  1. Authentic Polish cuisine in a nice, quiet , nicely decorated environment ( no TV) that makes one feel like one has entered "Okd Europe" to some degree.  Staff are all clearly first generation Polish immigrants, conversing amongst themselves in Polish, they are all courteous and efficient in my experience so far. I have tried the Polish sampler ( sauerkraut and bacon and mushroom sauce pierogues, kielbasa, and beef stuffed cabbage rolls), the hungarian style beef goulash with potato pancakes,  the ricotta cheese and jam blintzes, the Ukrainian borscht, and the mushroom soup; all were great and sorry I don't speak Polish and don't recall the correct Polish names for the dishes.. the blintzes had great texture, I highly recommend them althougj I wish they were available with fresh fruit filling rather than just jam, I have had blintzes with fresh fruit in other Polish or Russian restaurants and it would be nice to see them here as the crepes are quite tasty.. This is a Bring your own wine establishment ( or whatever alcoholic beverage I suppose, not sure about the local laws), which is a nice money saving feature! The environment here , although not fancy, is nice enough for a date and the BYOB thing is great. Prices seem reasonable for freshly prepared, high quality, authentic Polish dishes.. They have numerous cakes and other desserts in a fridge, have not yet sampled those. They make espresso drinks, including flavored ones.. On street parking, but usually in South River this can be found without difficulty nearby..

  2. Homemade Polish food, its not so easy to find.  Restaurant is very clean.  I wish prices were better, but I plan on wrapping food to take it home.  I love mushroom and sauerkraut pirogies but you have to order them separate.   The combo platter gives you potato and cheese ones.  Maybe most people think that is the only way to eat them, but I don't eat them.   Still a great restaurant, I'd rather spend a little more on lunch and enjoy my lunch than to save money and regret.   Stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, hunter stew, and pirogies are on the combo platter.

  3. No real charm to the place but the food was an excellent representation of home Polish cooking.  I love places like this.  This was my first time there but I went with friends who have been regularly going there for years.

I thoroughly enjoyed my kielbasa plate.  The perogies that I dared not touch looked great.

  4. So how many Pollocks does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Perogies and stuff cabbage right here folks. Quaint tiny spot only 6 tables or so in the middle of South River for all your Polish dining needs.

When I think Polish after that joke comes to mind, perogies, kielbasa, red cabbage, sauerkraut along with of course borscht quickly dance in my Russian ancestral memory banks. Basically that's what you'll get here and expect all those dishes performed to perfection. The menu isn't very elaborate. They do have a couple of interesting deviations to the stuffed cabbage from the traditional tomato sauce to  mushroom sauce amply applied.  Now you can get your perogies filled with beef,  plain potato or sauerkraut all of which are winners. Pork chops beneath a pile high of sauerkraut, yum.The chicken noodle or matzo ball soup is also a nice touch to any meal, but as I already mentioned and can't stress enough there borscht kicks beettocks, lol I couldn't resist. Affordable almost all items are less than $10 for lunch.

There's two big windows facing Main Street South River so it's really easy to find. Clean and compact with attentive service. There doesn't seem to be any type of ambience, music or decor so to speak of, I wish there was.  Probably a lil better for a quick lunch pop in than dinner,  but it is a BYOB so don't forget to bring the vodka,  nostrovia!

(Three- one to hold the light bulb and two to spin the chair.) Lol.

  5. Haven't stopped by Krakowiak to dine for some time, but they're still awesome!

Tried the Kielbasa platter served with Rye bread and a side order of red cabbage salad.

Kielbasa was still amazing with bite-through snappy skin and rich fatty pork goodness inside, and the smoke flavor was both tasty and aromatic. I loved how they cross-hatched the skin of the kielbasa too!

Red cabbage salad was notably yummy, as it was shredded and really refreshing providing a nice tart contrast to the rich kielbasa.

Rye bread was served with some mustard and both were tasty and paired well with the kielbasa.

My sister had the breaded chicken cutlet and it was also fantastic.

Crisp and not too thick, the breading had a pleasant peppery oregano flavor and inside the chicken was still very moist and flavorful.

Of course the infamous Krakowiak mashed potatoes were there in two gloriously rich scoops.

The side beet salad, like my red cabbage salad, provided such a nice cool acidic contrast to the rich main protein.

    Krakowiak…….great job!
