  1. Small sandwich shop in the Union Square Area. Stopped here for a quick bite. Had the Cuban, and it was a damn good sandwich. They also run beer/wine deals during the day with your sandwich purchase, so that is always a plus. Make sure to check for seating upstairs if you want to eat in.

  2. I love this place. I could spend all day here. What isn't taken into consideration with the 3 star voters(haters) is the ambiance, the service and the overall quality of the products used to create a simple french staple.

The ambiance is like few you'll find in Manhattan. It seems that 3 star voter, Harry H., never went upstairs to the additional seating area where there was plenty of space for a restaurant critic's ego. The two people I have dealt with behind the counter have been so nice that they earn a star on their own. I tried meat and veggie options both were delightful.

I recommend the gruyere cheese on any of the sandwiches(as the staff recommended to me) as it is the cheese often used for Croques. The cheddar isn't bad either.

The pastry options are to die for and are delicious as they should be from a French establishment (in my opinion, of course). The coffee is decent as well.

I would be a regular here if I lived close enough even though it is a wee bit pricey(but hey, they use imported products…so suck it up)

  3. Cute place, decently appointed with a French flair. Small menu and the sandwiches are good size and basically thrown on a panini grill for a few minutes to warm. No fries are an option here, chips only. I didn't try the coffee options but they did appear to be well liked as there was a steady stream of what appeared to be happy locals coming in for various drinks while I sat and ate the Cuban pork sandwich which was not Cuban pork but really just ham. Decent ham, but just ham. The sauce was okay. I would have liked to have been offered a cup of water to go with the sandwich but maybe that's a NYC thing – no water without $. Would I return? Sure, if I was in the neighborhood and it was lunch time or even breakfast. Would I seek it out? No.

  4. Came for a low key Sunday lunch with a group. Good sandwiches and soup for a reasonable price, with additional seating upstairs. Simple, well-executed concept! Fast-casual place where you order at the counter and then take your order to your table.

  5. A great spot for lunch or a pastry stop. There are a lot of unique sandwich offerings besides the classic croque. I had the Croque Antonin (turkey, cranberry, provolone, and sage) with a side salad. The sandwich was really good but the side salad was disappointing. It was literally just mesclun greens and olive oil. There were no toppings in the salad.  The shop also sells doughnuts from "Dough." So if you're looking for a sweet treat at the end of the meal, there are plenty of good options too. A fair amount of seating inside as well as there are 2 levels of seating.

  6. I gave this place a try for lunch one day. I came around a quarter after one and was happy to find that there was seating available. Probably seats around 20 people or so. A lot of people look like they were hanging out here for a while using the free Wi-Fi. I had the tuna melt sandwich with a side of pickles which made it a dollar extra. Interestingly enough the house that it came with one definitely your typical Vlasic  pickles cut up and put into a container.  If you are going to serve  a side to gourmet sandwiches I would think it would've been something little bit more interesting that were cured in-house or something. Either way I quite enjoy Vladic pickles so it wasn't the worst thing. My tuna melts was really fresh tasting, still very hot and cheese melted really well. Some of the ends were a little burnt for my liking but otherwise hi found it pretty satisfying and a decent size

  7. What an adorable spot with great food.
So glad i found this place. It has plenty of seats and delicious sandwiches!

I had the Mr.Antonin with a iced chai- they were both amazing!
It was getting a bit crowded but the food came out quick and i still managed to grab a seat.
I will definitely go again and try other things in the menu.
    They also have combos.

  8. Very romantic French sandwich shop just a block away from Union Square. Surrounded by new vegetarian/vegan restaurants and wine bars, this whole neighborhood caters to young people 30 and under.

Croque Monsieur true to its name serves hot, French grilled cheese sandwiches of just any variety combination you can imagine. For the fancier sandwiches, they name them after famous men in history, some passed on, some still with us like the Mr. Gore which is a portabella mushroom, tomato and goat cheese sandwich.

For myself I decided to go truly authentic so I ordered the Croque Madame Anaïs. I just love saying Ann-aye-eess!! 🙂 Its a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a fried egg. It was sooo good, the cheese I ordered with it was a French Raclette, which was a strong, earthy kind of cheese. The bread was toasted perfectly crisp, and surprisingly even with the addition of the fried egg it wasn't at all a heavy feeling sandwich. It was just perfect for brunch.

Definitely come in for a French bistro type experience. 🙂
