  1. I've had Kiraku bookmarked for a while, and after some of the really not-so-great places lately, I wish we had come here sooner. It was so beautiful out on Saturday afternoon- we had reservations for 7:00pm but were starving and it was only 1:00pm. A nice short drive away and we were in the private parking lot of a well manicured property with an inviting entrance.
Once inside, the clean and inviting decor prompted us to ask for one of the booths along the left wall. Shoes removed and nestled into our private booth, we were ready to sink into some good food and some cocktails.
The lychee martini I had was excellent and the green tea martini she tried was good as well. Follow these up with some hot saki and now the food can come! Anytime we can get some good ceviche- we are in. Being presented in a martini glass kept the theme we had going on. It, was fresh, tasty and devoured within minutes. We also tried the spicy lobster spring rolls. They came out hot and savory with a dipping sauce that we wish we'd had more of. We followed this up with a dragon roll and some delicious miso soup. All of the food we really very good and the service was friendly, quick and intuitive. They seemed to know when to come and clear plates or refill a water glass.
We surely didn't have to, but spent the better part of two hours enjoying our food, cocktails, and the atmosphere. I'm sorry we had waited so long to try this really cool Japanese restaurant and I'm sure we will be back.

  2. My office gets take out from Kiraku a few times a month for lunch and I've grown quite fond of the Teriyaki Salmon Bento Box.  For $12.95, you get a lot of food.  The miso soup and salad that come with the Bento Box are average.

I've also sampled a few rolls, Crispy Duck Spring Roll, Haru Maki, Shumai and Gyoza, all of which were pretty tasty!

Definitely worth a try if you're in the area, and if you work nearby they also deliver.

  3. Any place with traditional Japanese seating with your shoes off wins my heart.

Great place to catch up with friends and sip some saki. Extensive menu with many specialty rolls and great none sushi options.

  4. Came in with family for a graduation dinner.  The black jack roll was very good and tasted fresh.  For dinner, I had the seafood & baby bok choy entree.  The small lobster tail that came with this dish was overlooked as were the shrimp.  However, the ginger sauce was tasty.  The service was attentive although our waitress seemed a little lost at times.  While I wouldn't travel out of my way to eat here in the future, I would give it another try if I was in the area.

  5. Nom Nom

So, I'm in the mood for sushi and being on two different ends of the planet we decided to meet here for some dinner and catching up.  I finally got to order the "ship" of sushi- I've always wanted to do that but never had anyone along that could that much sashimi (admit it- most of you are roll people).

In any case, we had the ship, some lychee martinis and all was well.

They still try to shove drinks down your throat which is tres annoying so I'll hold off that last star until they change that practice.

  6. So Im in Long Island and I get sushi cravings.  Open up the Yelp App and start picking a new place to try.  Came across this restaurant so I come inside. The ambiance is nice and the decor is pretty calm.

They also had a television so I can watch some Knicks while devouring my sushi.
I ordered the Sashimi combo and almost everything was really fresh, but surprisingly the salmon wasn't as fresh as I had in most places. This is sad because I love salmon so much.  The prices are average.

The restaurant's also operated by Chinese people, not Japanese.  I can only tell because I understand when the workers speak to each other. Not necessarily a bad thing, but from my experiences.. the Chinese owners like to cut costs and get lower quality ingredients.
