  1. Excellent Latin Cuisine in Yorkville.

I came here with a large group of friends on Saturday night (6/4/16) for a birthday dinner.  We made reservations that afternoon with relative ease, though we were eating somewhat on the earlier side (7:30 PM).  Overall, my group had a great experience!

The restaurant has a casual yet intimate ambience.  It was good for catching up with friends, but I also think it would be a nice date spot.  There is plenty of seating between table settings and the bar.  The service was great.  Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to the purpose of the dinner.  She provided a complimentary round of tequila shots, put a candle in a special dessert, and got the entire restaurant to sing, "Happy Birthday" to my friend.  It was sincerely appreciated.

The food and drinks were solid.  I ordered an Old Fashioned and The Smoky Room as drinks throughout the meal.  I preferred The Smoky Room, which was Ilegal Mezcal & Milagro tequila, passion fruit puree, pomegranate juice, and House Nectar.  I tried the seafood spaghetti as an entrée, and it was outstanding.  The seasoning of the spaghetti was highly enjoyable, and the seafood (mussels, clams, and calamari) tasted fresh.  I also tried and liked the Pappardelle de Costilla.

Good drinks, great food, and excellent service – that is a solid combination for any outing.  I will definitely be coming back sometime soon!

  2. The ambiance, decor, and food were really great but the prices, in my opinion, were a little high. Between two of us we split the queso fundido which was, not surprisingly, delicious and the meatballs. also delicious. The portions weren't too large which I was happy about – everything was so delicious I probably would've just kept eating it. I really enjoyed this place and would like to come back and try more from the menu.

  3. Came here for a late brunch on a Saturday morning. The music was a great addition to the meal, but our service left much to be desired. We felt rushed and like our waitress was in a bad mood.

I ordered a Bloody Mary and sadly I didn't get the furnishing usually associated w the cocktail! No celery or olive.

I ordered the lobster and eggs and my friend ordered the Milanese sandwich. The sandwich trumped the lobster dish, in my opinion. The lobster and eggs was just a hard dish to eat, and didn't fill me up. We also ordered the ranchero empanadas to begin with, arguably the best part of the meal.

Giving it more stars solely because it has potential!

  4. This place deserves all five solid stars. Love everything about this place: delicious food, stellar service, and welcoming ambiance. Seriously, one of the most memorable meals we've had in NYC.

WE pretty much ordered what our waiter suggested:

    – HAMACHI TIRADITO: one of the more creative dishes, this appetizer hits a home run for me.

    – EL SALMON BRULEE: Salmon tartar – don't hesitate it ordering this. Just outstanding.

    – LOBSTER AND BAKED EGG: never had such a combination. IT was absolutely to die for. I almost had to lick the plate. I don't know if it was the iron skillet, or the toasted bread, the presentation as well as the taste were just incredible. Out of the world incredible!

    – BARBACOA DE PACU PACU (Brazilian fish ribs): the waiter suggested we should have to eat it with the slice of orange that came with it. There's a reason why. The fish melts in your mouth while the citrus gives it a kick, another phenomenal dish.

    – MOQUECA MIXTA BRAZILIAN STYLE STEW (seafood with green coconut rice): the stew was rich in flavor, seafood tasted as it should be, but the coconut rice, man that was a winner! It was one good bowl of greatness.

    – LAMB CHOPS: we didn't have enough to eat, so so w ordered this last minute. Again, it didn't disappoint.

I love the food, every single dish. Nothing much to complain. We were all extremely pleased with the overall dining experience. Highly recommend it.

  5. I'm wavering between a 3 and a 4, but taking into account the portions at the soul-shriveling prices, La Pulperia is at a solid 3. I do give it points for taking reservations on both OpenTable and Yelp, and for running a very popping business behind the usual business-killing scaffolding that comes along with the Second Avenue subway construction.

2 cocktails, 1 appetizer, and 1 entree (granted it was the $33 seafood stew, the most expensive entree listed on the menu) added up to about $90, including tax and tip. Yikes. As we were ordering, the waitress gently suggested that one more appetizer might do the trick, but it ended up being the perfect amount of food (leaving plenty of room for ice cream later – I won't guiltily admit to devouring half a pint of ice cream right after, because I don't regret that life decision at all).

Tiny cup of guac and a sprinkling of cotijia cheese ($12). I did like how the perfectly ripe avocado came in these almost pudding-smooth chunks. Good enough to devour on its own but I'm not the type of person to turn down corn chips.

Brazilian style seafood stew. Best part was the green coconut rice. The menu said it came with scallops and white fish but unless my boyfriend stole a few chunks while I wasn't looking, I really can't remember eating a scallop or some white fish. This dish was … not worth $33. I was expecting a lot more seafood and a whole freaking pan of food, not a medium-sized plate of a handful of mussels, shrimp, and clams. I counted three whole pieces of chorizo. Heck, I think I could have made three meals of seafood paella for $33.

Well, at the very least, this forced me not to stuff myself and spend the rest of the night in gastrointestinal agony.

The service, however, was friendly enough, and I couldn't help smiling at how the bartender shook hands with or warmly said bye to everyone who left.

  6. Food: came for lunch, recommend the seashore empanada.. Decent selection of salads and sandwiches..'drinks were the best part, loved their michelada

Service: sat at the bar.. Bartender was helpful with the menu.. Nothing extraordinary though

Ambience: I like the decor in the Hell's Kitchen location better but still was very clean and welcoming

  7. I came here for a Saturday girls night dinner.  I was surprised that at 8pm it was still pretty empty inside, it only started filling up around 9pm or so. It was raining so when we arrived the host gave us a plastic bag for our umbrellas and allowed us to stash them with him. Now that's good customer service!

We shared all the dishes we ordered: guacamole (obviously), hanger steak, and pulpo (octopus). All were good, nothing spectacular but great quality, fresh, and tasty. The cazuelitas that came with the steak and octopus were good additions as well. We had some drinks, I'm a fan of anything tequila-based so I had a margarita (which was super strong!), and their signature drink, the Pulperia UES, which was also great.

The best part…when we were on our way out we went to pick up our umbrellas from the host who jokingly said he'd buy us a round of drinks if he could keep our umbrellas. Smart mouth me replied with "can we take our umbrellas and you still buy us a round?" HE SAID YES. Free drinks! He even asked what liquor each of us liked so we could get a drink to match our taste buds. Awesome!!

  8. Beautiful ambience, delicious food && wonderful service!

The oysters (both East and West coast) were incredibly fresh and juicy. But my favorite appetizer was the Salmon Brulee. Until I came here, I never realized salmon + cream cheese could be turned into a classy, yummy appetizer; it was honestly the best salmon I have ever had so far.

For my entree, I had the hanger steak while my boyfriend had the Brazilian style seafood stew. My steak was delicious and not at all tough, and the sides that came with it were cooked to perfection- though I will say I more enjoyed stealing my boyfriend's stew. The stew was slightly spicy, which I loved, and was filled generously with lots of seafood.

Would return to try the other creative menu items!
