters were just standing there. The entire time we were there, I only had one cup of tea and I left our empty cups on the side of the table so they could see it. We asked for the check, acknowledged and then ignored. We asked for it again and then took out money to pay it. We wait for a while and no waiter comes around so we thought we would bring it to the register to pay, apparently not an option. We have to wait for a waiter to do it! The waiters here are doing a terrible job and customers shouldn't have to wait on them. Please fix your system and train your wait staff. I don't recommend eating here and I won't be back.

  5. Came here on their grand opening day about 3 months ago but it was too crowded so we just left. It seems like they added a 2nd floor dining area to accommodate the large volume of customers. The decor is a step-up from your usual Cantonese restaurants since the chairs/tables are fancier and the servers are a little younger. Nevertheless, I found the place to be very cramped. It's a huge struggle trying to walk between the tables since they're so close to each other. The servers were a little inattentive but were nice for the most part.

Beef chow fun- The chow fun was very delicious but a little on the oily side. I was not a fan of the beef since I found it to be too rough and salty.
Preserved meat casserole- They are known for their casseroles but I wasn't particularly impressed. It just seemed like the rice and the meats didn't mix well. The rice was bland and the meats were kind of salty even though we adequately mixed them together. I feel like they really nailed the crispy bottom layer of rice though.
Poached egg with beef casserole- I had expected the beef to be minced but it turned out to be sliced instead. Minced beef tastes way better than sliced beef in these types of rice casserole dishes! The word poached is rather misleading because the egg was not poached, but more like raw and you have to mix it with the warm rice to cook it.

Overall, I would say the food here is passable but not memorable enough to have me coming back. I've had better beef chow fun elsewhere and I feel like my mom could make a better tasting rice casserole at home. $25 for 3 people that left me satiated but that's the magic of Cantonese food lmao.

  6. This is a great place that I'd recommend for rice in clay pots (casseroles)! They also have a good mix of congee, rice noodles and appetizers like chicken wings, roast pork , duck , chicken etc..

For those unafraid of clogging a few arteries, I would recommend the dong po meat. This delicious pot of pork fat literally melts in your mouth.

We ordered three clay pots to share. The taro with preserved meat, the black truffle chicken , and the poached egg with beef. The taro and preserved meats ( Chinese sausage and bacon fat). This was really good especially with some soy sauce drizzled over it. Don't forget to scrape the crisped up rice off the sides and bottom of the pot! The black truffle chicken clay pot was good especially the sauce. The poached egg was a good choice especially when mixed into the rice inside the pot.

The fried rice dough with fish was a new experience and pretty good.

Overall, this is a great choice new option to eat especially in a neighborhood with sooo many Asian restaurants.

  7. The service was very accommodating even with the language barrier….the food was very bland yet the MSG was potent
    -_-

  8. This place has the BEST rice casseroles!  If you come on a regular weeknight – there is no wait at all but beware they do close earlier than their 8th Ave location (10:00 PM SHARP).  If you come during the weekends – there might be somewhat of a wait.

My usual to go items are Spare Ribs w/ Black Bean Sauce Rice Casserole, Eel Casserole & their bitter melon veggie dish (it's not on the menu).

Their rice casseroles are cooked within 15 mins of ordering!  It comes out in a very hot clay pot so be careful!  The best way to eat them is to pour some soy sauce over it and mix everything together.  I have no complains whatsoever as they are super tasty and did I mention how inexpensive these are??

I also want to mention their cha siu and duck are BOMB but it's hard to get them since they always sell out by the end of the night!  If you want to order a veggie dish here – ask them what's in season or what they have in the kitchen (everyday is different).  I ALWAYS order the Bitter Melon w/ Black Bean Sauce – it comes in a pretty big portion for around $9.00.

I'll definitely be coming back as this is my usual to go Chinese spot around my house and I highly recommend this place to everyone!  I didn't give it 5 stars because I feel like the service can be a bit better!
