  1. The staff here were absolute champions, MVPs even, after our table turned our bill into "The Great CLUSTERF*CK of 2015". On top of being entirely patient while it took my extremely inefficient party nearly an hour to pay the bill, the staff was very accommodating. Bread baskets and water never went unfilled, appetizers came out quickly, and most importantly, all of the dishes were served piping hot. The portions here are huge! I particularly loved the Kobe Wagyu Beef Meatballs with Ricotta and the main dish I ordered which was a house made, cheese filled pasta with spicy ground sausage and chiles in a tequila pink cream sauce. Absolutely delicious! Our waiter recommended the Il Conte D'Abruzzo even though it was a lower price point that some of the other wine bottles on the list. We appreciated the honestly, and it was a great pairing with the meals we had! The baby kale salad was good as well.

The atmosphere here is homey. The back room where our party sat felt a lot like a residential dining room. I liked the cozy touches.

All in all, a five star experience, minus my group being unable to get their shit together. I'll definitely plan a return visit when I can go with a smaller group who placed in the 99th percentile on their standardized math tests. And I'm not bitter, obviously.

  2. Gluten free pizza and pasta in a real old school feeling white table-cloth joint – add in the great location, a stone's throw from the water, and La Nonna is a great go-to for dinner. My family is italian and loves coming to places exactly like La Nonna when they visit.

Ok I don't think they actually have white table cloths, but it's still the kind of place that you'd want to bring your italian parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles to for a nice night out.

Our group split a gluten free pizza as a starter, both the crust and toppings were top notch. I also LOVED the gluten free penne with the fettuccine verdi tartufate (mushrooms with a creamy truffle sauce) – they can do ANY of their pizzas with GF crust and they can sub GF spaghetti or penne in any of the pasta dishes

La Nonna definitely errs on the side of rich and decadent, lots of cheese, carb and cream heavy options, which as far as I'm concerned, is exactly what you want at an old school italian spot.

I also had a delicious cocktail (storm on kent) – so A+ all around!

  3. Wonderful homemade Italian food, some of the best I've had in the New York area.

I first fell in love with La Nonna at its original location, but the new restaurant is much bigger and, if you sit outside, offers beautiful views of the river. The food remains delicious, especially the homemade pasta. I especially enjoyed the Raviolo All'Uovo and also the Pere salad. There are great options for vegetarians here such as the Raviolo, Gnocchi, and Paccheroni Alla Napoletana. You can order a starter salad or vegetable side if you don't want to just fill up on just pizza or pasta, though it will be hard to resist such delectable dishes!

The atmosphere at the new restaurant is much more upscale, but casual attire is still appropriate. La Nonna is perfect for dates or visiting family or friends, or just any time you want delicious Italian food.

  4. Came here for family dinner.

Food was really good, but it was a long wait. They seemed to be a busy restaurant for that day – atypically. They have special's daily. I tried the snapper – which was really good. It's dry if you don't spread the sauce on the bottom of the foil while you eat it. The mussels and squid that came with it were really fresh too. The pizza appetizer was okay, nothing special.

My brother had wanted his porkchop medium rare but they gave him well done. Note: if you want it medium rare, make sure to make that specification clear. They claim that they don't want to "take responsibility" for under-done pork. I don't know exactly what that means…

My brother's lambchop was pretty good too. Although portions are rather small.

    Overall, decent restaurant.

  5. Great spot in Williamsburg for all types of dinning. Whether it's date night, a family gathering, or brunch, La Nonna is the spot. Super cute decor! They have outdoor seating in the warmer weather as well. The portions here are very generous and the food is delightful. The staff is super courteous and friendly too! If you need a phone charger, they will let you charge at the hostess stand. There's a parking garage around the corner on N 5th and you can walk around the waters edge on the board walk. Great views of NYC. Highly recommend!

  6. Went here for a company Christmas party.  The wine was nothing special, but they kept it flowing so I can't complain.  We had the fried calamari (delicious), filet mignon dumplings (good), and truffle flatbread (delicious!).  Then we had pasta, which to be honest was kind of disappointing.  The sauce was very one dimensional, kind of bland and not much texture to it/watery.  I would need to come back for a regular dinner in order to properly determine, but this was a little shocking for an Italian restaurant.  My main was steak with chimichurri sauce, which the sauce was not even close to chimichurri but tasty nonetheless.  Dessert was great, the cheesecake was nice.

The ambiance of the restaurant is romantic and intimate.  I would consider coming back to try their regular menu.
