  1. This is an update for their newly renovated space in Roslyn only. Food quality remains the same – excellent and hits the spot every time! Opening weekend was hectic with loads of people waiting to quench their sushi needs at their old stomping grounds. Service was a little slower and spread thin, but we were satisfied nonetheless. Shout out to my main man Eric for always taking care of his customers; he's the absolute best!

For those Koto cult fans that have been in withdrawal for the past several months, the wait is over……but was it worth it? I don't know. The space is modern, open, and feels somewhat like a cafeteria now. I chatted with 2 other customers on the bathroom line that shared the same sentiment. We miss our old Koto. When you enter, the front desk is barely a desk, but a slim podium where servers fight for space. There are seats along the wall for waiting patrons, the sushi bar is now in the left back corner, and the entire right wall is half booth style seating which could be advantageous for larger parties. What I do like is their ceiling, very funky and modern. The new interior is not that cozy, but I guess that is nothing a few drinks from Besito can't fix. My hope is that their continued progress of the space will make it more traditional and less trendy.

  2. I came here with some friends for dinner. This place has mostly sushi but there are other non sushi dishes too.

They give you this small plate of spicy noodles and they're pretty good. It is basically noodles with a hint of sesame I believe. I liked it and you can actually order a full appetizer if you want more.

I ordered a piece of ikura and thought the eggs were really fresh. The tamago was also delicious, perfectly made and has that slightly sweet taste.

I got nabeyaki udon. The soup was quite clear and didn't have a ridiculous amount of vegetables. I thought the flavor was good and the noodles were a good consistency. I would get this dish again. You'd be surprised but a lot of places don't do this basic dish very well.

  3. Kotobuki is my go to sushi spot when I'm in Long Island… The k Mac slider were tasty and delicious.. The tuna pizza was one of the best I've had so far. I  recommend getting both for appetizers..

  4. Best sushi in Long Island, without any questions. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. A few tips: the salmon avocado salad is an amazing value, big pieces of raw salmon and big chunks of avocado with crunchy cucumber and spicy mayo, for like 10 bucks. I don't know how they do it. Next, the sushi and sashimi for ONE easily feeds two of us and we rarely ever finish it. I miss kotobuku more than anything else when it comes to living in long island!

  5. This place is outstanding.. went for the sushi but also ordered yaki udon noodles with teriyaki sauce (not the ones that come as a soup) and was completely blown away.. AMAZING.. now I try to find yaki udon noodles at other restaurants but none can compete with the dish at Kotobuki.. You must try them! We also LOVED the spicy tuna pizza. The K-mac sliders were tasty but not as impressive as the yaki udon noodles and spicy tuna pizza. I also ordered the golden coast roll and would recommend it as well.

  6. I have been to Kotobuki a few times and always enjoy the food. Here's the negative which they can't really help since they an extremely popular sushi restaurant. There is usually a long wait, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the time and day. Obviously days like friday and saturday the wait is longer. This would be a little more manageable if there was a nice waiting area, but the space by the door and the counter becomes so packed that you can't move and are constantly being shoved around. During the summertime the wait is shorter and more pleasant because they have a large outdoor seating area.

As for the food, I am NEVER hesitant about eating the raw fish here because they have so much turnover and it is ALWAYS fresh. For appetizers I like the gyoza's a lot and the classic miso soup. The shrimp shumai is pretty good but not the best i've had. Their vegetable tempura is okay… but I have never been a big tempura fan.

The, sushi, the main focus of the evening… always always always amazing! I have really never been disappointed in their specialty rolls although I do wish they had some more with Eel in them. Recommended rolls: Puff the Magic Dragon, Hole in 1, Gold Coast, Caterpillar Remixed and Mardi Gras Gone Wild. I have had a few others but I don't remember the names. Of course everyone has different sushi preferences but there are PLENTY of options here.

The service can be a tad slow on packed nights, so don't expect the normal speedy sushi meal, but overall they are usually pretty attentive.

A must try on Long Island if you like sushi!

  7. I'm usually skeptical about trying new sushi places because I've got my favorites and just stick to those. Kotobuki is about an hour drive from me but I was convinced by friends to try it. NO REGRETS! Amazing sushi, amazing appetizers… However, the service was not great. Due to the fact that this place is very busy (even on weekdays), they are not as attentive to tables as they should be. Expect at least a half hour wait but your taste buds will be satisfied!

  8. I've heard about Kotobuki from my in laws in Suffolk who rave about this place.  I was always skeptical but I recently got a chance to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised.  The quality of the sushi and food in general was great, on par with places in the city.  The sushi and sashimi platter for 2 was great with more than enough for two people (more likely suitable for 3).  The kotobuki steak was also good, tender and well marinated.  Kids also really liked their ramen.

This location is small and seating is at a premium.  Dinner is a dicey proposition if you have more than 4 people (be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes).  Probably the best sushi in the general area and far better than I expected.  Will be back.
