  1. Went for Lunch

Food – 5/5. There is olive oil on the tables but when they brought out the bread I was pleasantly surprised to see that they give you a sun-dried tomato pesto. The pesto spreads well onto the bread and the zingy flavors of the sun-dried tomato make it delicious. The Fettuccine Ortolane has a really good mixture of ingredients. The prosciutto adds a salty bite, the peas add sweetness and the mushrooms (oyster and shiitake) add great texture. The pasta is cooked well and has a nice bite.

Service – 4/5. The restaurant wasn't busy but the server was still professional. They offered bread and I'm glad they did since I got to taste the delicious pesto.

Price – 4/5. They don't have particular specials or combos but the prices are pretty low. One thing I would like to mention is that the prices on their website are different compared to the restaurant's menu with the restaurant menu prices being lower. For example, the Fettuccine Ortolane I had is priced at $15 on their website but the restaurant menu priced it at $13.50. A good place to dine if you're in mood for some Italian.

    Parking – Limited Street (Free/Metered)

  2. La Vecchia Napoli hasn't changed much over the years.  Still the same quirky service, mostly the same wait/kitchen crew and more family learning to toss pasta.  The only obvious difference we noticed last night was the geographic origin of most of the diners when we walked in.

"Konichiwa" would have been a more appropriate salutation than "Ciao", but I certainly didn't mind as I love the Japanese.

Tina says a wine bar is coming next month and she will also begin to offer cooking classes in her kitchen.

We ordered the usual and it was still yummy after all these years.  I'm still unable to duplicate her Penne alla Vodka and I've never tried with the Chicken Valdostana which just keeps me coming back time and time again.  I agree that it can be difficult to figure out which door gets you in or even if the joint is open but just be patient.  Life is good and sometimes, perfection isn't so obvious or perfect.

    Ciao!!

  3. I'm really surprised by the low reviews this place has gotten.  My family and I have been coming here for over 10 years, and we love it.  Their prices have risen over the years (as can be expected) but the food is really good and a pretty good deal, if you consider what you'd pay for the same meal in Manhattan.  The service can be on the slower side, but we've never minded — it feels like a cozy laidback European restaurant, with everything made to order.  They have this great red pepper stuffed with cheese and proscuitto that I love.  Their pastas are also always delicious.  Good sized portions without sacrificing quality.  I also just like the ambiance.

  4. This is a really lovely date place, particularly if you enjoy a good glass of wine and are in no rush.

The food overall was just okay. We loved the mini artichokes sauteed simply in olive oil, but the app was better than the entrees. We both ordered pastas – one a special and one from the menu. The pasta did not taste as if it were homemade, but it was cooked nicely. Nothing special. The ragu on the bf's dish was decent if a bit lackluster. The seafood on mine – shrimp and scallops – was very well done. However, everything really needed seasoning, and we should have been offered fresh black pepper and parmesan with our dishes.

Service was very nice but spotty. We had long wait times and had to flag down waiters for drink refills on more than one occasion.

The restaurant was beautiful and prices were decent. They have valet, but you can park about a block away for free (if you're cheap with stuff like that like we are).

  5. I've been to La Vacchia Napolia 2 times now, and both times I will say the food was very enjoyable for both myself and my husband.  That being said, I am only giving 3 stars in this case because of the service.  Keep in mind, both times I was here it was on a holiday, so I can understand a delay in seating and service, but what we experienced was truly disappointing.  Both times reservations were made and we showed up early for seating, but reservations don't really matter in this restaurant because seating is treated as first come first served.  Both times, it took about an hour to get us seated, which I think is a bit ridiculous since 1) we had reservations and 2) the reservations were for later in the evening, not during normal dining hours.
After we finally were seated, it took about 20 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order, and 10 minutes later we finally got some bread (we were ravenous at that point).  The only saving grace for this restaurant is the food (which is good, not great), but honestly it's not worth that long of a wait.
Other than the above, atmosphere is so-so, could use an update as it's a little dated. Don't think I'll be going back because of the service though, which is a shame.
