  1. Another great taco spot in Washington Heights, though in the future I'll just get take out because the service wasn't great. I had a chicken, pork and goat taco (3 for $9) and the pork was absolutely delicious, though the others were great too. My friend had a burrito but asked for no tomatoes and they put them all the way through so they were hard to pick out. I did enjoy my meal but she wasn't happy.

  2. So we got 3 tacos here for $9 which I thought was fairly reasonable! The sauces they give you at the beginning were quite flavorful so get excited for those. I love when chips and dip come out on the table, it's like they know you are starving.

    What you should definitely get:
    – the chorizo taco was killer
    – the babacoa taco was also quite moist and flavorful

    What you should skip:
    – The tamales were not great. They didn't taste fresh. They are cheap, so if you are hungry and need a filler, then go for it. But I've definitely had more flavorful.
    – The spicy pork taco. I had high expectations for this one because I LOVE spice ! But it was so good.

  3. I have somehow done something right to be rewarded by the Mexican restaurant gods! During my month long stay in Washington Heights, I have tried many ethnic restaurants. This really has been a huge part of my culinary education while I attend the French Culinary Institute.

Nobody speaks English. Not a problem, they communicate with the menu AND the staff is friendly, sweet, and nice. I even had to change my order because I realized I didn't understand her completely. Not a problem, minutes later, my corrected order arrived. Which made me believe they were probably done with the first one when I changed it. I got no lip, service with a smile, and she was truly concerned that I enjoyed what I got.

As the typical Mexican place, they serve chips. There are two sauces, a green very flavorful sauce, and a spicier red sauce. Both are wonderful. They are purees, so you will have to order the pico de gallo as an appetizer. I did not order the pico, but it looked really good. It all would have been too much food for me (really…and I'm a fatass!) so I'd order it with my meal if I am there with a partner in crime or if I'm really jonesing for pico de gallo. Oh crap! Now that I'm talking about it, I'm jonesing for pico. Darn!

Alright, get a load of this. I got a huge platter of Tinga Tostadas (three on the plate, heaping with deliciousness). Crunchy open faced tacos with all the trimmings and shredded chicken and chipotle sauce. It was $8. I treated myself to dessert with a mango milkshake. I left fatter than when I arrived, so I forced myself to waddle 25 blocks to my apartment.

My whole bill with tip, tax, dessert, etc was $15 even! In a very clean, sit down restaurant. With friendly service. And good food. I love this shit!

  4. Decent tacos if you are looking for a quick bite and have no other option. I've definitely had better Mexican and would not come back here fire the food.

    Get
-chorizo : bits of crispy ground chorizo with a hint of spice
-salted beef: strips of beef are cooked well and packed the most flavor of all the other meats

    Skip
-DO NOT get the tamale ($2). It is very dry and stuffed with flavorless chicken.
-El pastor taco wasn't very tender but I appreciated the chunks of pineapple
-Barbacoa: essentially shredded goat meat. If you like the distinct taste of goat this maybe a good choice. It was tender but tastes gamey. I had a chunk of fat and a piece of a bone in my taco (authentic?) that I didn't appreciate.

They only have a few tables but they are well spaced out which I appreciate. They have a good variety of juices, tacos, burritos, plates. All typical Mexican food you would expect to find tin the area. The servers were friendly and attentive.

  5. I've worked in the area for a few years and finally checked this place out for lunch! Food was amazing. My friend who has been to Mexico said that it's the closest to authentic Mexican food she has ever had outside of Mexico! We went to lunch at noon and the place was full with employees from Columbia. Service was great. Our food came out in a timely fashion. Their menu is extensive which is awesome. There is something for everyone.

I ordered a grilled chicken dish – it was so delicious! The portions are big and filling. I couldn't even finish my food. Prices are very reasonable and quality of food is great. I will definitely be visiting/ordering food from them again.

The place itself is nothing to write home to mom about but it was clean and had enough space if you wanted to go as a group as well. Def a must check out!! Great place!

  6. Location: In WaHi, mexican food or latino food becomes the only source to feed your hunger. Las Palmas was on my bookmark til this Monday, I got no place to have a quick bite and Las Palmas saved my ass. The inside decoration is very latino american, (sorry I am not sure which countries it was representing tho) They have plenty seats but I ordered to go. They have menus and delivery as well.

Food: I had burrito, spicy pork. I was a little bit disappointed. Most are rice, and fewer beans, but with a relative good portion of spicy porks. Hmm, it was disappointed but I wish there could be more vegges inside or beans. But overall, it was delicious.

Price: a quick delicious lunch for 8 dollars is never a bad deal.

    Overall: Average, everything average.

  7. We checked out one of the popular Mexican restaurant in Washington Heights, Las Palmas. The interesting story behind them is that they used to be a bodega with a small kitchen until a few years ago. When people kept coming back for food, instead of their merchandise, they decided to go full-on restaurant. Smart move. Now they are one of the very popular Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood.

Their complimentary chips and salsa were different from what I usually see at other Mexican restaurants. The "salsa" was more like a sauce, since it did not contain any solid thing like diced tomato, and were really spicy!!! You would want to have a glass of water in your hand before you dig in. The chips are definitely home made, felt a bit thicker and harder than some other chips I have tried at other places. It was still pretty good.

We ordered their tacos, which are $9 for three, and you can mix and match what kind of tacos you want. Which is really great, because you can try three different flavors, instead of getting three of the same kind. I ordered Bistetc, Carne Enchilada, and Chorizo tacos. When they came out, it was nice portion and were all pretty good.

Thinking that we will need more than just three tacos each, we also had ordered Camarones a la Mexicana at the beginning. Now that we know how satisfying these tacos are, we probably will not do that in the future. This was really huge portion, a lot more than we expected. It was really tasty though!

Everything was fresh, tasty, and the staff were very nice. They spoke a little English, but they communicate with you better if you speak to them in Spanish. The service was not fast, but we were not in a hurry so that was not any issue to us. Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

  8. Service: 1/5 Poor
    Food: 2/5 Poor
    Cook Time: 1/5 Poor
    Space: 3 Average Small
    Decor: 3 Average
    Bathroom: 3 Average

First of all, food took forever to come! We placed the order over 40 minutes ago and we just didn't understand why it was so slow to serve. The table next to us took at least 50 minutes which is even more bizarre. Secondly, every dish felt like it was missing something or having too much of something. For example, fajita without tomato or cheese or sauce, pork chop being ridiculously salty, and shrimp with just shrimp and tomato puree and water because the few shrimps were just swimming in tomato water without any sort of other components, literally!

The worst of all, the Mole. The Mole sauce is key to the dish and yet it reeked of burnt smell and tasted, like you can imagine, burnt stuff that was bitter and gross and not edible, but yet they served it to us. So we kindly told the server that it was bad and we didn't want it because it was burnt! And then? The server came back after what took like 20 minutes and told us that it was how it was supposed to taste. Yeah? Then why didn't she take a bite of it?? We complaint a few more times and she then acted like she couldn't understand us and ignored our table entirely. The dish was left untouched. full. sitting in the middle of the table amongst other empty plates. We refused to eat it and they refused to refund us the garbage. WTF. Fine – we still paid for it regardless and even tipped them but that Mole was not edible it was bad and we will not return ever because of the horrible service, wait time, and food that is not food. Bye and see you never.
