  1. This place feels like a true Indian "dhaba" (much more so than the so named restaurant down the street).

They have a ready made set of a few dishes (usually a couple of veggies, a couple of meat, a couple of fish, and a couple of biryani rice dishes).

While thats not always the most appetizing, the samples I have tried from Laziz have been relatively fresh, really tasty and very reasonably priced. I usually order a biryani and get some veggies on the side (they fluctuate between charging and not charging me for the latter).

Its not the nicest atmosphere to sit down to eat in, but as a take out place this is the best bang for your buck youre going to find in Murray hill. Order right and you'll have yourself a meal for two less than $15. Without compromising on flavor.

  2. I was walking home from work and noticed this place, for the first time, several months ago. Usually, before I eat anywhere new, I check yelp. This time I did not, and so I missed reading about Sujash's unfortunate experience at Laziz. Had I read her review, I never would have walked in the door (the power of yelp!)…but like I said, the battery on my phone was low and so I did not check.

The place opened not too long ago and looked clean/new.  When I arrived there were no other customers eating there. They have a hot bar with glass partition displaying all the food. A young woman served the prepared dishes to me…think Pakistani Tea House style. I was starved, and so ate it there, but told them to put it in a to go container (this way if it was disgusting, I could just make a run for it, and dispose of the food elsewhere). This was not the case! I actually finished everything on my plate.

I have to say, the food was GOOD!!  For what this place is, I think it is good/decent cheap Indian food.  And, needless to say, I did not get sick after.

  3. I'm really disappointed. I stopped in to order vindaloo and they gave me curry. I may not be Indian but I know my sauces.
Secondly, there was an inch of oil resting on top of the dsih after opening the container. I am not exaggerating. I soaked up as much as I could with 2 sheets of Bounty paper towels and after much of it was removed, I was missing half my dish.

However, the curry, was in fact delicious, even though it was not what I had ordered.
